9/13/06 - Today I went to a seminar held by Dr. Kim at North Hills Medical about WLS. I also turned in my packet that his office had mailed me.
9/20/06 - I went to see my PCP to see if he thought I was medically clear to have WLS. He thought I would be a great canidate.
9/21/06 - I had my appointment to see the dietitian.
9/22/06 - I called to get in to see a psychiatrist but no one had anything available till late October. Then Dr. Adamiec called me and told me she had someone cancel an appointment for 9/23 and I jumped and told her to write me in.
9/23/06 - I had my psych eval done. Dr. Adamiec was great !!!
9/25/06 - My PCP signed me off as medically clear to have surgery. Dr. Kim's office got fax that I was medically clear....YEE HAW
9/26/06 - I emailed Kathy at Dr. Kim's office and she replied to me that she has yet to receive the report from the dietitian or the psych eval.... Oops.. Kathy just told me she got the psych eval in and now we just wait for the dietitans report.
9/27/06 - Kathy at Dr. Kim's office emailed me at work and told me they received the dietitian's report.... WHEW
9/28/06 - I have a surgery date !!!!!!!!!!!! Surgery is scheduled for.. ok (penciled in) for October 26,2006......YEE HOOOO. Kathy said she is submitting everything to my insurance company. At first she said the insurance company was giving her the run around and said we did not need prior authorization. She said she even called 2 times to get different people and they all told her the same thing. Pam called and finally they told Pam where to submit my paperwork to and now we wait....
10/3/06 - I might have a surgery date but I am still waiting for approval from the insurance company. I feel bad for asking Kathy at Dr. Kim's office a bunch of questions but she has been so great .... She is the most patient person, Thank you Kathy.
I am to start the liquid diet on October 12,2006. 9 days till I start the liquid diet and 23 days till surgery... I am getting nervous about this. I want someone to pinch me cause I cant believe this is really happening. I have tried since 2001 to have this surgery but it seems like everytime I start to look into it there has been some kind of exclusion in my insurance. But so far so good... I just pray things go as planned. Well I better get back to work now....
Okay I am back.... Kathy with Dr. Kim's office just called me at work and said my insurance company just called them and they told her I was APPROVED !!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything is OFFICIAL... My surgery date is in ink and not in pencil..... Make way cause here I come !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10/06/06 - Well just 5 more days that I can eat regular foods. I am feeling a little anxious right about now..... I cant wait to be of NORMAL size..... I go for pre op on 10/13/06 and see what time surgery is scheduled for at that time.... I cant wait... Well I will keep everyone posted....
10/10/06 - Well just 1 more day of regular food.... then it is 2 weeks of fun liquids....
10/13/06 - Yesterday was my 1st day of my liquid diet and boy was that a tough one...But hey I lived and it really was not all that bad other than going to the restroom more than normal...Today is day 2 and I go for my pre-op visit at the hospital and then to a class for the doctor....Just 13 more days till surgery........Went to the hospital for pre-op and everything went well. Except for when they had to draw blood.. got stuck 2 times for that and that was not so bad EXCEPT for when we had WLS class ... I was stuck 6 times for them to do a artial blood gas test..... WHEW that was a doosey of a test !!!! I felt like I was going to pass out.
10/18/06 - I met with Dr. Kim about my surgery today and he just wanted to go over with me the complications and wanted to know if I had any questions for him. Well I said no questions just ready to have this done....
10/19/06 - Wow how time flies when your having all this nice liquid stuff ... It has been 8 days now that I have been on my liquid diet and at first it was hard watching people eat and all I could do was drink..Well today is day 8 and so far so good... I am down 8 lbs so far and surgery is in 7 days.... I AM SOOOO EXCITED......
10/24/06 - Well I only have 2 days till surgery....
10/27/06 - I am home... I had surgery on 10/26/06 and I got home late last night. I have 6 inscions and the ones that hurt the most are the ones where the port is. I had trouble sleeping and it is very hard getting up. So far so good... I started out at 248 lbs and yesterday when they weighed me I was 232 lbs... So now I am on my way to the losing end of things.....
11/3/06 - Well today I am 1 week and 1 day out. I am having pain every so often when I breathe in and out. But the nurse told me it is the gas from surgery. So I hope that goes away like real soon !!!! That is very painful .. I dont know what I weigh as of yet, my doctors appointment is not till next Friday. I am kind of curious as to how much I have lost.I do get in all 50 g of protien and lots of fluids, well you know being on this liquid thing after surgery for 2 weeks.... Next Thursday I graduate to mashed potatoes and applesauce... WHOO HOO... I will try to post a new photo on here later on tonight so everyone can see if there is any difference since my last photo that was taken on 10/14/06. Well I will do this later.... So until then I will keep things up to date as much as I can.....
11/14/06 - Ok I tried to post a new picture but I could not get the camera to work right so I will try this again tonight. I went to see the doctor to weigh in and since my last visit with him I have lost 15 lbs... But when I first looked into surgery I weighed in at 248 lbs. And now I am at 223 lbs. My clothes are fitting a bit loose on me and it feels great... Also before going to this visit I was at work and I started to have chest pains and could not figure out why... So Dr. Kim told me to go to the ER and he called the doctor there at the hospital and they ran a series of tests... and found nothing was wrong... My next appointment is in Dec. so I will try to update once I weigh in again....
11/27/06 - Well I cant sleep and I have a real hard time swallowing chicken and the turkey from Thanksgiving did not go down well at all.... Everytime I swallowed the meat I chewed up very well it burned going down and then I felt like I had to throw it back up. I dont know what that is supposed to mean? I guess that is a question for doc to answer. Other than that I feel ok... I dont know if anyone else feels this away or not, but when I look in the mirror I still see the same old FAT me.... I dont look like I am losing any weight? Again is that normal ?
01/10/07- Sorry I have been very busy here lately and havent been able to update as much as I would like too. I am able to eat a little more and I can tolerate certain foods. Before surgery I was wearing a size 20 jeans and I am now in 16's.... I have a doctors appointment coming up soon and I will post what I weigh in at that time....
08/02/08- I am very bad at this... I have no excuses.... I am wearing a size 14 jeans and I feel great. I have had a couple of set backs this last year so I have not lost very much weight. But I am back and I am on a mission. I am finally under the 200 mark. Thank God for that one. I am also in the process of being a mother again... Oh but not my body... I have a wonderful girl that is carring our baby. So I will talk to everyone soon.......
