Spoke with Surgery Scheduler

Dec 14, 2007

I called the surgery scheduler earlier today with a question.  My husband needs to have some rather extensive dental work done over the next couple of months, so I called the scheduler to check on how far out she is scheduling so I could tell the dentist what months are completely clear for him to get his stuff done.

As it turns out, January and February are completely booked and she is currently filling slots in March .  I was really hoping for January or February at the latest...darn it.

BUT, on the bright side, she did say that I could expect a call from her sometime next week with my official surgery date.  Yay!

Just wish it wasn't so far out.  There is a gal at my work who used the same surgeon, had her ORIENTATION in Nov 2006 and her surgery in DECEMBER 2006.  Go figure.

Chart Sent to Surgery Scheduler

Dec 11, 2007

I emailed Tristan today to find out whether Dr. Gluck had the opportunity to complete the final review on my chart last week.  She replied letting me know that he did have a chance to review it and everything looks good.

Therefore, my chart is now "officially" with the surgery scheduler and I have to sit back and wait for the scheduler to call me with my surgery date...waiting is definitely not one of my strengths, so I hope she calls me soon!

WooHoo!

Chart Sent for Final Review

Dec 03, 2007

I received the following email from Tristan (Authorization Specialist, Life Without Limits) today:

Angela:

I have recieved all of your reports and sent your chart on to DR. Gluck for final review. Your next step is being scheduled for surgery.  You should hear from our surgery scheduler in roughly 2-3 weeks due to her making sure that everything is confirmed (your surgery date with the hospital, pre- op blood work, phone registration time and date) before making the call to you regarding surgery date and all other appointments.

What can I say, other than Bring it On!

Psych Eval Cleared

Dec 02, 2007

Had my telephone conference today with Dr. Judy Rocap (Lighthouse Professional Clinic; Ludington, MI) and she has cleared me for surgery.  Told me that I am perfectly normal and should be able to handle the various issues that can crop up after surgery as well as follow the guidelines that I will be given.

I didn't have any doubt that I would be cleared - but still nice to have it official.

Labs & Upper GI

Nov 29, 2007

Went and had my fasting labs and Upper GI done this morning.  Labs went well, the phlebotomist only needed one poke to get 4 or 5 vials of blood.  Yea!

The Upper GI was a new experience for me - not bad, just new.  I had to drink this really fizzy liquid (about two mouthfuls) really quickly and then make sure not to  burp.  This makes your stomach fill with air and then they have you take a few sips of barium which provides a high contrast  to the air in your stomach.  The result of this is a highly defined image of your esophogus, stomach, duodenum, and the initial portion of your intestines.

Neither the fizzy drink nor the barium "milkshake" were bad, but nor were they great either.  But they were definitely tolerable and worth the effort if it gets me closer to surgery.  The hardest part of it all was trying not to burp when your stomach feels so full of air!

Initial Surgery Consult & Nutrition Class

Nov 19, 2007

I had my surgical consult today with Dr. Gluck (Life Without Limits; Muskegon, MI) and liked everything I heard.

Dr. Gluck was referred to me by an employee at my work who had him as her surgeon for RNY.  She couldn't recommend him highly enough and after doing my research I would have to agree that he is a very skilled surgeon who really cares about his patients.

After reviewing my medical history and documentation, Dr. Gluck feels that I will be a good candidate for RNY.  He has ordered some bloodwork and an Upper GI, and then we should be able to get a surgery date scheduled...

Oh, I also attended my first nutrition class this morning as well.  This is held at Dr. Gluck's office and gives an overview of the entire nutritional program structure for both before and after surgery.

Psych Eval Appointment

Nov 15, 2007

I had my psych eval today and everything went okay.  The psychiatrist, Dr. Judy Rocap (Lighthouse Professional Clinic; Ludington, Michigan), said that she would need to score the tests and so on to be sure, but everything looks as if I will be cleared for surgery.  She will call me to go over the official results, and will also copy the report to me as well.

One more hurdle jumped....

Primary Appt & Referral

Nov 11, 2007

I met with my primary physician, Dr. Connie Strbich, today to ask for an updated letter of referral for WLS.  She had no problem whatsoever in updating my letter that she had done in 2003 and sending it on to Dr. Gluck.  She has always been in full support of my seeking WLS.

Just a note to those of you who may be looking for a primary physician in the West Michigan area (Muskegon/Oceana/Mason county areas):

Dr Connie at Hart Family Medical is just awesome!!  I have been a patient of hers since late 2002 or early 2003 around there.  She is the only doctor I have ever went to that I felt comfortable with, who takes the time to listen, and whom I can talk to about anything.  She genuinely cares for her patients and can relate to them at their level rather than keeping the "I'm the Doctor, your the Patient" demeanor.

If you are looking for a doctor and live within a reasonable distance of Hart, Michigan, then I would strongly recommend that you give her a try!

Fast Tracking...Hopefully!

Nov 04, 2007

I called Dr. Gluck's office today and scheduled my initial consultation for November 20th.  I can't wait to get things rolling...

After getting off the phone with Dr. Gluck's Office, I called Hart Family Medical (Hart, Michigan) to make an appointment with my primary, Dr. Connie Strbich, to discuss my desire to pursue WLS again.  I set an appointment to meet with Dr. Connie on November 12th.

In order to put things on the fast track as much as possible, I also called Lighthouse Professional Clinic in Ludington where my youngest daughter goes for counseling appointments and scheduled a psych eval for November 16th....

Can you tell that once I make up my mind, I go full steam ahead?

Life Without Limits WLS Seminar

Oct 31, 2007

I attended the informational seminar this evening at Mercy General Health Partners in Muskegon.  Both David and Mom came with me.  David was there for support, and Mom was there to try and have some of her concerns alleviated about my undergoing surgery.  Like any other Mom, she is worried about something happening to one of her kids.  I'm more worried about something happening to me if I don't have surgery.

There was a huge crowd at the seminar, so I didn't really have a chance to speak with Dr. Gluck one-on-one fo more than a couple minutes or so.  However, the seminar was full of helpful information and each member of the Dr.'s multidisciplinary team led a portion of the presentation.  At the end of the seminar there was the opportunity to sign up for an individual consult.  However, David had to get back home so that he could be to work on time that evening.
