WLS 3 years post-op

Oct 06, 2009

Today I am officially 3 years post-op.. I am currently at 141 pounds.  It seems that it has been a long time since I had my surgery.  I feel great. I have had a tummy tuck so far and that has made such a huge difference in how I feel about myself.  I am planning a few more procedures and I hope to have them done before the end of the year. Hopefully as a christmas present.  Lots of WOW moments in the last several years. Lots of moments where I think people are ignorant.  I get alot of "Wow, I would have never guessed you had a gastric bypass. You look great. You don't look like you were ever BIG."  Seriously??? What is this supposed to mean? Does this mean that when I weighed 256#, I had a certain apperance about myself? I have had a few struggles in my post-op years. Everyday holds something different. Even 3 years out I still find some food challenges. I even still have days when I can't eat. I do however, keep track of what I eat and keep track of how much I weigh.  Not in an obsessive way, just in a self-conscious way. Some people are still ignorant enough to tell me  that I choose "the easy way out".  My response is always, "Really, how do you figure it's easy? Enlighten me with your knowledge." Until someone has walked in the shoes of an overweight individual, they have no right to pass judgement.  Overall, thus far, the journey has been pleasant and eventful to say the least. I have had a very supportive ring of friends and family... And God has been at the head of my journey... God Bless and good luck to all who have had and are contemplating having surgery.  This has been one of the greatest decisions I have made in my life............
