My Sixteen Month update!

Jul 12, 2008

Hi All,

It has been a while since I posted. So many things in my life have improved because of my lost. No I have not lost 100 pounds, but I will!

It has been sixteen months since my band surgery, and my lost is very slow. This is due to me again not always following the rules. But everyday I am still learning something new about the band, and my experiences are helping me to be a better, healthier person. With my lost, I have:

***Returned back to College (I can now fit behind those small chairs) Yahoo! ***

***Fit in the amusement park rides (I was able to sit side by side with my four-year-old in the rides) This had me in tears! Thank you GOD!

***Sit in One (1) public transportation seat! (I fit in one seat not two!) Glory, Glory,

***Shop at a regular clothing store! (I can now shop at the Gap! or anywhere that carries sizes 16 and 18!) Wow!

***No more back pain, knee pain****

For the first time ever I was able to walk into the Gap and buy a size 18 Capri’s! (The 16’s were too tight on my belly, and I like to be comfortable!)

My life has improved so much!

Do I regret that I decided to go with the lap band? No! Sometimes I do think hey, I should have hit the 100-pound mark. But then I realize, for me slow is always better. And this is my journey, and my journey is different from everybody else’s!

I want to give a special thanks to my baby sister DP who also was banded a day after me. She is now in a size 14 or 12. But her encouragement and support always keeps me lifted. Not to mention, all of the clothes she continues to pass down to me. I am truly blessed!

I still believe

Dec 29, 2007

I had my 8th fill on Thursday, and I am now up to 9cc’s. I only lost 1 pound for a total of 26 pounds lost (252-278). Yes 26 pounds in seven months. I’m still proud of the 26 pound lost because any other of my million diets, I would have gained all of the weight back plus an extra 20 pounds. I started journeying my food intake at www.fitday.com. And I was surprise to see how many calories I was eating a day. The highest was 2000 calories in one day. The lowest was 1898 calories. So as you can see this is why plus not following the band rules, I have gained 8 pounds in three weeks. I'm still working out and still people are asking me if I am losting weight! I can fit into some size 16 (Name brand) clothes. Now that I have identified the problem with the weight gain, its back to the drawing board for me. I will have a follow up visit with my Doctor in two weeks to review by blood work and weight in. Until then its back on track with the gym and my food intake. (FYI, today I weight on my Weight Watcher scale as 246.4 without clothes).

Scale victory

Oct 21, 2007

Today at the gym the balance beam was finally moved to 200. I was so happy to finally see the black beam (I don't know the official name) moved to 200. I have been on the 250 mark for over 10 years, and to finally see some results...Yahoo...to me this is a big deal. It means that after I lose 47 pounds I will be at oneville....ONEVILLE!!!!
This morning my scale said 246.6. The gym scale said 247.2 but hey I'll take it.Looking over my old Curves and Weight Watchers notes three years ago I was 284 pounds. Almost at the 300 pound mark. So to finally see the 200 black beam on the scale is victory to me.

One day at a time,
GOD BLESS!

My 8th fill, and encouraging words from the NUT

Oct 03, 2007

Yesterday, I had my 8th fill. I lost 3 pounds for a total of 25 pounds lost. Needless to say, I knew I gained 3 pounds from my scale, because I have been bloated for several days. But I found the courage to face the scale. Well the nurse told me to keep losting and try to watch my sweet intake, the Dr. also said I was still losing and if I did not have restriction within 1 week to come back for another little fill. The NUT, well he said,
"I have patient who lost 25 pounds in one month." (I'm a Lap band patient, not a Gastro patient!). And then he said you need to go to the support classes. I told him the last two support classes at his hospital was not geared for LB's. And the Dr. who ran the class told me "Why have lap band surgery, and waste your money!" (Yep, I want to go back to those support group) He said "The last group had three LB that attended). Three! The classes are from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on a Tuesday. I have a four year old. I told him I get my support from this websit, other LB patients (my sister, my lab band co-workers, and other lap band patients I met in the Dr's office).
Well, I knew he was not in a good mood when he walked in. He did not say hello or smiled. He said "I must not be following the program because I should have lost more weight". Now I work out four to five times a week. My body is changing, I am starting to see curves. I can do 30 push ups on my knees and 10 on my toes, I lift weights, and take 2 classes per week. After meeting with him I was depressed. For a minute (I got over his comments quickly)
As I was walking back to work, I took an account of my accomplishments. And I am proud of myself, for taking this step.
I watch what I eat. I do not eat fried chicken (KFC is mad at me) or any other type of fried meat, Pork Chops, etc. , cake or candies (Only when I am stress/ and I am working on that part) for dinner. My eating habits have changed drastically. My portion sizes have change. Normally with my life, after four to six months on a diet, I usually give up and regain all the weight plus twice the weight I lost. As you can see, I am not gaining. I am not losing as fast as other lap banders, but everybody is different. Yes, my weight lost is slow, but hey from a size 24 to a size 18 (And some 20) is great. My point is I know my weakness and strenght and I know what I must do to reach my goal. So I could have taken the words from my NUT as hurtful and ate myself silly. But, I know this is my journey to follow and nobody's hurtful words that he probably thought was helpful, will stop me from what I started. But I must thank my NUT,  for those wonderful words of encouragements, and his pointers (eat more filbert, drink more water. 64 oz a day is not enough?). I sure we can talk again at my next fill. Which will always be on a THURSDAY.

Six Months Anniversary

Sep 15, 2007

Well, this is my six-month anniversary…I do not regret having the surgery, but at times I am disappointed that I have not lost more weight. But for me I am still a winner.
Normally after losing 20 pounds I would put it right back on and more. With the band I am still losing. I’m losing slowly due to me not always following the band rules but I take responsibilities for that. Everyday I am learning so much about my band; it’s likes and dislikes.  I do not eat popcorn, bread, rolls, etc. So I’m still learning.
As of today it’s been 26 weeks since my surgery, and I have lost approximately 1 pound per week. At this rate I hoping for a 60 pound lost at my 1-year anniversary. Which is still good for me. The band has also helped me with my passion for the Gym. I workout 4 to 6 times a week. Even if I can not give an hour, I have to give 30 minutes. At times I am the last person in the Gym, closing it down with the front desk staff. I put my baby to bed, kiss hubby bye and I take time for me. I really enjoy working out and lifting weights. I can see my body shape changing and toning.

This morning weigh in without clothes 248.1 (278-249=29 pound lost)

NSV:
If I drop something, I can pick it up…
I can cross my legs in some chairs.
My bras fit better.
I lost some rolls on my back and but area.
My but is tighter (Per hubby).
I can fit into clothes I haven’t worn in years.
I can fit into some 18’s. I have not worn a size 18 in over 10 years!
I can do a push up and 200 sit ups!
My face is getting smaller

I have a Neck!
I have energy to play with my four-year-old.
I can walk up and down three flights of steps without stopping.
Giving away my old size 24’s , 22’s and some 20’s clothes.
Receiving my sister's size 18's..

I will continue on my band journey. It is a lifetime journey for me and I thank GOD for allowing me to have this surgery and to achieve the level of success that is right for me.

I must also thank this board for being a great tool of support for me and allowing me to met some wonderful helpful people that are always willing to answer your questions and help you in anyway necessary. You people are truly a blessing. And I would like to thank my wonderful baby sister D.P. (Lap band surgery a day after me) who donates all of her clothes to me. I am looking forward to her size 16’s.  LOL!!!

GOD Bless.

Horror pain in my stomack last night (TMI)

Jul 29, 2007

I believe it was the 2 cups of popcorn I ate yesterday while on vacation at Ocean City, MD. The pain started after 9:00 PM, it felt like contractions. Yes, contractions! Every five minutes I had the worst sharp pain in my stomach! I could not lay down on my back or side. My poor DH could only look at me, and tried to comfort me. My 4 year old slept while I cried in pain. I also vomited several times,  but I did not have a bowel movement. This was the first time I had experienced something not agreeing with me since my surgery.

What did I learn? NO MORE POPCORN FOR ME!!!!

End of lesson..

GOD BLESS
R,

After 5 fills and little lost, I'm still on the positive side o

Jul 17, 2007

Today was my 5th fill and I received an additional 1cc bringing my total cc's to 7cc's... I must say I do feel some restrictions. I lost 2 more pounds bringing my total weight lost to 19 pounds. I'm still being positive, because I know the band is a tool, and its up to me to make it work.
I still go to the Gym 4 to 5 times a week, and I work with the trainer 2 to 3 times a week. The scale is moving slowly but I can see my body shape changing, and I lost a lot of inches...Several people and the step class instructor at the Gym has told me I look good, and they can see the weight lost. One women told me my stomach would stick out and now it down, and she can see how big my boobs are. LOL! One person told me my shorts were too big (they were). So, I'm going to be happy with that lost, but I'm also planning on reviewing my calorie intake to see where I can make some more changes.
I'm going on vacation next week to the beach, and we have several outdoor activities planned. So that will keep the calorie burning until I get back to the Gym.

By the way My weight watcher scale told me I was 1 1/2 pound lighter with no cloth on...LOVE that scale!! Maybe at the next weight in I will strip down to my undies...Hmmmmm.
