I buy from Puritan's pride..they usually offer buy one get 2 free..If the ingredients are identical, and the quality comparable...this might save you money

Swanson Health Products.  Products often work out as a better deal than even the Puritan's Buy 2 Get 1 or what every they are running.  You will probably find the product in the same milligrams for single ingredient items.  Stuff like multi's or combination items may be close, but not identical because that particular blend would be exclusive to the company.   They have better customer service too. It's probably not a bad price for all that stuff, but I sure couldn't afford that much a month.  Do you really feel you need all those things?  All the herbs?

In addition, I see no iron, B12, or D3 there, and that's probably not enough calcium, so you'd have to buy those things separately.

I've been sampling vitamins as I must start them pre-op next Wednesday.  I really like the Celebrate vitamins.  You can find them in some nutrition stores like Nutrition Depot or you can order them on the Celebrate website at www.celebratevitamins.com

OK, but in addition to this, you'll need:

protein
multi
iron (not ferrous)
calcium citrate
C
D3
E
A
K1
B12 sublingual
zinc
copper

B complex?

If his is in oil, if any are in oil, they don't count.

Otherwise, it's a lot of money for things that you do not NEED, but would be nice to have.

Excuse me for hijacking the thread, but I have question for vitalady. I will be having a vsg sometime in the next month or two. At one time I saw your chart for recommended supplementation for this procedure. I cannot find it on your site. Could you or someone please provide a link for me? Thank you. Also, can VSG people take oil gel caps?

Dr. Weil does "custom vitamin packets" like this:

https://www.drweilvitaminadvisor.com/?aid=333316&aparam=gateway

The vitamins, herbs etc are combined & packaged based on one's "needs" and to avoid taking 20 pills per day.  I am completely in synch w/ Dr Weil in his blend of allopathic and integrative/alternative medicine, however I remember his very first book wherein he said "don't spend a lot of money on vitamins!!  They're all essentially the same."  Profits go to the Weil Foundation, a not-for-profit organization "dedicated to supporting integrative medicine through training, education and research."  But do I hafta fund that?

Is there a way to use my FSA car for vitamins, wherever I buy them?

You actually CAN use your FSA card for vitamins if you have your DR fill out the appropriate paperwork saying that they are medically necessary.

You probably don't need all of those herbal supplements, and they may interefere with any script meds yoyu may currently take.  I take a liquid vitamin that's $29, dry D3 and calcium citrate from vitalady.com at under $50 a month, clucosimine and condroitin (for joint issue) and a vitmin K supplement from Puritan Pride at a few bucks a month.  This is less than $100 a month. I take the extra D3 as I had D issues, and I'd recommend that everyone take a specific dry D3 daily.   Take a good vitamin (twice RDA levvels). a sub lingual B12, dry D3 and calcium citatrate plus daily plus any srcript items you take daily. Depending on lab work, you may need extra iron, change your D3 or B12 levels, etc. depending on lab results.  DAVER  Dave Chambers, 6'3" tall, 345 before RNY, 185 currently. Iron?  B12?  D3?

Keep in mind we need DRY forms of ADEK  so I doubt the vite E will work.

I take:

multi #1 at 6AM  and biotin
multi #2 at 11AM and iron
multi #3 at 2PM  and iron
calcium #1 at 5PM
calcium #2 at 8PM
calcium #3 at 10:30PM (as I go to bed)..

Someone told me that we absorb calcium better at the end of the day...dunno if that is true or not...

Please share with me your vitamin schedule.  Maybe I can learn a thing or two and tweak my own.
Feel free to criticize mine and point out the error of my ways...I'm not beyond becoming better at this!

Thanks!

58-05219 - Energizing Iron View Larger Image Item No: 58-05219 UPC: 763948052196

Energizing Iron

90 Softgels Our Price: $12.29 Retail: $20.95 41% OFF Label Information FeaturesIngredientsDirections

Highly absorbable heme iron supports healthy energy levels*

Iron helps produce energy and reduce fatigue. Two forms of dietary iron exist: heme and non-heme. Energizing Iron contains heme iron. Heme iron is found in lean red meat, dark poultry, shrimp and tuna, making Energizing Iron a good choice for vegetarians who might not get enough iron. Non-heme iron is found in fruits, vegetables, grains and eggs. Clinical research has shown that the human body more readily absorbs heme iron up to 33% more than non-heme iron.*

They have a store in LA (a little drive from me) called Lindbergh's Nutrition.

They sell it.  And it appears they sell it online too.

(if anyone knows if I should NOT take these...let me know)

It's questionable as to whether this is a good iron in my mind.  Someone on the RNY board brought it up and I looked into it.

While it's got heme capability via liver, it does also contain a regular iron supplement.  The iron used is one that is typically used as an iron forticant in food, but doesn't have a spectacular track record on it's own in terms of supplemental use.

Additionally, these are packed in oil..  I simply wonder how much you are malabsorbing due to that oil as we malabsorb fats -- especially right at the outset.

So my cautionary tale is to watch your labs very carefully.  I hope it works for you.

Where's B12?  You need B12.  Take it with your biotin.

Also, why 3 multis?

Taking Proferrin makes my life MUCH easier.

first thing: 25,000 IU vitamin A, 20,000 IU vitamin D3, 200mcg vitamin K1, 1000mcg b12
3 hours later or so: 500mg calcium, 1/2 of a centrum (just cause I dose 4x a day.. ), 1 Proferrin iron
2-3 hrs later: same
2-3 hrs later: same

Nope.

Calcium is Citracal or knockoffs.
Vitamins A, D, K are all from Vitalady.
The B12 is one I get from Target.  I think I bought NatureMade this time.
The multis are regular Centrums, or the knockoffs.
Proferrin is the heme iron.

I use cyanocobalamin.

Most of us don't NEED methylcobalamin.  It's kinda like Proferrin... it absorbs better in everyone, but most people do fine with carbonyl iron.

aah, yes...I forgot to mention.  B12, I get a monthly shot in the bum from either my doctor or an old WL clinic I used to go to...whomever is cheaper and scheduled...
I take the 3 multis because I use the Centrum Chewables, and I figured I would at least not be deficient if I took one extra a day.

I will look into proferrin as well.

Don't take 3 until you get a feel for what 2 is doing in your labs.  2 should be enough...I take the Centrum Silver Chewables..taste a million times better than the orange ones.

I am glad you are good and home from the hospital.

I am having my surgery at the end of the month - and I have gotten the items recommended by my Drs. office which are:

Centrum adult chewable -  how many do I take a day? 1?  2?
Wellesse Liquid Calcium Citrate
B complex sublingual
I have been taking Vitron C - can I crush those?
I have been taking 10,000 Vitamin D liquid gel once a week- do I still need that?

What is Biotin?
Andrea I have seen your webpage - very inspiring.  Do you have a list of what our blood tests should look like? And a list of what we need to take daily?

lexnike chickpea salad recipe

I also added finely chopped lettuce, their recipe didn't call for that.  The only other suggestion I have is to cut way down on the onion if you use red onion, they were potent and made me feel like I had heartburn!
Oh, their recipe also called for roasted red pepper, which I didn't have.  You just chop everything up and mix with a can of drained garbanzos.  It's nice and fresh tasting!

Ingredients

Directions

Mix all together, let marinate for 10 minutes.
