Feeling better!

Aug 13, 2007

I think that the carnitine supplement is helping a lot! And my bp is finally in the normal range (today at ob/gyn 122/80)!! Saturday I went to an almost 2 hour workout class with some women from work-- omg thought I was gonna die but came home and drank lots of water and ate some protein instead. My muscles are still sore but when I weighed this morning (first time in 10 days) I was down 3.2 lbs so I was happy to see the scale move for the first time in over 2 weeks. Bariatriceating.com sent me a free sample of their low carb chocolate chip cookie mix and I made them today and they are dangerously good! Had to put them in the freezer to get them out of sight. Sabotage!

low carnitine

Aug 08, 2007

So after my high bp/low blood sugar scare last week, the rest of the labs finally came in and my carnitine is 28 and the range is 34-86. I researched on the internet and symptoms of carnitine deficiency include palpitations, hypoglycemia and confusion. So I've got an email in to Dr. A to see how to fix this-- possibly supplements? Who would have thought carnitine??

New foods...

Aug 06, 2007

It has been such a pleasant surprise to find that most everything, except chicken, sits well in my new stomach. Today I had a Dr. Kracker cracker with pb-- delicious! Soy chicken nuggets with lite ranch-- delicious! Soy burger with cheese and Taco Bell sauce-- delicious! So tomorrow I'm making a meatloaf (one of my favorites!) to see how that is. I've found that all meats except chicken are fine-- shredded pork sits especially well. Most carbs sit well, unfortunately; so I try to keep it to complex carbs. Been better about getting my vitamins in (at least one chewable a day) -- I keep forgetting my B-12 before work. Water has been going ok as well... two days ago I excercised for the first time and 30 minutes on the recumbent bike and I was DONE. So I'll have to continue to work on that. Other than that-- happy as a clam and watching the inches and lbs melt off!

BP up

Jul 31, 2007

I've been having BP spikes lately-- up to 157/101 and my hands get tingly and my vision gets blurry. PCP ran the full spectrum of tests today but she thinks its because my blood sugar is getting too low from not eating frequently enough. So tonight I'm eating every 2 hours to see if that helps... scared the heck out of me not knowing what it was!

Water!!

Jul 28, 2007

I HAVE TO REMEMBER not to drink water for 20 minutes after eating. We went out to lunch on Friday and I was doing so well with my tuna salad and took a huge glug of water and had to go walk the parking lot until I felt better. Also, I'm glad I'm only weighing myself once a week. And I'm still in shock about being down so many inches!! Can't wait to post 1 month pics ... I'm already seeing a big difference and am so happy that I've had such good luck with new foods lately!

Learning the tricks of the trade...

Jul 22, 2007

Well I am slowly figuring out my new tummy. I definitely can't drink anything within about 20-30 minutes after eating. It just doesn't sit well. Last night I drank a SlimFast too fast and thought I was going to keel over. Sweats, gagging, nausea, headache. Thankfully it resolved with walking within about 30 minutes. I still find that I need a lot more sleep than pre-surgery. I tried taking a B12 before work to see if that makes me feel any better but haven't noticed a difference. Starting adding some cheese, mini Babybels are the perfect size and sit very well. Also, Taco Bell pintos n'cheese are delish! Probably in a couple days I'll add in tuna but after the SlimFast incident I feel safer sticking to the tried and true!

At work...

Jul 20, 2007

Well today is my first day back at work... I need to remember to get my water in because I'm walking around a lot more. Also starting to work up to 600 calories, I'm only around 450 right now. Anxious to start trying cheeses and some lean meats but I'm only 10 days out. I would kill for some tuna on saltines though... Still raining in TX.... yuck; not good for walking.

Home again

Surgery went well-- recovering happily at home. Amazing to me that I am no longer hungry... not even interested in food. Strangest thing....
