My story began when my brothers journey on the super obesity highway ended. My brother died November 20 2006 of complications related to him being 500 + lbs He was not only Super Obese but clinically depressed which was left untreated, mainly because of my brother's feelings about mental illness, he refused to seek help with his depression and his consant overeating. I was so focused on his weight and health problems that I wasnt thinking about my own health and weight, because when I stood next to him I was the skinny one but that was a illusion and it took him dying for me to see all 293lbs of me. Between the aching knees and the shortness of breath I knew that I was on the same highway that my brother was on. For a long time I thought I could handle my weight by diet and excercise but the diet failed and exercise became almost impossible with the aching knees I had. Thats when I came to the realization that I needed permanent help so I decided on WLS and hope that my insurance would pay for LAP BAND but I would have had the RNY but I didnt want such a drastic operation. To my Surprise I was Approved for LAP BAND on 2/25/07 and had my surgery on 03/08/07 and now 'm 3 days post-op and 6 lbs lighter!!
