Hi Lori -- I was amazed to read your profile, because we had the same doctor, same surgery, same date, and I also weighed 420 pounds! I would like to swap war stories with you. I currently weigh about 192 -- I go up a pound or two, then go down. I still only eat a fourth of what other people eat, but I sure can eat sweets if I let myself! I find myself cooking things that are forbidden, take a few bites, then feed it to my husband. But I am trying to change that habit. I still get sick if I eat too much, I have taken great pains not to stretch my stomach. I don't drink carbonated drinks or eat chocolate, and I am a person with no discipline, so it's a daily struggle. I drink a lot of Starbuck's drinks, however, and I know they have calories, but what else is there? I am going to pick up some fish oil capsules, supposed to help with fat intake and somehow related to sweet cravings. Couldn't take the sublingual B-12 tabs, it made my joints hurt. I try to exercise (swimming) and that really helps. I live just outside of Stockton, so you are in my area, actually. We even were in the same hospital (UC Davis) My surgery was 5-21-01, I wonder if we crossed paths somewhere? My goal was always just to get under 200 lbs. and buy clothes off the rack, so I feel good about that. I could go on all day about the changes in my life since the surgery. I had tummy tuck Sept. 2002 and thigh lift June, '04. I had some pretty horrible complications but I'm ok now. The bypass surgery went really well, but the year after the surgery was torture. Hair fell out, starvation -- it was awful But I would do it again in a minute. My life is worth living and I am not ashamed to walk into public places anymore. Well keep up the good work. Nobody that hasn't been through this journey could possibly know what we have been through. But we know ! E mail me anytime with your thoughts or progress. Would love to hear from you. Lori, best wishes for your upcoming surgery. I had mine six months ago, and I have never had a single regret. Fortunately, the nervousness is over with when you wake up in the recovery room to your new life.
