I’m a 28 year old stay at home mom to four kids. I've struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. I was somewhat big as a child, got chunkier as a teenager, and when I became pregnant with my first child at 17 years old I gained about 90 pounds and became morbidly obese and it has been a huge struggle since then.  I gained more and more weight with each child. I've tried countless times and countless ways to lose weight- Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers (many many times), Richard Simmons, nutritionist designed plans, South Beach, Overeaters Anonymous, diet pills, Curves, and the list goes on.  My weight has gone up and down for the past 10 years- I have managed to lose and re-gain 50 pounds or more several times- and it has always come back. I hit my highest weight of 316 pounds (I'm 5' 9" tall) in January of 2004 when my youngest child was about 7 months old. I started to look into weight loss surgery at that point but did not pursue it then because I was still breastfeeding. When my daughter weaned at 28 months old, and then yet another failed attempt at Weight Watchers, I started looking into surgery again.

I made my first phone call to my doctor about the surgery in June of 2006.  After meetings, waiting, paperwork, appointments, and more paperwork (and a couple more appointments), I met with my surgeon on October 2.  I was approved by insurance after the first request.  My laprasopic RNY is scheduled for November 27, 2006.

I found it. The 'before before' picture.  The picture of me on the left was taken at Christmas, 2003.  I am at my heighest weight ever,316 pounds.  No, I'm not pregnant, even though I could pass for it.  The skirt I'm wearing is elastic waist 3X, because at the time none of my size 24 button/zip jeans would fit me.  I was into 26+ all elastic waist pants.  I was exhausted.  I was obsessed with food.  I was a mess.  The picture on the right was taken at the end of May, 2007, 6 months after my surgery.  The dress is a size 14, weight 189 pounds.  I am 127 pounds lighter in that photo.
