Update

Sep 24, 2019

I am more than a year out from my revision from sleeve to Gastric bypass and I have had a great year health wise. I don't regret my decision at all. I have gained a few pounds but overall I am still in the process and loving life.

WTW? I wasn't prepared for this.

Feb 20, 2018

I am at a loss.  I had my revision almost 6 weeks ago and I have been eating regular foods for a little under three weeks. I literally have to stop myself from eating after a few bites. It's crazy that I am able to eat more a one sitting now than before my revision. Before surgery I could eat 1/2 of chicken breast (palm sized) and I would be hurting. Now I can eat half and feel just fine. No excess saliva, no sensation of fullness, nothing. I must say I have been purposely trying different meats to see how my body would respond. I couldn't eat beef before, but I can now. I couldn't eat hot dogs before but I can now. I couldn't eat crackers or bread before but yep I can now. I haven't eaten these things in years and I don't plan on returning to old eating habits. I guess I just never expected these types of changes. Some of these things it took me 6 months to a year to be able to eat and some I still could not eat after almost 4 years like breads and crackers.  I will really have to stay focused more so now than before. Has anyone else who had the revision from sleeve to bypass have this happen?

Thank God for good days

Feb 11, 2018

I am 26 days post op. I have been recovering very well. I am very thankful because I understand that it's not everyone's experience. I had some serious constipation issues last week when I started eating regular foods. I spent $75 at CVS in the laxative isle trying to resolve it on my own. I got smart really quick after nothing was moving and called my doctor. He told me to take stool softeners twice a day plus Miralax twice a day and suppositories for instant relief if needed. Well let me tell you it worked! I am so relieved that my system seems to be back to normal. I pray things continue to go well. I can only take it one day at a time. I am not having any GERD issues at all. Just wanted to update those following me. You can do this.

Feeling Great 10 days post revision!

Jan 23, 2018

It has been about 10 days since my revision from sleeve to bypass. The surgery went well. I had minimal pain following the procedure. I was up walking around about 5 hours following surgery. I was able to get my fluids in without problems. I was released after 2 days. My nurses were really impressed at how I was able to stay hydrated. I am not bragging, but just relieved that it was not nearly as bad as I had envisioned it would be. So for anybody afraid to move forward with their revision it was well worth it. I have not had any vomiting  and I feel so much better. I am staying hydrated at home, and continuing to walk a little at a time. I am so thankful I moved forward with getting this done. I am 15 lbs down since surgery.

I did it?

Jan 17, 2018

I finally had my revision surgery after cancelling twice. My surgery was Monday and I am recovering better than I ever expected. I'm off of the pain pump and I have walked 3 times per day and getting ready to go home. More to come. Thanks for the support.

Only 5 more days until revision

Jan 10, 2018

You guys would not believe I called and rescheduled my procedure for February 19th. I started my preop diet, my husband submitted to be off, and my mother-in-law is scheduled to come on Saturday. I got so afraid of having this done on Monday that I cancelled for the 15th. If you have read my prior post this is Dejavue from my scheduled revision surgery January 2017. I cancelled my surgery for similar reasons last year.

Last night I vomited again in my sleep and started coughing to clear my airway. I then went back to sleep realizing how common this has become for me. I swallowed my pride today and discussed my fears with my husband and my doctor's staff. I asked if I can continue forward with the same date if it was available and if not I would take that as a sign that it's not the right time for me. Well they were still able to do the surgery on the 15th just at a later time. So I am taking that as my sign from God that I need to move forward.

My biggest fear is vitamin difficiency, hair loss, and complications from the bypass. My sleeve procedure went so smooth and was such a success for me that I can't imagine anything else. I guess my fear comes from reading the complications of others. Any encouragement would be great as I navigate through these next 5 days.

Revision surgery date 1/15/18

Jan 03, 2018

I made it through another military move and started the process over again for my revision SVG to RNY. The doctor I chose in the area was not a good choice, unfortunately it took me several months to realize it. I am thankful that I was able to talk with my insurance company about my concerns and was allowed to go back to my doctor who was previously scheduled to do the procedure. The only downside is he is about 4 hours away and we have to drive back and forth for the appts and the surgery. I am so confident in him as a surgeon that I know it will be well worth it. I started my two week preop diet yesterday and I am scheduled for my revision January 15th. I am a little nervous, but coming back on this site and reading about the journey of others has helped calm my nerves. Due to foot surgery in October and still not being released to work or exercise I now weigh 230 lbs. So that's a total gain prepregnancy of 44lbs. Being back on this liquid diet is helping me to understand how my weight gain has occurred. Dealing with the GERD with salty carbs and not exercising equals weight gain. It's time to get mentally and physically and emotionally back on track. I'm ready to hit the reset button and get back to reaching my goals.

Postponed Revision

Jun 04, 2017

I haven't been on the site in about 4 months. A lot has been going on to include a recent move at the end of April to Killeen, TX. That is one of the reasons for postponing my revision. Unfortunately since I am in a new area I was told by my insurance that I would have to start the process over again. I am now having second thoughts especially with my daughter being only 17 months and my husband's work schedule. I am fearful of leaving her for an extended amount of time and to be honest I have gotten so relaxed in my daily routine that I am also afraid of the restrictions again. I hope to start the process over soon and pray that some of my anxiety will be resolved.

Help revision scheduled 1/31/17

Jan 06, 2017

I am extremely nervous about having this revision to bypass from sleeve. I rescheduled my procedure last month due to my anxiety about it and now I am just so on the fence. On one hand I know this will help my reflux but I am 3 yrs post op and this will be like starting over with learning my new tool. (Revision is due to severe acid reflux).

2 Years 7 Months and 1 Pregnancy Post Op

Aug 29, 2016

It's hard to believe that so many changes have occurred in my life in such a short amount of time. I still stand firm to my decision I made to have the Gastric sleeve in January 2014. I have a wonderful and healthy daughter and feel extremely blessed. I would be lying if I said being pregnant didn't resurface some bad eating habits that I am still working through. Although I only gained about 23 lbs with my pregnancy, the stress from the 2 month hospital stay and surgery for my daughter after that caused me to add an additional 8 lbs. I am slowly getting back to the basics in my eating habits but still struggling to completely remove the carbs. I have started back exercising and this helps. I am currently 30 lbs from goal weight. I am currently being evaluated for a revision due to severe Gerd. I don't want to rely solely on that. I hope to get back on track prior to that. I will continue to keep pushing forward.
