My 3rd fill

Jul 18, 2007

I had my 3rd fill last Tuesday, they put 2 cc in my 4cc band and UGHHH was I tight i had problems eating so i went to liquids then mushies the reg food I ate VERY little over the weekend - we were camping.  Monday I could not keep any food and very little fluids down so Tuesday I drove back to OK and Dr. Broussard took .2 out (.4 was given last week) well quess what now I have VERY little restriction agian and feel my last fill was pointless now. So I have to drive back down in a couple weeks to fill agian UUGHHH I am feeling a little discouraged.  I did loose 6 pounds in a week though but now I can eat I know they will be very hard to keep off.  I will do my best.  I wish we would have taken less out i can't believe how much of a difference so little can make!

Another update 3 months post op

Jun 20, 2007

6-20-07
I posted this on the boards today, it tells a little about where I am 3 months post op

Hello everyone, most faces look new, some I know from my OH addiction in the earlier part of this year .  I am here, Banded since March 19th 2007.  I have 2 fills (1.6 total in my 4 band) I feel very little restriction and at this point I will admit I am not as motivated as in the begining I have lost 30 lbs and have gained back about 6.  Everyday I wake up and say today I will eat the band way and make this work and then by mid day i am VERY hungry because I feel very little restriction if any.  Is this normal?  Will this get better once I hit my sweetspot.  I am feeling like I am failing and need some support.  Any tips???? I am going to get my original band rules out and start fresh just getting a little upset I guess at this point I thought it would be a little diffrent.  If you were banded around the same time please let me know how your doing.  Thanks everyone!!! Amanda

3 1/2 week check up

Apr 16, 2007

4-16-07  I had my check up last thur.  It was my 2 week but because of a reschedule it ended up being a 3 1/2 week check up, everything was fine.  Dr. Broussard was not there after all but the PA said everything was great.  I seen my nut. And she went over my 4 week diet, it is titled healthy foods for life...pretty much the basic band eating way - I can start that today but have not yet.  I am learning how my band has a mind of it's own it seems - sometimes I feel wide open and that I could eat a whole turkey and other times I feel ALOT of restriction.  HHMMMM tricky- I started taking a couple of vitamins just for nutruition to get the daily recommended amount I take calcium and iron and multivitamins now.  I feel great I feel the same as pre op at this point as far  as no pain anymore, I am down 29.5 pounds and am happy with that- I did not have an intense pre-op diet.  My first fill is May 1st.

Appointment rescheduled

Apr 06, 2007

Well my 2 week post op appointment was rescheduled.  My Doc has good Friday off and reception did not know that at the time appt was made.   I now go back next thur. the 12th.   I am doing so-so on the 2nd stage of the diet.  I am on soft proteins, such as eggs, beans, lunch meats, and canned meats.  In the begining I was eating about 1/2 to 1 cup 3x daily and I was getting these really sharp pain in my band area that radiated to my back (between my shoulder blades) I spoke with some OH friends and my nut. and desided to go back to liquids and work myself SLOWLY back to eating tiny bites and chewing and it has helped I am only eating maybe 1 cup of food a day and thats divided in at least 3 or 4 settings.  I for the most part have little to no interest in food.  At home I am 10 pounds down from the day of surgery and my scale weighs a little more then the one in the hospital, I have had some NSV such as my rings are too big and I can get my original wedding set back on, my clothes are too big, even my shoes and bras are getting too big.  That is all great.   I am looking forward to being able to eat regular foods and tolerate them and I am VERY ready to soak in the tub.  I have to wait 1 more week for that.  Everything seems to be going along nicely.

Update

Mar 28, 2007

3-28-07  I am doing well just some port pain and finally hitting the end of the gas pains.  I am 3 days away from being able to eat soft proteins and I AM READY.  I am getting to that hungry stage. (bandster hell)  The first week of liquids I only lost 1 pound I was a little disappointed but this week my body must have calm down and I see the scale moving (down for a change)  That is my motivation (and fear) to stick to my liquid diet.  I have thought of many soft dishes I can have, my imagination has gone wild : ) I go see my surgeon and nut. on April 6th.  Everything seems to be healing nicely.  I went to work today and did fine.  I am very excited about my "new life" and second chance.

Healing in a hotel

Mar 22, 2007

3-22-07  I am still in Oklahoma staying in a Marriott Hotel.  I am doing great, no problems getting my fluids in, pain is managable, staying strong.   Yesterday we walked the mall and the family went swimming. Today we shopped and went to the OKC memorial sight, shopped, went sight seeing, and once agian the kiddos went swimming.  I am doing much better then I thought I would at this point.  I do have gas and hunger pains and at times feel a bit weak, but overall am doing really wee. Tomorrow we go see Dr. Broussard and hopefully get the ok to head home.  I am ready to be home and in my own enviornment.  We have had a nice time here though.  I miss my friends and family.  All is well and I can't wait to see how much weight i lose.

my surgery

Mar 20, 2007

3-20-07 Yesterday was my big day!  I left me house around 6:00 am and my mom followed Jason and I to Oklahoma, we got there around 8:45 and filled out some paper work then took a PG test then I changed into a gown and some skid socks/slippers and laid down in my pre op bed they fitted me for those hose that pump up and filled out more paper work.  My nurses were so wonderful to me.  I truly can't tell you enough how much I love those people!  Some people came in and asked if I had questions and gave me more info then they slipped my bonnet on and I was off to the OR.  I slid onto their table and they strapped my arms down at that time I started slipping away.... the next thing I remember I woke up in the recovery room at 12:19 asking how it all went.  They said you did great.  The pain was about a 5 or 6 and a bit naseous (sp) but they treated me for that as well (quickly).  I was rolled into my room where my mom and husband were waiting.  I slept most of the day.  We did watch a movie (Last Holiday) my mom had left and it was just rest time, I did become very nauseous and light headed.  I walked to my upper GI which came out ok then back to my room.  I fell asleep and slept (with pain meds) off and on all night, I woke up at 8:00AM and felt much better.  I showered and dressed and walked some more.  I sipped alot and got my dicharge directions from everyone.  The surgeon came in and talked about the surgery.  He said everything went perfect and went over more directions.
they removed my IV and I was on my way to the hotel after stopping at walgreens to pic up my meds...(lortab, phenergan, and protonix)
My pain at this time is mostly from Gas and my larger port insision.  The pain is tolerable it is about a 3.  Some items I packed and wanted to share are gas-x, loose fitting clothing, a cami (no bras- they rub on your insision) lotion, mouth wash (a constant nasty taste in my mouth)  chapstick, pony tail holders w/out metal, ... that is a few from the actual surgery stay... the stay here at the hotel days 2-5 for me I brought clothing and daily stuff as well as several  liquids...crystal light, water, decaf teas, sweet n low, propel, welches juices I bought the clear ones, broths, jellos, dixie cups to drink from to prevent gulping, isopure.  I will have to update later to let you know if I missed anything.  Also don't forget your slip on shoes, phone number list and camera.  I am so excited to start my new journey and to finally be on the losing side!!!

Pre op

Mar 07, 2007

3-7-07 I had my pre op appt yesterday and got all my directions for surgery.  I had to get some lab work, pay in full, and get all my t's crossed and I's dotted.  I met with Dr. Broussard for any final questions and the nutritionist who gave me directions for pre and post surgery.  All went well, it was a very simple appointment.  I also went to weightwise support group which I thought was great! I am hoping to be able to make it to more I know the travel at night may not allow me to attend every one but I found it to be informational and enjoyed meeting  people in the same "boat".  Surgery in less then 2 weeks! I can't believe it.  I am ready.

Inspired by a friend

Mar 01, 2007

Dear Fat,
As you know we go way back, to about the 2nd grade. We have had our ups and our downs.  I have fought you for years and years.  You have given me things that at a glance someone would not see, but I am done with you.  Thanks for the blanket over me that hid me when I needed, thanks for no matter what always being there as an excuse but you have wore out your welcome, find somewhere else to go because I am taking my body back. All of it, there is no place for you in my life, you have taken from me things I will never get back, you have stole from me, and for all the negative things you have done I truly hate you and refuse to let you be with me.  you have taken from my family, my friends, my husband and even my children.  Oh and how it will be great when your gone. I can sit in any chair, I can run, I can be free, I can have a sense of fashion, I can ride the rides with my children, I can show my girls how to be in control of themselves and be confident.  I have to face my greatest fear for you and on surgery day I WILL! I will face it to retrieve the things that seem so long gone and things as a women I have never experienced because you have held me back.  I can experience a sense of health, a real bear hug, a feeling of self worth of being average in size and being above average in life.
