Got my surgery date today!!!

Jun 25, 2007

I had my pre-op teaching class today and then met with my surgeon, Dr. Thomas Jones @ PNC.  I will be having my surgery on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at 2pm at Methodist Hospital in St Louis Park.

I cannot believe that it is only one month away!  I am sure the time will fly by until then, trying to get things done before surgery so I won't have to worry when I get home from the hospital.

What an exciting time for me!  My husband still doesn't want to talk about it, but I think it is his way of figuring things out.  An engineer's way of thinking....not the same as my way of thinking. But he is the best guy in the whole world. I couldn't ask for a better husband or father for our 2 darling daughters.  Life is good!!!

I will start my liquid diet on July 16th, not really looking forward to this part of my journey, but just keeping in mind that this is the next step in getting myself to a much healthier place in my life makes it a challenge I can totally do!

Guess that is all for now.....just so excited for my date!!!!!!!

Some things I look forward too...

My surgery date can't get here quick enough!

Jun 14, 2007

I am so ready to get this weight off.  My hips and feet have been really hurting these last few days.  My feet have even started swelling. I think it is the heat and the humidity plus I have been on my feet alot.  I am trying to get even some, a little bit of weight off before my date because I know that helps you be more successful losing after surgery.   I am just ready to start living again painfree!  That is what I look forward too the most, plus just having energy and not beling so tired all the time.  My two beautiful little girls are so active and there is so much I can't do with them right now.  So hopefully by the end of the summer I will have lost some weight and we can start doing tons of stuff outside because I will be able to join in!!!  I am so looking forward to that.

I AM APPROVED!!!!!! June 8, 2007

Jun 10, 2007

I got the call from Jennifer at PNC today that Health Partners approved me for surgery!  Only 74 days since I started the process with the informational meeting!!!!  I was so excited that I couldn't stand still. What an amazing feeling!!!! I was so excited that it was hard to listen to what she was telling me that I had to do.  I made 3 appointments.

First one was with Debbie to schedule my appointment with my surgeon, Dr. Thomas Jones that will be on June 25th. I first have a pre-op teaching class at 830am and then I meet with Dr. Jones at 1130am.

Second appointment will be on June 18th with the dietician to go over the liquid diet part of the process.

Then on June 20 at 715am I will have an ultrasound to check my gall bladder.

So June 25th I will have my surgery date to start my new healthy lifestyle and to lose this weight so I can do everything that I want to do.

I am hoping that time goes by fast so I can get to June 25 and get my surgery date.

More to come.....

Paperwork submitted to Health Partners

Jun 10, 2007

My paperwork has been submitted to Health Partners on May 31, so hopefully we made the deadline so it won't be considered being faxed on June 1.

Carol said that now it is in the hands of Health Partners and we should wait about 2 weeks to get word that I am approved or not!

Keeping my fingers crossed but not really too anxious about waiting.  So far my journey has gone quickly.  I think I reached the point to day in 66 days, so a few more days don't seem to be too much to wait.

I had my echocardiogram done this morning at the Allina Clinic here in Northfield.  Everything went well and the tech said there was nothing to worry about, but we still had to wait until the test was read and get the official results.

Now we are heading to Ohio to spend the next week with my family.  A long 14 hour drive (broken up into 2 days for the girls) and we will be there.

Now waiting to get everything to Carol so I can get my paper work submitted to Health Partners before June 1 when they change some criteria to their program.

Been awhile...

Jun 10, 2007

since I have posted, but I wanted to share what I have been doing.  On May 22, 2007 I had my EKG done, met with the physical therapist, the dietician and then with the bariatric MD.  My EKG was fine, no worry there.

Meeting with the PT we talked at the beginning to see where I was at and what I thought I could do.  Then we walked at my pace for six minutes to see where I needed to be to get the full benefit of exercising.  I walked at a good pace for me at this time, so at least I was doing that right.  I just need to walk at this pace for at least 5 times a week 20 to 40 minutes each session.  Lisa, the PT was very nice and made me very comfortable.  I learned quite a bit from her and now know what I need to do to help my body lose this extra weight after surgery.

Next was the dietician, Shira, she was very sweet.  She had tons of good information and let me know what I needed to start doing now so I would be more prepared for after surgery.  Eat protein first, then fruits & veggies and then if I am still hungry to add some type of carb.  I need to have 50-55 grams of protein a day for my body type.

Now on to the MD, Dr. Sarah Evert. We went over my medical history and then she asked quite a few questions and then I had my exam.  I need to have an echocardiogram done since I did take Phen-fen during the early 90s.

After that I just had to wait and have my echo done and then have my paperwork submitted to Health Partners for approval.

I'm boring......4/26/2007

Apr 25, 2007

And that is a good thing.  I had my psych appointment yesterday and much easier than I thought it would be.  She told me I was just boring and that was a good thing.  The appointment went very well and was only there about an hour.  I was able to make my PT, dietician and bariatric md appointment before I left. I was able to schedule them for all on one day. So, on May 22 I will be heading up to St Louis Park again for the entire morning. I think after that everything will be submitted to HP.

I also had the follow up with the sleep study doctor and picked up my c-pap machine.  I found out that I was having 92 episodes an hour, so that mean every 45 seconds or so I stopped breathing.  That was really scary to hear and then I realized I was not sleeping much during the night. Being asleep for 7.5 hours I was only "sleeping" about 5.6 hours and not ever getting to the deep sleep or REM.  I think what worried me the most was that my oxygen level was going down to 78%, way too low.

I was able to sleep very well with the c-pap last night. The doctor said it would take about 2 weeks to feel a difference of being rested and then about 6 months to get the total effect.  He wants me to come back in about 15 months to do another sleep study, after the surgery and my weight has gotten to a leveling off point so I can see if the apnea has cured itself by losing my extra weight.

I am excited that I have one more step done and the month will go by quickly and I will get submitted to insurance and get approved and get set for my surgery date, so hopefully by mid-summer I will be sitting on that losers bench!!!!!!!

Sleep study done...4/16/07

Apr 15, 2007

My sleep study went really well. I was able to get to sleep with all the wires attached to me along with two hose type things in my nose to measure my breathing.  My tech, Amanda (she was great) came in around 2am with a mask for me to try. So I do have sleep apnea, but she wouldn't say how many times I quit breathing but enough for her to come in and have me try the mask.  It took awhile to get back to sleep, not really sure how long it too, but some time.  I remember waking up two times and thinking...oh,I went to sleep. Amanda came in at 6am to wake me so I could get ready to go home. She went over a few things and sent me home with a folder of infomation. I will call today to schedule a follow-up appointment with the dr and then will call to set up a time to be fitted for my c-pap.
I am looking forward to resting more soundly and waking up feeling rested. That will be a great feeling. Now I have one more step done on my way to my surgery date.
