266 and counting....

Jun 10, 2010

Well, I have almost made it to the Onederland club! I am down 94 pounds and feeling great! After several months of not losing anything I think I'm back on the right track. At least I hope I am... We haven't been working out for the last month but I'm thinking we will start that again soon too. We spent a couple of weeks "up north" and when we came home I caught a summer bug. I am still hacking and coughing but the fever is gone and I'm feeling much better. Hubby has headed back up north too get some work done up there so I will be alone for the next few days. A good time to stick to the protein drinks... well, that's all the news for today. Hugs to all from Michigan....

Major stall....

Mar 16, 2010

Well, I am sorry to say that I haven't lost much weight lately. I'm hoping things change soon because its very depressing to have gone through so much and not to lose any weight for several weeks.
On the up side the weather here in Michigan has been beautiful the last few days. Sunny and mild which is unusual for March. I'm sure our snow isn't over for the year but this nice spell of warmth is great for the soul. Well that's all for today. Maybe I'll feel more like writing if I ever lose any more weight.
Hugs to all from Michigan......

 On a lighter note:

Q:  Doctor,  I've heard that  cardiovascular exercise can prolong life.  Is this true?
A: Your heart only  good for so many beats, and that it...don't waste on exercise.   Everything wear out eventually.  Speeding up heart  not make you live longer; it like saying you extend life of  car by driving faster.  Want to live longer?  Take  nap.

Q:  Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp  logistical efficiency.  What does cow eat?   Hay and  corn.   And what are these?    Vegetables.  So steak is nothing more than  efficient mechanism of delivering  vegetables to your system.  Need grain?  Eat  chicken.  Beef also good source of field grass (green  leafy vegetable).  And pork chop can give you 100% of  recommended daily allowance of vegetable product. Ice Cream  even better - everything Cow eats in one package!

Q:  Should I reduce my alcohol intake?

A:   No, not at all.  Wine made from fruit.  Brandy  is distilled wine, that mean they take water out of fruity bit  so you get even more of goodness that way.  Beer also  made of grain. All people who don't drink unhappy - happy  people live longer so drink more. Bottom up!

Q:  How  can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you  have body and you have fat, your ratio one to one.  If  you have two bodies, your ratio two to one, etc.

Q:  What  are some of  the advantages of participating  in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of  single one, sorry. More people killed running on street than  lying on couch. My philosophy is: No  pain...good!
Q:   Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A:   YOU NOT LISTENING!  Food are fried these day in  vegetable oil.  In fact, they permeated by it.  How  could getting more vegetable be bad for you?!?

Q
:   Will   sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft  around the middle?
A:  Definitely not!  When you exercise muscle, it get bigger.   You should only be doing sit-up if you want bigger  stomach.

Q:   What about food additives?

A: You want to  complain about something for free? If it added - must be  better - like fuel additive!
Q:   Is chocolate bad for me?
A:  Are you  crazy?!?  HEL-LO-O!!  Cocoa bean!  Another  vegetable!  It best feel-good food around!

Q:   Is swimming good for your figure?

A:  If  swimming good for your figure, explain whale to me..

Q:   Is getting in shape important for my lifestyle?
A:  Hey!   'Round' a shape!

Well, I hope this has  cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and  diets.

The Holidays are over! Yay....

Jan 03, 2010

Well, I made it through the holidays and I still lost a few pounds. I don't think that has ever happened to me before! I have always put on a few pounds from all the Christmas cookies and goodies. When I jumped on the scale this morning I weighed in at 281! That means I have lost a total of 79#'s... And I have to say I feel great!  What a relief it is to get up in the morning and not have a horrible back pain.

We did have a very nice Christmas. We are so blessed to have all our kids healthy and happy. My favorite present was a photo. Yes a photo. All the kids met at Sears and had a family photo taken for me. I have been asking for one for years but they just couldn't all get together at the same time for the sitting. Well, they finally did it and I loved it! It's already hanging in my foyer in a nice wood frame. They are all great kids and I couldn't be more proud of them.

Well, it sure has been cold here lately. It was below zero last night and with the wind chill today it didn't get much better. But I guess it is January and to be expected.  Well, I don't have any other news so I guess that's it for now.  Hugs to all and Happy New Year!

Under 300 Hundred!

Nov 04, 2009

Yipee!!!  I have dropped to below three hundred pounds! Unbelievable! I now weigh in at 298 and that means I have lost a total of sixty one pounds in a little over three months. I love that I'm very seldom hungry anymore. What a blessing this surgery has been.
I sure wouldn't recommend anyone doing this, but I have to say that it's been a lifesaver for me. I can't tell you how much better I feel with just the sixty pound loss.
I have so much more energy, and even my joints are starting to hurt less when I move around.
My kids are constantly telling me how proud they are of me, and that alone is enough incentive to keep me going strong...
I am getting a little tired of the protein drinks, but I know they are a real necessity. I have found I'm losing a little more hair lately and that has me worried. Since I have started eating more solid food I have been slacking on the Optisource. I hope my labs come back OK when I go for the next appointment on November 17th. We'll see.
Anyway, I just had to brag that I have started to get out the old blue jeans that haven't fit me in years... And they are getting baggy on me already!  Yay for me!!!  I love it!

All for now from Grand Blanc.  Hugs....

October 23 and Fifty pounds lighter....

Oct 23, 2009

Well, I have had a virus for the last week or so and I have been miserable! Coughing my head off and sleeping all the time. I finally had to give up and went to the family Dr. He checked me for strep throat and gave me a Flu test. I checked out negative for both so I guess I just have a regular run of the mill virus. All I know is that I'll be glad when it's gone! It's been really hard to stay hydrated and eating is on the back burner for a while. I have been craving warm liquids because of the sore throat, so coffee and tea has been my staple for the last few days... I know it's not good for me but I can't help it. Once I start feeling better I will concentrate on getting back on track.
As far as my weight loss is concerned, I feel great! I have found myself moving more and walking longer distances! Yay... I did pick up some generic Benefiber (cheaper) and that has helped me immensely! (Thanks for the tip Grammie.)
I now weigh 309, and I will be thrilled to get below the three hundred mark! I haven't been under three hundred in pounds in over ten years.
My daughter is disappointed that I'm not losing weight at a faster rate, but I have to say as long as I'm losing I am satisfied. It has taken me twenty years to get this out of shape so it will take a while to get it off.
Well, I guess that's about it for today. I will check back in when I break the three hundred pound barrier!
Hugs to all from Michigan...

44 pounds and counting....

Sep 26, 2009

Well, I seem to have slowed down on my weight loss. I have had a water retention problem for the last couple of years so I'm hoping that has something to do with my plateau. But I have to admit that I'm feeling really good! My family members are all telling me that they can see the weight loss in my face, and all my clothes are getting a little baggy in the bottom so it must working... Yay. No regrets.

One thing I'm having to deal with since the surgery is constipation. I will go for three or four days and then I take a dose or two of "MOM" to get things moving again. Then I'm OK for two days - until the cycle starts all over again. I have tried prune juice, prunes (yuck), and upping the fiber intake, but nothing is changing this cycle. If anyone has a few tips I would appreciate it...

I did have my first (and I hope last) bout of the dreaded "Dumping Syndrome" last week.  I was eating left over turkey with a couple of bites of mashed potato's when it hit! OMG, I hope I never have to go through that again. The sweats, the shakes, the nausea, and horrible cramping aren't something to toy with. Thank heavens they warned us about this or I would have thought I was giving up the farm! It only lasted about a half an hour and it left as quickly as it started. When I talked to the nutritionist at Hurley Bariatric Center, she told me they are doing studies on "leftovers" because so many people tend to have problems with "Dumping" after eating them. So needless to say I will be very leery about the leftovers I eat from now on...

Well, I guess that's all the news for now... I'm doing very well, feeling great, and ready to start exercising in the Hurley Fitness Center pool. Hopefully we can get down there Monday to find out about a membership... Hugs to all from Grand Blanc.

It's been 4 weeks...

Sep 02, 2009

Yup, it's been four weeks since I had my surgery. It sure wasn't fun but I got through it. I had a little scare with the Morphine right after surgery, but once they took me off of it and put me on something else my breathing improved and I started perking up. I really thought I was in trouble when my Saturation level went down into the seventies, but my daughter recognized that the more morphine I was given - the worse my breathing was. She imediately told the PA and they changed out my pain meds.... (It's always a plus to have a critical care nurse for a daughter!)
Anyway, I also had a drop in my hemoglobin and extensive bruising in the lower abdomen but now after a month I'm feeling really good and the bruising is slowly fading away.
I am very glad to say that I haven't been hungry at all! Yay for that aspect!!! And I haven't been sick to my stomach either, but I have gotten the sweats once or twice when I knew I had over eaten a little too much.
So, all in all I am now on track and feeling better every day.
I now weigh 326# for a total loss of 33 pounds.  And the swelling has already disappeared in my bad leg! Another benefit of the surgery.
Well, that's all for now, and big hugs from Grand Blanc.

Two days until surgery...

Aug 02, 2009

Well, I have two more days until I check into the hospital. Funny that I haven't been too nervous the last few days. I guess I have resigned myself to fact that whatever happens I am going to make the best of it. I know I can tolerate the liquid diet after the last two weeks... I was very afraid the protein would be something I would have to gag down, but it's actually not too bad. Now if I can just train myself to sip slower I'll have it made! Lol.
I have lost about fourteen pounds in the last two weeks from the pre-surgery diet. I was hoping for more but I guess I can't get greedy. It will come off eventually.
My ankles aren't as swollen as they have been for the last six months either, so already I'm seeing a slight improvement in my health. I am very optimistic about my future. More so than I have been for a long time. After the paralysis of my leg six years ago I was so depressed, and now I finally have a positive goal to reach. I know it isn't going to be easy, (but with my husband's support, along with my family) - I just know I can do this.
  Well that's all for today.
359#  minus the fourteen = 345# and counting.
