Winter Slack

Feb 09, 2019

I haven't posted much in the past month as not much has been going on. I am still stuck in the same weight yoyo. It jumps from 187ish to 189ish. I did go to my year appointment finally and much to my surprise found out i did meet my Dr's goal. I thought his goal for me was 185lbs but his goal was to get my BMI to below 28. My goal is still at least 175 though lol.

Went back to the gym yesterday. While my stats weren't that huge it felt good to work out again. Been slacking off over the winter. I ran on the tredmil for near 2 miles, rowed for 2 miles, did 300 steps on stair climber, than cycled for 5 miles. It felt so good to feel the burn of calories coming off as well as toning up the muscles for the summer excursions. Still trying to figure out a good exercise to tone up the excess skin.

Ringing in the New Year with a New Me

Jan 01, 2019

The Holidays were a bit surprising with me. We had all our normal foods (just made healthier in some cases) and even though it was so much rich food and more carbs in some cases than what we have been eatting; I did not gain any weight. On the contrary I continued to lose weight.

New Years eve came and I steped on the scale. The scale read 185.6. I was so happy. I'm going to ring in the new year at my goal weight. Well my doctors goal weight. I ate breakfast, 1 hard boiled egg... Ok it was a deviled egg lol. And than took a shower. I wantted to get a picture of my goal weight so steped on the scale again. Much to my dismay I put on an extra pound. rofl. All day I kept weighing myself hoping to lose that extra pound once I dried off by it didnt work lol.

Thats Ok. I am still the lowest weight I have been in over 25years. And I know I will reach my goal before I meet with my surgeion for my overdue year appointment.

I volunteer with our fire department. Every new years our town does a block party so we keep crowd control. This is a picture of me with our new years lion from last year and this year. Last year my coat couldnt even zip up. This year I had to get a whole new outfit and it was still big lol.

1yr. Surgiversary

Dec 20, 2018

A year ago today I went to the hospital to have my weight loss surgery. While I didn't reach my personal goal, it is still a major improvement. I made the decision to improve my health. I have had many milestones. Some I have never even imagined. Some small and large milestones and victories. It was, and still is one of the BEST decisions I have ever made. My goal was to shoot for 185 lbs by my 1 year Surgery date. I have reached 187 lbs. It is only two pounds away, but I know I can still go this. Some of my additional milestones are..

1. I've gone from a size tight 28 to a 14.
2. I've started running again, doing 5 k runs and won 3rd in one of the races.
3. I've started kayaking with my Husband. My Kayaking adventures have brought me to see Horses on Assategue, Catch and eat the freshest crabs I have ever had, and something I have never imagine happening, a school of dolphins swimming next to my kayak.
4. My adventures have taken me on many trails, waterways, islands in the Susquehanna river, waterfalls in the mountains, and even camping on the Appalachian trail.

These are things that I could not have done a year ago at my heaviest weight. I have met some amazing friends that have gone through, and supported me in my journey.

I look forward to doing these things again and having many more adventures as my journey continues.

Hiking and Camping in the Freezing Cold

Dec 09, 2018

My husband and I decided that instead of sitting in our nice warm home this weekend, we were going to hike on the appalachian trail and camp overnight. This is something that before loseing weight we would not have been able to go very far carring food, and gear plus extra weight for both of us.

We hiked 3.1 miles out, tried to keep a campfire going but it was a bit windy so the fire kept going out. So we decided to curl up in the tent and try and keep warm. One thing the weight was good for was keeping us warm lol but we could never have made it that far with 140+ lbs on each of us.

We struggled all night to keep warm. Even with our dogs with us. We kept waking up every couple of hours because we were cold. When we woke up we realized our water packs were half froze. We had a hot breakfast and quickly packed so we could start hiking again to warm up.

By the time we were halfway back we started warming up. Going back we didnt stop for more than 5 min because we would start getting cold again. The dogs were even cold with their sweater's and coats. When we finally made it back to the car we were exhausted but it felt so good. We hiked a total of 6 miles in less than one day.

BTW this coat is realy big but it was the only one I had that was warm enough for this trip. It is a 3X and I am now wearing a 1X to a L. and this is trooper. He is completely blind. So we had to go slow because of him, especially when he decided that he had walked long enough and we still had a mile left to go.

Good and Bad News

Nov 27, 2018

Well Thanksgiving has past with some good news and bad. The good news is I have not gained any weight after all that delicious food lol. I managed to still eat sensibly while still enjoying everything. I went to my brother and sister in laws and i think everyone was so shocked at how much weight we have lost. Next Day I went to hubby's mom's and that brought the bad news...

I woke up to pain in my side. I said It must be gas from the food yesturday. So i ignored it and we started the 5hr drive. The whole way I was in pain. Still being stubrin I said it was gas. Even stoped at a walmart to "walk it out" When that didnt work i bought some gas X and we continued on. We got to our destination and started prepareing dinner. After a couple hours and still in pain hubby decided to call our dr. and she said I needed to go to the hospital. After doing a CT scan I found out I need to have my gallbladder removed. I have sludge and small stones.

After some mild pain med and rest I was feeling much better so we decided to try and hold off until January when my insurance kicks back in or if im lucky enough the summer so I wont have to take any time off work.

More good news, I did a side by side from this year and last year and am amazed at the transformation. I mean I know I have lost weight, I see it in the numbers. But I still find it difficult to see that much of a difference until I see side by sides. I am now wearing clothes that are to small for my mother in law. I never imagined that would ever happen.

Halloween Treat

Nov 01, 2018

My husband and I had a great time this Halloween. We did wear the same costumes as 2 years ago. I wanted a side by side picture this year so I can compare. Look at the difference of 2 years and a combine weight loss of 272 lbs between us both. My boss took a picture of me and I thought, man I don't look like I lost much in that costume, But after seeing it side by side I now see it. This is the same exact costumes. Same size. Only 2016 and last year it barely fit us. And this year it fit good even with clothes under them.

Wow what a difference.

Sentimental Journey

Oct 27, 2018

I kept this sweater for many many years, even though it hasnt fit me since a year after I got it. I finally put it on after all these years and it fits.

Flash back to about the year 2000 I went to my grandmothers for Christmas and she gave me a hand made sweater. It fit but was a little tight. But I loved it because my grandmother made it. When It stoped fitting (about a year later) I saved it because she made it and I couldnt bring myself to get rid of it. In 2004 my grandmother passed away and I continued to save the sweater even though I thought I would never fit in it again. Today I tried it on and It fits. It is even a little big. I am so happy I can wear this again and its in great shape after being stored for so long.

101 NSV's

Oct 17, 2018

I am a member of a few different bariatric pages. And while many times those pages can be counterintuitive there was one post last week that not only did I think was a great idea but also participated in. We tried to come up with 101 NSV's. This post did not actually do that since many of the posts were listed multiple times. But it gave me an idea for a post for myself as well as others. I am going to try and make 101 different NSV's. This will be a post in progress until I reach my goal. Some of these are my own NSV's and some are others I thought would be good ones to add. I also tried to come up with some unique ones as well. NSV and Bragging lol

Sep 30, 2018

After loseing 130+ lbs we decided to start running. After running a few times on the local trails here we decided to sign up for a 5k. I thought we would be at the end but at least we would make it to the end. Instead we were not only at the beginning but I actually won, 3rd. place in my gender/age range.

5k

Sep 28, 2018

I have started adding exercise to my regimin. I started with swimming and walking on the tread mill. But some of my old habits started calling me. (not a bad thing lol) I kept getting the urge to run. Last time i inquired about running it was before my surgery and my physical therepist said no cause of my plantar fasciitis. This time i decided to do it anyway, since my feet haven't hurt since my surgery. Unfortunatly after my first day running my feet started hurting again. So hubby said lets buy good running shoes. $130 later I walked (ran) away with a good set of running shoes to help with my personal foot needs. I started running twice a week. Hubby decided to join me. The first day he didnt make it but everytime after that he did. So we decided to sign up for our first 5k. Which happens tomorrow. We dont plan on running for speed. Were no where near ready for that yet. Were just running and walking the whole 5k. Im so excited. Cant wait till morning.
