Things are getting better now. Before the surgery I thought that I would be fine getting in my protein, I had a plan, sampled many products and was fully prepared. The part I did not realize was that I would not feel the desire to eat and would have to put myself on a schedule. I am also getting a little tired of the same old stuff so I am now trying to get creative with my protein. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. My newest trick is to make protein shake in a big bowl, and then mix it with some sugar-free pudding then separate into servings. When I talked to the dietician she of course had a better idea. She suggested that I increase the scoops of protein and make smaller portions that will have even more protein than the larger portions about 20g each. It was a great idea and I will be trying that after I use up the four portions I made. Also, the one thing that I just never really heard reading the posts online and in chat groups is the incredible pain. Of course it is surgery and you have some pain but I had a c-section and two children without medication and thought I had a really high tolerance for pain. I felt like a big baby when I got home. It felt like I was attacked by a group of people and they kicked me all over my upper body. I normally don't take pain medication but I did take the medication I was sent home with faithfully for a little over a week. I was not as active as I should have been and the bag in my left lung partially collapsed a few days after I got home. Very painfull and very scary. I spent that entire day in the ER because they had to run tests to make sure it was not a blood clot or anything else. I have heard people talk about walking and moving around right after surgery, I wish I would have tried harder. Now I am feeling better. My incisions healed up really well. I do have some fluid build up behind one of my incisions but the Dr. said that it should re-absorb into my body soon and then that pain will be gone, it just feels strange like a lump under your incision. I went swimming last night and it felt really good. I did not realize how much exercise you can get done in the pool. I could definitely feel it and knew when it was time to take a break. It is nice because the water is supportive also and you can work on areas of your body that can tolerate it. I just look forward to six months from now, when I hopefully will have lost enough weight that I can be more active out of the pool and feel better. I just can't wait until I feel healthy and some of the health problems start to decrease. Although, I must say that it was nice to be able to put my jewelry back on again. I wasn't able to wear my rings for a while and now they fit again :) One small milestone for me! Annette

Good luck with a speedy recovery. Don't forget to walk walk walk, or scoot scoot scoot. I was told to walk at least a half hour a day after I returned home. I will be 5 weeks post op on Thursday and I feel wonderful! Sometimes I question whether the surgeon actually did anything. Anyhow, the key to it is walking or scooting, the more you do the better you feel and the faster you heal.Good Luck to you in your journey! Open Rny/6/20/02

I am home from the hospital. The one thing that I was not prepared for was the incredible pain. This is my first day home and I feel like a need a walker to get to the bathroom. I am able to get in my liquids fine but cannot walk around or move without pain. Hopefully it will get better soon.
