June 5, 2007Here's my story, I'm 38 approaching 40 fast and fat.  My mother passed away just about 2 years ago at such a young age and obese.  I see myself heading in the same direction fast.  I have a 14 year old son and I really want to be there for him a lot longer.

After countless doctors that kept assuring me that "I had a pretty face and I'm so always well put together" that I don't need to have this surgery, I took matters into my own hands.  FINALLY, after seeing an advertisement for Gastric surgery I made a call to Dr. Ali's office and they told me how to get started.  I went to my doctor’s office and refused to leave until she agreed to give me a referral to the Healthy Roads (HR) program that Pacific Care required.  Then I switched doctors he's the best doctor EVER, he listened to my concerns about my high cholesterol and many other weight concerns and submitted a referral to see a surgeon. Pacific Care denied it based on me not being in Healthy Roads for 6-months as requred.

So here I am in the program and keeping my fingers crossed that in September, my HR coach will say that I'm ready and that I can see Dr. Ali.  The clock seems to be ticking way to slow, I get so discouraged.
