And here we go again

Dec 25, 2009

Ok so it have been over a year now. At least I am getting emails to remind me that I need to be up here.  I am about 190 still.  Have moved to NC, started a new job and lost my grandmother.  I have a friend that is seriously considering having the surgery here in NC as well as a couple of friends that one had it right before Thanksgiving in IN and one is having it next week.  I am not sure that they are even up here.  I tried on my sister's size 10 coat today and it almost fit- big motivation for me to GET on it!!  I just need to get in shape and lose these darn hips!  Everything else will tone with those work outs.  Maybe the new year and no baby yet will give me the motivation I need.

WOW!!! It's Been a While

Aug 23, 2008

I know I know- Supporthelps.  But hey- At least I know I need the help and to get back on track.  I am 15 mos out and have lost between 85-95 lbs- depending on the day.  A lot has occurred in the last several months.  My mom suddenly passed away in March- Heart Attack as a result of Diabetes- One reason for me to get back on track.  I of course  canceled my long awaited vacation that we had planned for the day she had the Heart attack. I am flutuating between 185-195 lbs.  I have quit the personal trainer and I am now starting back with  a new one tomorrow- 8/25/08. SoI will try and keep up on here more.  Trying to make a baby as well.  Email me if you want to chat.

4 months and counting

Sep 20, 2007

Hi all,
It is a brand new day.  I had a very rough June-July; I retched at least once an hour while awake just bringing up spit like a hyperemesis patient . It was not attractive and I regretted having surgery. I had a scope on June 29th and then IVF (with vitamins and supplements) on July 20th-literally hours before I got on a plane to my family reunion. I then decided I had way to much to do and wanted to enjoy this thing.  The IVF really helped and I strated trying new foods that weekend at the reunion. I have lost about 61 lbs so far and now have a personal trainer to kick my butt so I can lose another 25 or so by Nov 2- my college homecoming that I haven't been to in 2-3 years.  I am enjoying working out now that it does not hurt as much and I am sweating up a storm.  I am even really beginning to enjoy water again (it was all I could tolerate from about June 10- July 20 and I was OVER it).   Trying to watch my pop intake and really watch what I eat. But sesame chicken and french fries are a girls weakness and my Roux tolerates them just fine.  My roux hates veggies though just as much as I have most of my life- imagine that.  It 's finally worth it. Enjoy the new pics and drop me a line if you so desire.

I'm working on it

May 15, 2007

Hi all.  Well surgery went great.  I asked for my anesthesiologist because I work in a neighboring hospital and he agreed to help me out. I recall going into the OR, looking around, moving to the OR bed and hearing "now here is some medicine".  Next thing I knew I was in recovery asking for ice and then being wheeled into my room.  I think I was in my room about 12pm.  By 1:30 pm with the help of some lortab and zofran I did 2 laps in the hall.  By midnight I had completed 16 ( which is a mile on the Bariatric butterfly unit at St Vincent Carmel).  My day nurse kept calling me the poster child because I told her I wanted to go home by Thursday night.  Neither my husband nor I do hospitals wells and I didn't want my mom to have to spend another night on a cot, so Thursday from midnight to 2 pm I did another 16 laps, gave myself lovenox, took po meds and food, was off oxygen and on my way home by 7:30 pm.  I walked right out of the hospital.
I am doing well at home.  Trying to eat 3 meals but getting full very quickly.  Hate my protien shakes, vitamins, and carafate but I am taking my prilosec and BCP like a champ. Up walking and doing incentive spirometry even in the middle of the night.  trying really hard to drink more fluids and plenty of milk but that too is hard for a girl that ate twice a day with about 2-3 drink a day one of which had to be a pop.  Incisions ( had it lap) and abdominal binder doing well even wearing my ted hose at night.

Going to try mashed potatoes and cream soups more this week.  If anyone has other suggestions let a girl know. Hubby takes good care of me and gives me plenty of ice and liquids.  Tonight I am trying "broth" from a potatoe soup from a resturant and it is sooooo good.  I am not weighing myself till at least next week.  That's all for now.

My Journey Thus Far

Apr 09, 2007

Well I am new to this whole blog thing so bear with me.  I started thinking about WLS after several people at my job had it within the past 2-3 years so really around May/June of 2006.  I had been doing Curves for over a year with only 20 lbs lost.  Then last summer I did " The biggest loser " at my job.  I lost about an additional 10 #'s- most of it when I was on Vacation in FL for my sorority conf. and eating "normal"- 3 meals a day during the day.  See I have worked nights since I graduate from College in 2000 and my metabolism went down the drain in the past 7 years I have probably gained 50-70 #. I definely do not recall being over 200 in college but who knows....

Fast forward to last summer.  I returned from my trip and realized I had lost weight eating and drinking and hanging out.  I realized also that it was because I was up during the day walking on the beach and in the hotel and that it was my FREAKING metabolism that was truly out of control.  (My brother in law had told me this was my problem back in 2003 when I was living with him and my sister and trying to  lose weight for my wedding on 4/10/04- yes today is my anniversary- but I did not believe him.  Guess what- the goober was right. And something must be done.)

I did some research and praying- did not go back to curves since - I was pissed after my trip.  I decided to see what would happen with not working out ect.  Well I gained back the 20 # it had taken over a year to lose in a matter of 4 months and another 10# since Dec 06. In the mean time I stopped my BCP in Nov and decided that if I was meant to have WLS then I would not be pregnant before I was approved.

Around Nov 15th I decided to submit my questionnaire to a local bariatic center. See I work for the hospital and I have a BMI over 40- my co workers who had had the surgery almost guaranteed I would be approved. I was thinking the lap band at most the RNY but I wanted it to be laproscopic and reversible. On Nov 28th,  2 days before my 30th b- day I received a call from St Vincent Carmel Bariatrics Center to attend a consult  session on Dec 7th.

Dec 7th I met Christopher Evanson- this skinny sort of cocky white man that  could change my life if I agreed to work with him at it.   He taught part of our class.  Described what he would do and that he was " bought to ST V's Carmel due to his laproscopic certification."  Well I wanted a lap procedure right... God must have had a plan.   During my one on one he said I had the perfect scenario for this procedure.... Young (should bounce back quickly), AA (good skin tugor), pear shape (almost no belly but plenty of hips, butt  and thighs).  I asked questions and he answered very satisfatorily (is that even a word).
I told him I would have to pray and talk with my hubby about it and I would set up everything as if  I agreed to continue.  I scheduled my pysch visit for Dec 28th and went off to pray.

Well between Dec 1 and 25th I had to have had about 3-5 pts at my job who had had WLS. A resident,  I found out was doing a research project on preganancy after WLS.  My co-workers were struggling with what to eat but continued to lose weight and I PRAYED for God to do as he saw fit (see above about BCP).  Dec 28th I filled out the 300 + questionaire and the little psych man deemed me ok.  He did seem enchanted with the thought that my mother allowed me to eat Chef Boyardee whenever I did not like what she or my grandmother had cooked for dinner- LOL. Like I said in my intro- I was a picky eater as a child and still am.

I sent my info into the Dr's around Dec 20th and started the wait process.  I met other  people who were having or had had the surgery- a friend of my brother's back in NC as well as another co worker was about 3 weeks ahead of me in the process- hi Shawn.

On Jan 11th I called and left a message with my Dr's office- they had said in my mtg that it would  take 2-4 weeks to get things done and to call and check up on things in the middle of Jan.  No Answer.  Called back on Jan 24th and was told by a nurse to check with my insurance. The office mgr was out until like Feb or something.   Called Humana and they said I had been approved on JAN 17th for March 30-April 9.  Well I have 3 trips planned for April so I new that would just not work.  Called the scheduler and she said I was WAY DOWN on her list and she would call me later with a more specific date.  Well around  Feb 1 or so she called with a date of April 10th- My anniversary and was like oh that would be perfect- I think not- again 3 trips this month.  So we settled for May 9th- after all of my trips but before summer took over and work gets crazy again.

It has been a long 2 months.  I have had everything all planned out with classes, work (2 jobs as a nurse- FT 3 days a week and PRN 1-2 days a week), Dr's appts and classes- all between my trips.

Which brings us to today.... My  3 year wedding anniversary.  Going to PF Chang's tonight for the last time for probably 6-8 months.  PAT is on Thursday and trip # 1 is this weekend till Tuesday April 17th- RNC conf in Boston with a friend and former co-worker.  Wish me luck and I will try to make future blogs MUCH shorter and keep up with things.
