I have been so busying, I never finished posting the important info! I had an open RNY on 7/23/02. Surgery was supposed to be a lap procedure, but it didn't turn out that way. Now, after 3 months, the last of my incisions has closed. I had 2 infections postop. Just 7 days after surgery, I had about a one inch incision opened up at the top of my incision due to infection. That took about 9 weeks to fully heal with cleaning and packing twice a day. Then 3 weeks postop, another one inch section at the bottom of my incision had to be opened, again due to infection. My advice to new postops, get your protein in to possibly avoid complications like I had. My surgeon, Dr. Schroder of Richmond, Va was great in my aftercare. Especially since I live a 4 hour drive from him. He always saw me promptly and was supportive and encouraging.
