Amy F.
So I have been overweight my entire life. I have been on more diets than I care to share. I honestly believe I tried them all. In 2007, I had a client of mine who suggested I go to her surgeon to consider Lap Band. I met with the surgeon, got on board and had my surgery in February 2008. I went through every stage of recovery and then could not process most every food I tried to intake. Every meal I was in some form getting sick - from cramps to throwing up. So much so, that I developed a larger hiatal hernia, GERD and horrible throat pains. The most I lost with the band was 26 lbs - in a year!!!! So, I made a promise to myself that if my band was not going to work - I needed to get it taken out. Of course the surgeon swore it was me, that I was making excuses, that my band was too tight (even though we did a million modifications to the amount of saline over that year). I really was beginning to think that there was no option, but to just do this on my own. In the beginning of 2009, I had an idea that maybe I wasn't the only one out there that the Lap Band was not working on. I did a great deal of research and found out - not only was I not the only one - there was a large population of people it did not work for. So I set out to research Gastric Bypass. I knew I wanted the band out, but wanted something that would work long term. I found a great surgeon, Dr. Marquez, who agreed it wasn't all in my head. She was an amazing support throughout the process and on November 17th of 2009, I had my Gastric Bypass surgery. She fixed my hiatal hernia and took out my band. I cannot say how happy I am that the "foreign object" is out of my body.
Dr. Marquez is an amazing surgeon and completely made me feel at ease during every step of the process. I am very grateful for this surgery and have lost an amazing amount of weight so far (36 lbs in less than one month!).
I look forward to a much brighter future - and as my husband calls it - as the amazing shrinking woman!:)
