December 30, 2007 No longer overweight

Dec 29, 2007

Hey guys,

The day is finally here and my BMI is now in the healthy range.  I am not sure how much more weight I would like to lose.  I went to the doctor the other day and they said I had already lost 86% of the weight they expected me to lose.  They said most people who have the surgery normally don't reach that level until 1 year to 18 months after surgery.  This weight loss didn't come easy since I have been pretty sick for 2 months with abdominal pain.  I had my gall bladder taken out over Thanksgiving but I am still having issues.  I am scheduled for an endoscopy on Monday to see if there is anything going on down there that they can't find.  I hope they find out what it is soon.  I am so tired of abdominal pain and dry heaving.  I thought that I wouldn't be making any New Year's resolutions regarding my weight this year, but I think I will still make one.  I would like to physically be healthy.  I have not worked out as much as I would have liked since my surgery.  SO that is my goal in 2008 is to get in shape.

I have been very bad in not updating my information.  I am now down to 155 lbs which is really great.  The only problem with rapid weight loss is there can be other problems that come up.  I started having abdominal pain at the beginning of October.  They told me at the ER that I had gastritis and put me on meds for that.  Well, less than 2 weeks later I ended up in the ER again with severe abdominal pain again.  I was then told that I had an ulcer and they put me on meds for that.  I started having pain more frequently so my doctor ordered an ultrasound as well as an endoscopy.  After the ultrasound, we found out I had gall stones and that my gall bladder needed to come out.  I was going to try and wait until January to take care of this but that didn't happen.  The Wednesday night before Thanksgiving I ended up in the ER again and was admitted into the hospital and my surgeon had to perform emergency surgery.  I am now recovering and feeling a lot better.

I haven't updated in awhile so here is how I am doing.  I am down to 170 from 261.5.  I am thrilled most of the time.  I am still having to deal with not be able to have comfort food but besides that things are fine.  I have been buying clothes in normal sizes and not having to go into the large ladies section.  That has been the best part.  It has been a welcome change to walk into Old Navy and be able to buy clothes.  I even walked into a levi store and bought skinny jeans off the rack which is great.  Anyway, I will give an update again soon hopefully before a month is up.

Well I am not as diligent updating my information as others but here is what is going on with me.  I went for my 6 month follow up on Wed, July 18 and I have lost a total of 82 pounds so far.  I forgot to take my measurements so I have decided not to bother with that.  I went out shopping for clothes and could actually fit in an XL shirt and size 16 pants.  I started in a 26/28 top which is usually a 2X or 3X depending on where you go and I was in 24 or 26 pants.  It was nice to go into Lane Bryant's and not find much that would fit since it was too big.  I do have to go back in and have a barium swallow since I can eat more food than most people who have had this surgery.  I will post an update on that once I have an answer.  I am now only 30 pounds from my goal weight.  I was gripping about not losing as much weight as I had thought I would by this point but my nutritionist said I was already at 60% of my body weight lost and that most people do not lost that until between 6 months-12 months.  Anyway, I will happy now and feeling good.  Lastly, my BMI of 29.9 means I am no longer obese.  I have moved into the overweight catagory.

Well I haven't updated here in a  couple of months.  I have been a litte discouraged due to not losing much weight since my 3 month checkup.  I have now lost a little over 70 pounds.  I am going to have to increase my working out and protein and hope that helps get this started again.  I know I will meet my goal sometime before my 1 year anniversary but I am getting very impatient.  But that too shall place.

April 15, 2007 Update

Apr 14, 2007

It has been a month since I last got an update out here.  I am down almost 60 pounds in 3 months.  I am feeling great so far.  Over the past few months I have gone through some doubts about having the surgery.  But I think I am coming to terms with the way I was feeling.  I have been so mad since the surgery.  I have been mad with my job, my husband, and myself.  It is getting better though.  I have started eating basically the same things everyday since I have had good luck with them.  For breakfast I eat either a South Beach breakfast bar or a bowl of the Weight control oatmeal.  For lunch I will have either some sort of bowl of beans or chili.  Then for dinner I eat 6 boiled shrimp with 3 perogies.  Sometimes I can eat all of this and sometimes not.  For snacks I have cheez-it crackers, any of the 100 calorie snacks such as oreo crisps, chips ahoy crisps, pringles, cheese balls, or cheetos.  In the past I would eat a whole party bag.  Now these little bags do the trick when I need a snack.  When I am at home I will snack on the lowfat cheese cubes.  I am so glad I had the surgery because I am starting to feel really good.  My 3 week follow up is Thursday the 19th and I am really looking forward to it.

Hello all.  It has been several weeks since I gave you guys an update.  Everything has been going fine.  I went to an awards banquet for my company and it went really well.  They had boiled shrimp so I had 4 of those and that went down well.  For dinner there was some ham, pork, and some grilled vegetables.  I did great with all of that.  So I am doing very  well since the surgery.  I have lost about 45 pounds since surgery.  Tomorrow will be 2 months since the surgery and I think that amount of weight loss is great.  A part of me was wishing it would be faster, but I think health wise it is better slower.  I will post a picture once I get down to 200 lbs.  That way I am 1/2 way to my goal.

Well I got on the scale today and it made me feel really good.  I am only looking at each 10 pound mark.  I am now 226.5 lbs done from 261.5.  I am so excited.  I have to start walking more but I was having a pain in my abdomen for about 2 weeks.  I was walking prior to the pain coming on.  As of 2 days ago the pain seems to have disappeared.  I will start doing my walking more.  I have gotten sick the past 2 Fridays.  Big Time NO NO....do not drink anything with your meals.  I was eating shrimp and scallops for lunch that first Friday and I took a big gulp not even thinking and I got so sick.  Then this past Friday I was eating Fat Free Pretzels and I either ate too fast or too much.  I am not sure.  The dumping is not fun and I wouldn't recommend it.  I will update again soon.

Well today is Monday and almost 4 weeks since I had my RNY.  I have lost 23 lbs which is remarkable.  I just wish the scale would move faster, but I know I must be patient.  I had a horrible weekend I started getting a pain my left abdomen.  Boy did I get scared.  I finally broke down and called my doctor on Saturday.  He thought it could be constipation so he told me to drink that nasty magnesium citrate that I had to drink the day before surgery.  The worst part was when you have this surgery you can't chug down that stuff.  That was the worst.  Anyway, that didn't work and I was still having problems.  I called my doctor and again and he suggested the ER.  So that is where I went.  They put an IV in and took xrays.  Then did a cat scan.  They said the surgery site looked great which was a welcome relief.  The end result was I have a cyst on my ovaries which is 5.6 cm.

Let's talk about the new eating.  SO far so good.  The first day of food intake I had the following

Lunch and snacks was Wendy's chili
DInner Meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

Day Two:

Breakfast:  Clam Chowder
Snack:  Saltines
Lunch:  Baked Salmon and lima beans
Snack:  Sugar Free Creamy Caramel pudding
Dinner:  Baked Salmon and lima beans

Day Three:

Breakfast:  NONE
Lunch:  NONE
I was in the ER during most of this.
Dinner:  Meatloaf
Snack:  Meatloaf

Day Four:
Breakfast:  Lowfat Cottage Cheese and strawberries
Snack:  Baked Cheez-its
Lunch:  Chicken Ceasar Wrap by South Beach Diet
Snack:  Chicken Ceasar Wrap by South Beach Diet with the sugar free jello
Dinner:  Lima Beans

I am really surprised that I am having no difficulties eating any meats or foods yet.  The nutritionist said most people will have problem with chicken.  I have had no nausea or any type of reaction from eating.  So far so good.
