Hi, Charlotte! Congratulations on getting your date! The reason it takes so long for pre-op testing is that they will probably do a gall-bladder ultrasound if you still have your gall-bladder, they will do a chest x-ray and upper gi series, they will draw blood, do a urine sample, and do your pulmonary function tests and EKG. At least that's what I had done! Regarding not gaining any weight, I really don't know what to tell you, Hon. I was lucky and only had to wait a couple months between the time they gave me my date and surgery. I had maintained my weight at 273 for about a year and a half, so I just went about my normal routine. I know it's not much consolation, but at least they didn't tell you that you have to LOSE any weight before surgery. I feel so sorry for those people; if they could lose before surgery, they probably wouldn't need it! Good luck, Sweetie! Let me know if I can help in any way!

Hi Charlotte; Seems to me someone is giving you bad info on the privacy laws. According to the new HIPAA law that went into effect April 14, 2003 you have a right to any and all information relating to you. That means at the doctor's office and at the insurance company. They can send you a release of information form via fax and you can sign it and fax it back to them. Then they should send what ever you want to whomever you want them to send it to you. They may charge a fee to do it, but they have to do it - and with in a reasonable time frame. Good luck, Cathy
