recovery and update

Jun 23, 2010

I made it through my surgery and hospital stay...I strongly encourage those going in for surgery to remember lip balm.  I've had my ups and downs going through recovery and yes, the 3 week stall is completely real.  Not sure why it happens but once you hit that 3 week mark just don't even bother to look at your scale for at least a week and a half.  I've become a scaleaholic so that part was difficult.  I had one moment  after surgery where I looked at my Mom and said "what in the hell did I do to myself" and thank goodness that feeling didn't last long.  I'm losing about a pound every day or two but I'm honestly exhaused 90% of the time and my sleep schedule is wacked.  I'm so tired that I can't's that for nuts?!  I think that I'm losing weight at a fast rate and my body just isn't keeping up energy wise.  Taking my vitamins but again no help in the energy department.  I've learned about slime or foamies LOL and nope, that isn't something I want to repeat.  All in all I'm very pleased with my vsg, just wish I felt better and had more energy.  I still have pain in the mid stomach area and it's sensitive to the touch.  Not sure if that's normal or just something weird with me.  I've also had the dry heaves which isn't fun.  Caused me to turn around and go back home while driving to work.  I don't know if I have a bug or if it was due to exhaustion.  When I went into my surgeon for my one month post op there wasn't anyone there to run the machine that would allow me to actually look at my stomach.  I figured that would be standard procedure during that check up but my Dr. promised that next time I come in I will get to see it....when they did the upper GI in the hospital to check for a leak I was pretty well drugged up so I don't remember a lot.  I went in for surgery on a Monday morning and was relased Wednesday afternoon.  The liquid diet sucks but remeber that it too will pass.
