I spoke to Karen on the phone yesterday afternoon. She is doing well...resting much better now that she is home. She doesn't have much of an appetite at all....which is very normal. All she really wants is her grape juice. She is on clear liquids right now, so that means she can have stuff like clear juices, sugar-free Jell-O, crystal light, chicken or beef broth, and water. Oh, she can have sugar-free Popsicles or frozen fruit bars too. But, right after surgery, it's very common NOT to want anything. I remember having to force myself to eat. LOL Karen is taking her pain medicine like she is supposed to, and walking a bit for exercise. All in all, she's doing good. I can't wait to see her when the pounds start to melt off!!!

Karen- Congratulations on a successful surgery. How exciting for you to finally be able to start this new chapter in your life. I'm planning to be at BTC in Ypsilanti in August for a lap RNY. I hope that I will have as much success and support as you have. My very best wishes to you and your family! Claire in Troy

I saw Karen today. She is doing well, is walking around, and had many family visitors today. Her fever is gone now. She has graduated to clear liquids!!! When we were leaving, she was having some orange jello, chicken broth, and a fruit flavored Crystal Light. Karens say hi to all, and sends her thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. As soon as she is able, she will come online and let everyone know how she is doing.

Hi, this is Cathy Hammer. I am Karen's sister-in-law (angel too). Karen had her surgery on Thursday, April 5, 2001. Her sugery took a little longer than expected because the doctor also fixed an umbilical hernia. I haven't seen her yet, but I have been getting updates from her daughters. She still has alot of pain, but getting out of bed is getting easier each time she does it. She was running a 100 degree fever, but they weren't sure why. They put her on extra breathing treatments to help prevent pneumonia. Not sure when she will be home yet, but she's hoping for Sunday or Monday. I'm going to visit her this afternoon, and I will give an update when I get home.

Karen, best wishes for your upcoming surgery. I had mine four months ago, and I have never had a single regret. Fortunately, the nervousness is over with when you wake up in the recovery room to your new life.
