Just had weight loss surgery

Nov 23, 2008

Well I just had weight loss surgery three days ago and I am feeling great.  I have been off of pain medicine since the day after surgery and haven't felt the need to take any.  The day of my surgery I was really nervous because this is a life changing event but after I seen my doctor he made me feel great.  I got to the hospital about 9 am, and I didn't get call back until 940am.  The lady told me that if I was feeling rushed it is because I am being rushed.  Once I got to the second room where they did my IV and asked me a bunch of questions it was about 10:00am.  They were unable to get an IV in and they even tried the areas that are usually really easy for others to get a line through.  So as they were working to get that IV in, the anesthesialogist came in and asked a bunch of question and both him and his assistant was trying to get that IV in and were unable to do it.  So my doctor came in to see me and he asked me how was I doing and I told him I was really nervous and he said that was normal and I asked him how he was doing and he said he was a little hungry.  Then I asked him was he nervous and he laughed and said no, because he is used to doing this surgery for people.  So since he was hungry I told him to go and take his time and each a sandwich or something because I don't want him to be rushing to finish me up to go and eat, but I told him not to eat too much because I don't want him to get too full and get tired.  So he laughed and decided to go eat a sand-which.  So since they were still unable to get the IV in, they had to do a central line through my neck and that was not cool.  I was scared to move my neck, although they told me that I could.  Well since they were behind because of the IV issue once they got that central line in, they rolled me into the surgical room that looks like the room from house.  They had me to move over onto the next bed and I was so cold, and I made sure everyone was okay before they knocked me out.  They put this masked on and told me to take some deep breaths then I was knocked out.  I woke up in recovery room but I kept falling back to sleep.  I remember me telling the lady I had to pee and she said to just go and everything is okay.  After I really woke up they finally pt me in a room and that was about 3am.  Around 5am I asked for my family but they were sleep and the nurse said that they have been coming in and out to see me but I don't remember acorse.  The nurse was able to take that line out of my neck and put it in my arm so I c an sleep better but i was really soar.  The staff at Pitt was really nice and everytime I buzz they came in to assist me and really made me feel like I was important.  I started walking around 10 that morning and every hour I would walk, and breath at least 10 times into the breathing machine.  I was really thirsty but I wasn't able to drink until I past my swallow test and that was about 4pm.  I was so happy to taste that water, it was so refreshing.  I seen my doctor and I was really nausea and sick and he told them to make sure they give me something for that.  Then around 8pm i was in some serious pain but it was due to gas and I was crying and I didn't take no pain medicine because it wouldn't have helped me.  I went to sleep and woke up around 11pm and walked and I told Jesus he needs to help me to release this gas pain I have inside of me.  So I walked again around 1am, then 3am, and then victory came at 5am and I felt so much better.  Saturday morning I took a shower which really made me feel good and when the doctor came to see me I was sitting up and he told me I can go home that day and he would see me the following Monday or Tuesday.  I got released about 2pm and it was oh happy day for me because I was so ready to see my baby.  I do feel  really good, I have been walking every hour and drinking every hour and drinking my protein every two hours and I am feeling great.  I am happy and thank God he has brought me through this far.  I will update my page again once I see my doctor in about a week and I hope everyone will have a great thanksgiving.
