I'm getting kind of tired of this...

Jan 10, 2012

not losing... it's really annoying... i've only lost 35lbs since surgery and i'm 5 months out.... i'm not sure if that's because i started at a lower weight than most (surgery day i was 250lbs) or what... I'm doing everything i'm told... maybe the sleeve wasn't right for me..?

who knows. i probably am just being eager and it'll come off eventually.

anyways. i just wanted to let everyone know i changed the URL to my blog. it's not what i ahve posted in my last blog post. now it's

www.ourfightnow.blogspot.com

i'm not really focusing on the surgery though.. i have a few posts about it, but mostly it's about teenagersand children.. obesity.. insulin resistance and other metabolic disorders... in minors. there really isn't much out there about it at all. I figure, i've been living with this my whole life. i've seen too many doctors to count about it all.. i enjoy learning about it and researching it.. why not blog about it for other people to see?who knows who it could help.

alright. have agreat day.

update.

Aug 14, 2011

the last post was when i got approved in general to even be seen by the bariatric team... Now i'm officially scheduled for surgery. I will be having the VSG on August 19th. I've been on the pre-op modified liquid diet, instructed by my dietitian, since august... 7th. So its been about a week now. And i'll be on it untill the day before surgery.by 'modified', they mean.. i'm allowed 400 callories a day. in a light meal or some vegetables or soup here and there.. Stuff like that. So what my day usually consists of:

2-3 protein shakes. (pure protein is my favorite... the most tolerable.)
64oz of sugar free liquids/water. (water, propel zero, crystal light, sugar free popsicles.)
one lean cuisine or smart ones frozen meal. they're below 300 calories a piece.
Some fresh vegetables with a tiny bit of light ranch dressing as a snack.
a yoplait light yogurt.

^.^ Thats about that.sometimes i'll have a string cheese, aswell.

I've lost 2lbs on this diet. i'm now 250lbs.

I went to a pulmonary appointment the other day.. They were not aware my surgery was already scheduled, and wanted to start me on a cpapp machine for my sleep apnea. But they said since surgerys in ess than a week, they're not gonna start me on it. I have to do another sleep study about 2 months after surgery though. and if my sleep apnea is still as bad, i have to start it.

I started this journey back last year.. i never actually got a refferal sent to cincinnati childrens hospital, untill the end of march 2011.. but i started looking into things towards the end of 2010.. my highest wait was about 278lbs and i'm 5'3".. my bmi was around 49. My bmi is now around 43-44, and i'm 250 pounds. I have never done that well on my own.. ever.. untill this surgery motivated me.. cause i knew if i gained weight while in the process, they wuoldnt want to do the surgery for me.

Its crazy what the right motivation can do for you.

Most my family is not supportive. I've been very open about it all on the internet. i have an album on facebook called 'my journey' that has pictures and captions and stuff explaining things i've been going through. testing i've had done. etc.. I know people that have looked into wls but never knew much about it or if itd be rightfor them, or they're afriad of the process.. i figure maybe theres more people. so i started a blog (www.justashley1637.blogspot.com) and started posting on facebook.. i figure maybe what i'm leanring will help someone else. and i'm all about that.

Theres not much online about teenagers having weight loss surgery.. I'm turning 16 next week.. August 22nd. I was looking and couldnt fnid much. I was so happy to find out that the nations leading center for bariatric surgery in teenagers, is no more than an hour and a half away from me. Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medial Center.

I got approved!

Apr 12, 2011

Cincinnati Childrens accepted me for Teen weight loss surgery. I'm sooo happy. I know theres a lot of controversy over teens getting this type of surgery, but I really hope research continues and I'm happy to be a part of it. It could really be a great tool in achieving long term weight loss, to give younger people a fresh start, the same way it does for anyone else.

<3

I cannot express how happy I am right now. I got approved after the first letter to the insurance, aswell. ahhh.

Haha. I'm a little nervous about the protein shake thing... thats pretty much all they say i'll be allowed to have besides water and crystal light and stuff, for a longgg time. most protein shakes ive tried are nasty. but, i dont care. if i gotta do it. i gotta do it.
