Day of surgery: Pain Control of upmost importance. Surgery went perfect according to surgeon with minimal scar tissue. Gas pain. On liquid elixir for home pain meds. No nausea. Gas pain in shoulders is awful. Had to lay on chair with ottoman for sleep as I couldn't lay flat. Husband has to lift me up from sofa with arms.

Day post op 1 Pain control most important. Lots of gas pain but in both shoulders and belly. (Bypass was just belly, felt like I couldn't bend). Incision pain hurts. 5 incisions, different place than bypass but they look okay. One incision, I'm assuming the port, hurts the worst, feels raw. Taking pain meds. ATC. Didn't sleep at all last night. Had to lay on chair with ottoman b/c could not lay flat. Went one walk and marching in place. No nausea! Using a scope patch. Husband still has to life me up from sofa and toilet.

Day post op 2: Still a lot of pain and taking meds ATC but trying to taper down the dose. Went on two short walks today. Still gas pain in shoulders but less prominent. Slept on sofa. Slightly more comfortable. Still can't lay flat in bed. Husband still has to lift me from sofa and toilet but getting back my strength.

Day post op 3: Took pain meds. every 8 hours. Pain less prominent. Able to get up on my own from sofa or toilet but need to take time. Feel better today. Walking slower still but decent spirits. Had a panic attack at night though from reading forums on obesity help about the band. Had to go on a car ride with spouse. Reading about permanent damage lap band can do to vagus nerve which causes pain in left shoulder.

Day post op 4: Today was an emotional roller coaster! My incision pain and gas pain is sore but improving. Last dose of pain medicine was in the morning. I have been doing a lot of research on obesity help forums and keep reading negative things which is really hurting my spirits. Cried a lot today. My strength and soreness has improved greatly at incision. I'm walking faster. NEW onset of shoulder pain different than the beginning shoulder pain I experienced. It is like a sharp stabbing knife nerve pain in my left shoulder. It happened after I drank 5 ounces of protein shake for breakfast and then again 5 ounces of protein shake for lunch. (both were taken over a 30 minute time period). The pain lasted about 30-45 minutes then went away. Is this vagal nerve pain? It scares me b/c its only after I eat which makes sense, that is when the pouch feels full and the vagus nerve is rubbed which causes shoulder pain. Called the nurse and told me to drink room temp. liquids instead of cold as I am still swollen. She said this can last for up to 10 days. I cried as I am worried about what I read on the forums. I am young! and I just want to be healthy again. Hopefully this is all in my head.

I feel so blessed in my life in so many ways. God is good. But obesity is SUCH a bitch and a shitty card to be dealt. I HATE it! This disease is the worst.

Here we go again :)

Sep 18, 2013

Been a long time...Experieced regain. I maintained my RNY weight loss for several years. Has surgery March of 2008 and kept all of my weight off (except 10 lbs.) until November 2012. Never made it to my personal goal weight but I meant the satistical weight loss percentage. My lowest was 172.4 My maintenance was 180-184.

I don't know exactly what happened to be 100% honest. I need to forgive myself though b/c I feel angry that this happened. In less than a year I went from 183 to 216.4. Everytime I went on vacation I gained 6 or 7 lbs. Usually when I would return home, the weight would come off from diet and exercise alone and just by following "the rules." It wasn't happening! I felt at a total loss. I felt hungry all the time. I felt satisfied with my meals for about 2 hours or so at the longest and then BAM, hunger, like I never even ate anything.

Had an EGD done and it was found my pouch was relatively small. "borderline dilated" but nothing significant. However, my stoma had stretched to 18 mm. Weight loss is best at 10 mm or smaller.

Through several months of research I decided to do what Carnie Wilson did... The BOB or band over bypass on 9/13/13. It's scary as I never thought I would be in a place to have a second WLS but here I am. I started at 216.4 and 4 days post op I am approximately 207.4 lbs. This is also after being on a 2 week liquid diet.

I'm still scared as the band seems so controversial but it was the best decision I could handle at this time. DS has the best outcomes but much more serious, esp. for a revision from Roux-en-Y. If I could do it all over again...I would 100% have done the DS. BUT...this is what I have to work with and its what I am doing. I am experiencing gas pain and left shoulder pain. I am terrified of the shoulder pain right now and praying its just gas pain. There are a small group of banders that have left shoulder pain referred from the vagus nerve...Which is different that Gas pain. And i just cant live with nerve pain everyday.

Praying for healing and more a good chance at life and health again.

Month 11

Jan 28, 2009

It's been a long time! the past 6 weeks have been really hard. I've been stuck on this plateau. I was losing and gaining the same 4 lbs.!!! Frustrating. I think I finally broke through it this week though. It's the lowest weight I have been so far! :) I am 76.4 lbs. down and I am currently at 178.6 lbs! :) It feels good to be out of the 180's. I feel like I was there forever. So, hopefully this plateau is broken and I can continue on my journey.

It takes a lot more work to lose the weight now since I have lost such a significant amount. I've been working out and watching what I eat more closely. I notice I can eat a lot more too now. Not a large amount of food, but a lot more since my initial surgery. I've been trying to make healthy choices without being Extreme...I know when I do anything extreme (extreme exercise, extremely cutting down calories) it is not realistic and I won't be able to maintain that the rest of my life. So, I am trying to focus on realistic expectations of myself and have realistic goals. I still want to lose about 25 more lbs. at least...if more, that's even better! But, I would definitely like to be in the 150's if possible :)!

Hope everyone is doing well. Will update again in a while :)!

8 months post-op

Nov 05, 2008

Hey :)...8 months post-op...Currently  down 68.4 lbs. :)...I am currently 186.6 lbs.!

The last few weeks have been slow for wt. loss. I work nites (7p-730a) and I'm trying to find out how to incorporate exericise into my lifestyle...It seems so unnatural to work out at midnight on my days off (I usually go to bed around 2 a.m. or 3 a.m. on my days off).

Also, eating is kind of weird, too...If I eat normally (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner...) And then I work at night...I eat at 3 a.m. ---So, its like 4 meals instead of 3...But then I sleep all day and skip lunch...so, I guess it evens out...On my days off work, I wake up in the middle of the night often and stay up from 4 am -10 am...

Very weird patterns...So, the challenge is to get into some type of routine!
Sleeping, exercise, and eating routine.

Everything is still going well though! :) Late!

4.5 months...Another Plateau!

Jul 29, 2008

I am at week 18 (4.5 months post-op). I have lost 51.4 lbs.!

I am thrilled to have lost such a substantial amount of weight. I feel that I have lost all the wt. that made me feel self conscious.

I still don't feel healthy or fit, but I am making strides toward that goal!

I have been battling my second plateau now for about three weeks. First I lost .9 lbs., then .8, and now .2! So, I guess I need to kick it up another notch. I don't mind losing less wt. for a week or two, but now its the third week and I am tired of all the hard work and such little wt. loss!

I am currently 203.6 lbs. I would love, LOVE, if next week I could break the plateau and get below 200! But...if I don't I want to at least lose 2 lbs. So, that's my goal as of now.

So the game plan is...Cutting down on the little carbs I do eat, more protein, more fluids. More workouts. I'll update next week!

Currently, I have lost a total of 24.25 inches! The first month I lost 9, the second, I lost 8, and the last I lost 7.25 inches. So, I'm pretty psyched about that! I measure myself again on Aug. 4th.

12 weeks post-op

Jun 18, 2008

12 weeks post-op and down 44.6 lbs. Yay. I am 210.4 lbs., currently. I wear a size 14-16. Everything is going well.

I hit a plateau for about two weeks. I increased my protein intake, fluid intake, and changed my exercise routine around and lost 4.8 lbs. this last week :)!

Doing well!

2 months post-op

May 19, 2008

2 months post-op and I am down 36 lbs. :). My starting weight was 255 and I am currently 219. It's nice to get in the teens! The last time I was in the teens was two years ago!

I was concerned I wasn't losing fast enough (since I average 2-3 lbs./week) and it seems some people lose their wt. so much more quickly. However, my surgeon said she was surprised I have lost so much wt. in 2 months b/c I am not "big" in terms of WLS. She said my complexion and skin look great and she said when she looks at me, it seems I never even had WLS. :)

Anyway, I am doing well. I lost 3.4 lbs. this week. I don't know how many sizes I have gone down. Probably about 2. It depends on what I wear though. I went from a 36" waist jeans to a 32" (that's two sizes) and my graduation dress is a size 14. (I think I was a size 18 around surgery time).

6 weeks post-op

May 06, 2008

Down 30.8 lbs. in 6 weeks!

I never measured myself before surgery, but I started measuring myself two weeks out of surgery. In one month, I have lost 9 inches.

14 days out measurements (4/04/08)
Waist: 46.5"
Hips: 51"
Bust: 46.5"
Thigh: 28"
Arm: 18.5"
Calf: 17.5"

5/4/'08 measurements
Waist: 44.5 "
Hips: 49"
Bust: 43.5"
Rt. thigh: 27"
Lt. thigh: 28"
Lt. Calf: 17.5"
Rt. Calf: 17.5"
Rt. arm: 17.5"
Lt. arm: 17.5"

Everything is going okay. Really busy with school stuff for graduation. I still find a lot of foods that don't agree with me. One day it will go down fine, the next it won't. But, over all, I am doing well!
