Experimentation...

Dec 16, 2008

So, with the holidays is coming some experimentation.  This is the first time since the surgery that I'm getting adventurous about what I try.  I tried a "real" christmas cookie and no dumping!  I definitely have to keep in mind that there is always the possibility, but it's good to know that I can have a little sweet here and there and still handle it.  Sugar-free is still my BFF though...  no way in hell I'm going back to what I used to eat.

Off to find cookie recipes I can modify...!!

It's been quite a while!!!

Nov 12, 2008

So It's been almost a year since my last post.  OBVIOUSLY a testament to how much more active I am.  I am like the tasmanian devil - all over the place!  My energy is through the roof!  I am feeling so great.  What an awesome thing this surgery has done for me.  I would have never in my wildest dreams thought I could cross my legs, bend down to tie my shoes, or wear a size 10!!!!  I actually shopped in the junior section last week - for the first time EVER!

To those of you who are just going through it, Congratulations.  Having the RNY is the best thing I ever did for my health, my self-esteem, my LIFE!

Keep smiling everyone.  I'll be back soon...  I promise!  :)

So it's the end of week 2 of the Couch-to-5K training program and I'm doing really well.  This past week has been quite difficult, and I've been VERY sore.... but I can't believe I'm actually running!  AND, I can handle it!  It's difficult at the beginning of a new week, when I have to increase the intensity, but I know it's going to be awesome when I get to the 5K.

I NEVER thought I would get to the point where I would be able to run.  Did I mention I  my RNY?!?!?

Wow--it's been soooo long since my last post.  I started the new year at 75lbs down.  I can't believe I'm there!  I'm having a wonderful time going shopping, now I can actually shop at stores that have my size!  I'm moving in to 14/16's now, which I haven't seen since high school!  I still have moments where I think I'm still 284lbs and that I can't do things.  I have little WOW moments every day.  I'm doing well overall!!!

My next goal (which starts tomorrow) is to begin a couch potato-to-5k running program.  I'm excited/nervous to start--I haven't run since high school softball and that was just around the bases!!!  We'll definitely see what happens and keep you posted on the progress!

What a great opportunity I've been given to transform my life.  I'm SO grateful for my RNY!!!

I'm officially 3 months out from surgery and feeling great!  I'm down a total of 33.7 lbs since surgery, down 56.5 total.  I was feeling a little down about my total weight loss until I went to the doctor.  Apparently things are going as expected!  I have to remind myself of the crazy month I had following surgery and how much that set me back.  I'm so happy I made this decision, I feel like I'm really starting to learn how to work this tool!

Hi, all!
I haven't posted in a while, so I thought I would.  I'm six weeks out and I'm starting to feel somewhat normal again.  I'm still a little sore, but overall doing well.  I still have the open wound which is healing really well--it's almost gone!  I posted some updated pics today too.  I don't see much of a change in my body, but I can see it in my face.  And, I'm starting to see the extra skin, especially on my arms (yay to bingo arms!!).

Keep Smiling!!

Hey all- Just an update... I haven't been here in a while. So I've been home for about a week. I ended up having to spend two weeks in the hospital and I got home last Tuesday. I had the lap RNY on 7/31/07 and something went wrong with my intestines--they just stopped. So my old stomach (the "remnant") filled up with bile and other junk and ended up leaking into my abdominal cavity and blood stream. They had to bring me back in to surgery on Saturday 8/4/07 and I spent some time in the ICU. Then, I got discharged last Tuesday and took my first shower on Wednesday (WOW--best thing EVER!!)). Everything was fine until I noticed that my staples were oozing (Oh, did I mention that now I have a MASSIVE zipper down my stomach now???). Went to the ER that night and found out I had a wound infection. I had to go BACK in the next day to have the incision re-opened and drained and now I have an open wound. It has definitely been an experience. I'm tolerating foods really well now and am healing slowly. Today is the first day I've felt well enough to sit at the computer. Now I'm being seen every few days and I have a nurse at home too. I sure hope this is all worth it in the end!!! Thanks to everyone for their support and well wishes--you all have helped me get through this tough time. See you soon!

Bowel prep sucks.  I never thought I'd have such a close relationship to my bathroom...  I know, TMI, but I had to get it off my chest!
