1st Fill

Jun 03, 2008

Well.....I had my first fill this morning.  First I spoke to Erin the dietitian.  I was concerned because I still do not really get hungry (concerned...lol...not complaining) and when I do eat...while it seems like I could eat a lot, I seem satisfied with only a few ounces (if that)...so I thought there was a possibility they would not give me a fill.  They explained that I most likely could eat if I chose to, thus looked at everything via fluro.  She had me stand, sprayed me with a numbing spray and poked the needle into my port.  She then had me drink the white goop and she inserted the saline until the white goop was a fine steady stream.  As she was finishing, I felt a sudden warmth come over me and started to get dizzy.  She gave me a stool to sit on and a damp cloth for the back of my neck..then later some water.  Nothing like that has ever happened to me..but..I felt GREAT within a couple minutes. No pain.  Oh....3.8cc in my 9cc Realize band and I lost another 4 lbs....so I am now 241.  11 lbs since my surgery.   I am a little excited..because I start regular food on Friday...and to see how/if the fill helps with my weightloss.  But overall...11 lbs in 4 wks is better than 1-2 lbs a wk...and even though I lost most of the weight immediately after my surgery...I am seeing big changes in how my clothes are fitting.

2 Week Follow Up

May 20, 2008

Had my 2 wk follow up this morning.  I weighed in at 245 (plateaued for a wk).  I met with Erin (dietitian) and we discussed what & how much I have been eating.  She said many get their hunger back in 3 days to a week...a few make it through 2 wks..but I should count on getting it back with a vengeance in the next few days.  She approved me to move on to the soft diet.  I go back in 2 wks for my first fill.  She said not to be surprised if my plateau lingers or even if I gain a little...that it is "normal".  Of course I hope I do not gain..but always good to know what to expect.  I met with Erin, one of Dr C's nurse practitioner's.  She checked my incisions...asked lots of questions & ok'd me for water aerobics/recumbent bike etc.  We have relatives coming this weekend from NY and we usually are on the go the entire weekend.  It will be interesting as I will most likely be eating out often.

Banded and on my way...

May 08, 2008

Hi again. I made it thru my "tasty" medifast diet with an approx 15 lb pre-op diet loss.   I was 252 lbs when I left for the hosp on Tues.  It was a 1 1/2 hr drive & I was to be there at noon even though my surgery wasn't until 3pm.  They said he usually runs early & I was one of his last surgeries of the day..thus if he is early on all of them, it would be good if I was there. I felt really bad..because my sister who took me is a nurse & had worked all night so she only got in an hr of sleep, then they told us he was running a couple hrs late. At 3, they said there were 4 of us waiting, me being last. At 4:30 they said there were 2 in front of me..scheduled for 50 min ea..then just after 5 they came rushing in & said there was a change in plans & I was next..they was taking me "now".  Dr Curry came out & spoke to my sister at 5:35 so I assume everything went smoothly. I did well in recovery and they let me leave at 8.  I have soreness in my midsection..seem to be burping alot..but that is better than the pain I have heard many have in their chest/shoulders. I could have had my first pureed meal last night but chose to wait until this morning to have thinned cream of wheat.  I assume I must be swollen because I really have trouble drinking /eating much at a time. But overall...I think I am doing great!  Will update again soon!

Hanging in there....in anticipation.

Apr 28, 2008

Hi..Last Tues was a big day for me.  I had my pre-admission testing in Cinci at the Jewish Hosp.  I had 1 1/2 hrs to spare before my Nutrition class/consent signing at Dr Curry's Office so I went to IHOP.  IHOP has been one of my favorite places to stop at on vacation (none in Columbus)...so this would be my last time to get their country omelette/pancakes breakfast.  Then...lol...I could only eat about 1/3 of each.  The class at Dr C's was very informational..Thank God Erin gave us all the handouts/guide..because I doubt I would have remembered EVERYTHING.  Today is my 7th day on Medifast and YES, I find it as nasty as I have heard.  So far I have not strayed. It is frustrating though because I don't feel as though I have lost anything. My scales broke during my 6 mth diet & I haven't replaced them.  I saw it as a blessing because I was becoming addicted to weighing myself.  The scales at the YMCA don't give a true wt.  So I am going to break down & buy some because ..while I have stuck with it & won't cheat because I understand the importance of shrinking my liver etc...it would be happier if I was seeing results. I have started feeling weak from the lower number of calories.  I am taking a multi-vitamin & have started taking 5000mgs of biotin...because my hair is already thin & I have a fear of losing more. Hopefully these will help. Will Write Soon!

I have "Dates"

Apr 10, 2008

I received a call from Dr Curry's office to schedule my Nutrition Class & Surgery.  My nutrition class is April 21st and my surgery is May 6th.  I am so excited!
The last wk has been a little stressful.  The insurance co has been yanking my chains since 3/19, requesting info they already had then saying it was "duplicate" info when resent.  Then the day after my approval, I read the thread saying Dr Curry is now Out of the Network requiring money on top of the insurance pymt.  I totally understand why he would change his practice being my recent experience with my ins co.  I contacted them and since I was an established patient before the change they are grandfathering me in.  This gives me more respect for him as a dr and his practice.  I can't wait!

FINALLY Approved!!!

Apr 07, 2008

It took them awhile...(lots of conflicting info from the insurance co)...but I am finally approved!!  I am so excited.  Hopefully I will have a surgery date soon.

Update

Mar 21, 2008

Hi.  Thought I'd write an update...My surgeon's office submitted my paperwork to Medical Mutual last Wed (3/12).  I called on Mon 3/17 and they acknowledge it has been received and needs to go to Medical Review.
I went to my PCP yesterday..just in case the ins would come back and say there was a problem with my 6 mth diet (8/21-3/19)..so I wouldn't have to start over.  I lost another 3.4 lbs so I have lost 40.4 lbs since my first appt w him on 8/21 or 48.6 lbs since my Ortho Dr in July.  I am getting so excited/antsy to get this surgery. I pray I receive my approval SOON! !

6 Months Diet is FINALLY Done!

Feb 19, 2008

My 7th appt with my PCP was this morning.  I lost another 3 lbs...for a total of 37 in 6 mths. (45.2 Total....I started my diet one month earlier.)  He said he would have my letter and add'l info sent to Dr Curry's office by tomorrow afternoon.  This is starting to get exciting!  I sure hope everything is in order and the insurance company approves my surgery.  I am so ready to get banded!

5 Months Down...One to Go!!!

Jan 23, 2008

I finished my 5th mth of my Supervised diet on Monday.  Only lost 2.2# this month...but that gives me a total of 34#'s for the 5 mths.  I had actually started dieting a month before so my unofficial loss is 42#'s.  I also had my sleep study this mth and was diagnosed with mild apnea so I have one of those wonderful CPAP machines I have heard so much about.  It seems things are starting to come together.  I am starting to get excited!

MERRY CHRISTMAS to me!!!

Dec 21, 2007

What a month it has been!  I had a breast cancer scare after going for my mammogram.  It included extra testing and eventually a biopsy.  I had my monthly dr appt this morning (lost an add'l 5 #...yeah!!! for a total of 31.8#).  We discussed the tests & I explained I was waiting for the biopsy results.  He said he would have one of his girls look on the hospital's site to see if the results were posted.  Within 15 min of me leaving, he called and said it was benign.  Between my quest for the band and this, my PCP has really stepped up for me.  I sent an email to Dr C to see if it this will delay or effect my impending surgery. (He replied quickly as always...said it is no problem since it is benign.)  Hope you all have just as MERRY of a Christmas!!  God Bless You All!
