I drop in and out of this place periodically, but it occurred to me today (yes, I am that stupid and ignorant) that as awful as the past year was for me, it could have been even worse for you.

Not hating on the newbies at all, I promise. But v

Nine years ago this week, I had my innards re-arranged and lost 180 pounds.

Nine years later, I am still doing pretty well. Like a lot of people I put on a pound or two while stuck inside this year, but many many walks and hikes with the husba

Eight years ago last week I changed my life.

Still doing pretty good. Weighed 169 yesterday... always aiming for 160-170 these days so that works for me :)

Always low carb, low sugar, hydration, listening to Pouchy when he says "knock

Seven years ago, I had RNY. I went from 340 to (at my lowest) around 150. This morning I was 168 on the scale, which is within the 160-170 range I aim for in this wonderful new menopausal world. This is me, a few months ago biking in the Appalachian

Wow, so amazing! I'm at the start of my journey - surgery on Oct 22; really helps me to see those who have made it through and are enjoying life like I so want to with my boys - planning vacation next summer that includes ziplining and hiking - stuff I made excuses for at my current weight. You look amazing! Sunny

Hiked and biked with husband in Virginia and North Carolina for the past two weeks. Couldn't have dreamed of doing that at 340 pounds...

I am constantly thrilled with what my body lets me do now.

(So a good friend asked me about RNY and I sent her this via email, but afterwards I realized it may be more helpful to others too...) OK, so first things first... everyone's pre surgical experience is pretty much the same. Some docs want fasting

I had a bunch of my stomach and small intestine hacked out of my body six years ago today to do what I couldn't do alone... lose weight and become (relatively) healthy. What I have learned:

  1. It's a tool, not a cure
  2. IBS and lact

I thought I had pretty much cornered the market on high protein, high fat, low-carb recipes. But he is like a reformed whore right now... ready to pressure-cook the world quickly and healthily for me. Any Instant Pot recipes successes for RNY peeps ot

At nearly my six year surgiversary, and blood tests (as well as my utter exhaustion and circles under my eyes) show I am anemic. Ugh. I am trying to talk the doc into more iron supplements instead of infusions... it worked last time, and unlike a lot

Went to Discovery Cove in Orlando over Christmas... husband and I swam with dolphins and such.  I don't point that out because of the dolphins, I point it out because when we went to get fitted for our mandatory swim vest thingies, the guy took one loo

October 24, 2011 I was in RNY surgery.

5 years later, I am so ingrained in this new (now old) way of living, I forgot to post a triumphant message!

I am closer to 160 now than 150... menopause has been a bitch and to add insult to inju

Pardon my poo post, but it's not easy being green...

I tend to toss spinach on just about everything, especially when I eat at the salad bar at work, in an attempt to down more low-carb veggies and iron.  But for the past few months, almost any

I don't think I've had a Twinkie in 10 years.  Even when I was morbidly obese, they just weren't really on my radar.

But my son got a box of them today (red, white and blue no less) for his 18th birthday.  "Ooooh" says I, and I grab one... fig

Celebrated my peritonitis survival with a nice little getaway to New Orleans over Christmas week.  Drank too much but ate well and walked a lot... came back the same size I left, which is always good :)

I mention this to help everyone who has ever posted (or considered posting) a sudden weight-gain freakout post...

I ruptured my appendix Nov. 9.  I came home from the hospital Nov. 15 weighing 21 pounds more than when I arrived.

Long story short, I exploded my appendix Monday.  Did a huge number on it, I'm told.... appendix bits, goo, germs, pus, the whole nine yards.  6 days in the hospital, IV everything, etc etc.  When I do something, I don't do it half way :)
