Hi all!

My name is Ashley and I'm a student at UC Davis...will be graduating in June! Yay! I've struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember..tried all the fad diets, exercised vigorously...but the weight always comes back.  I'm seriously considering weight loss surgery and am desperate for advice on whether or not i should go ahead with ith andwhich type of surgery to have.  I became very sick a few years ago while studying abroad in London and had a whole bunch of stomach ailments for a good 4 years including terrible IBS, acid reflux....etc... I also have high cholesterol and my blood pressure is getting up there.  I know that surgery isn't a quick fix but I feel like I've exhausted all my other options.  I DO NOT want to put myself back in the position I was a year or two ago.  I haven't had any IBS symptoms for about a year now but still suffer from acid reflux, depression and high cholesterol.  I don't want to have the surgery if I'm going to feel sick all the time as a result.  I was always afraid to go out or go on trips before in fear of getting sick and being stuck somewhere. I'm looking for any advice I can get on how you feel after surgery and exactly how restrictive your diet is.  I've heard that caffeinated beverages are a 'no' along w/gum and alcohol....all of which I could do without but I imagine it's very hard at first to be so strict on yourself.  My parents are also very concerned for my health because they don't want to see me sick and upset all the time like I was before.  I want this surgery to help me. In addition to all of this, my mom and uncle both have type 1 diabetes and there's a large chance that I could get type 2 if I keep going in this direction.  So the surgery would greatly help avoid that happening.  It's gotten to the point that I just feel disgusting about myself, I want to lose weight so badly because I want to look and feel better, I want to be able to enjoy my adult life, and I don't want to get any life threatening diseases such as diabetes or heart disease which also runs in my family.  I look forward to hearing from you all, best of luck to everyone! Hope to hear from you soon!!
