Hi Amanda, I was just reading your profile page, (I love your page by the way). It sounds like u r kind of torn between the band and the RNY. I chose the RNY and had to have it open, I was nervous but not really scared. My surgeon, Mark Shina, gave me the option of having a vena cava filter put in before surgery. It helps in case u get a blood clot, it is there to catch any that break loose and travel north. The filter is permanant. It wasn't anything to put in. I have never had a blood clot but u never know and the filter made me feel safer. The trick for this surgery is to go with the surgeon u feel u can trust your life with. For me it was Dr Shina. I researched several surgeons and felt like he was the best for me. Of course, I was nervous this is a major thing but I knew God and Dr Shina would get me thru. The first month is the hardest. U r getting used to your pouch, what u can eat, etc. But it gets better every day. I had my surgery on March 24, 05 and since then have lost 160 pounds. I know several people who have had the band and have been happy with it. I personally wouldn't have had it because I am impatient and wanted to lose more faster. U lose more weight and u lose it faster with the rny. I hope that things work out great for u and email me anytime u want to talk or have questions. I have a yahoo messenger for chatting, its
[email protected]. My story is on my profile page along with loads of pics. U r welcome to read about my journey if u want.
Hugs and Good luck
Angela
