A couple weeks out....what an interesting ride so far...

Feb 02, 2013

Well, surgery was Jan 14 and went really well from the surgeon's stand point.  The anesthesia knocked me on my ass, however.  I couldn't sit up for more than 5 minutes for the following 2 days without dozing off for who knows how long.  I actually didn't have any pain at the surgery site, which was a nice surprise.

I did have quite a bit of nausea (threw up a few times - which did hurt), and I'm fairly certain most of it was me trying to consume too much too quickly.  I was so concerned about drinking my fluids that I'm sure I was getting too much. Plus they had me on excess fluids to make sure I was peeing effectively after the catheder was removed, so I was just so uncomfortably water logged.

Once I got home - afternoon of Jan 16 - I bascially went immediately to bed.  Just the car ride home wiped me out, and there was no way I could ingest anything with the water logging.  Over the next few days, I must have slept 12-15 hours a day.  CRAZY.  But it must have been necessary for healing because everything did seem to be healing quickly.

The only real problem that I've had since is that getting my fluids in has been really really hard because by the end of the day, I'm so full that if I try to take anything else in, I vomit.  And nothing really comes up....it's just the nausea is awful because i FEEL full....but I'm not.

Went for my post op check up on the 31st, and the Dr. said it was suspected that the connection site from my new pouch to the instestines was swollen...making it really difficult for anything to pass.  so they put me on liquid prednisone to reduce swelling.  Let me tell ya - this stuff is VILE!  So vile that it was making me throw up even more....like every time I took it.  So, now I have to prep with fenergen suppositories before taking it so that the nausea doesn't counteract the medicine that is supposed to be helping me.  Geez.  I'm like a pharmacological experiment here!  I did find that if I hold my nose and shoot the prednisone like tequila, it helps a little.  I'd prefer the tequila though.

Went back to work on the 1st, and it wiped me out completely.  Was a loooooong day - I felt missed and necessary. lol.  But by the time I got home, I hopped straight into bed and slept my ass off.

Today is my precious youngest daughter's birthday (Sophie).  She's 2 today and was a little ball of fire all day - I wouldn't have expected any less.  I made cupcake pops for everyone and was not even tempted to cheat a little and lick one.  Which I found to be an accomplishment on it's own!

So, all in all, 2+ weeks out from surgery....I'm down 31lbs from pre-op liquid diet start weight....and I'm introducing some pureed foods into my diet.  Not quite as nasty as I thought it would be.  Thank god I'm not a texture averse person when it comes to food.

Until next time!....
