Angela, I had an open Duodenal Switch with Tugal ligation and appendectomy. I asked my Surgeon- he said no problem!

Okay, when it rains, it pours. I now have 3 angels: Beth, my very best friend for the past 3 years, and Jo & Kristie, my new friends that I have made through AMOS and I appreciate you all so much! Thanks again...!

YIPPEE!! I now have an angel! (and all of you know how much my life has needed one lately) Thank you so much Kristie for agreeing to take on this responsibility--it means the world to me! I can't wait to meet you in person!

Dear Angela, I know it looks really bleak right now, but just know that it will get better. There was a time when I, too, seemed to hit bottom and was so totally depressed that it felt like I was encased in my own shroud of darkness. Eventually, however, things changed. That is the law of life. NOTHING stays the same forever. Just think of this period of time as being a lesson, and I promise it will pass. It will get better. Hang in there. LInda

Hi Angela! We have our consults on the same day! As for your question about open vs lap, one of my brothers had an open, and the other a lap a month later. There isn't any difference as far as weight loss goes...the biggest difference is the scar of course, and my first brother had a bit more pain (not even close to intolerable) because they're cutting thru your abs, and the second brother was virtually pain-free; he described it more as "discomfort". Some Drs will only do a lap on women w/in a certain BMI (for example under 50) while others are getting good at it for everyone. It really depends on your surgeons comfort level. If you're happy with your surgeon, and not worried about the scar, I would go for the open and not worry about looking for another Dr! Good luck to you! IT'S A GOOD LIFE! Cyndi Carfrey

hi Angela, you'll still have to send a photo into the photo area at the top of the message board area, photo's on the message board do not just automatically happen. If you notice they are all the same size, we do that to keep it neat and looking organized here on the site. Peace, prayers and hugs
