My name is Becky. I moved to Birmingham, AL in October 2007 for work from Flint, MI. I thought moving to a warmer climate would help me loss weight. I was wrong besides the stress of a new job and new place, where I did not know anyone. Then I quit smoking and I gained 30 pounds since moving.
In high school I was always between 160 to 180 lbs and a size 12 to 14. After graduating from high school, I started gaining weight than I would lose weight. I continued yo-yo diets ever since. Now I'm up to 270 pounds and can not get the weight off. So I have decide to have gastric bypass surgery.
My mom had gastric bypass surgery about 6 years ago. I decided to go to two different seminars about the lapband. After finding out if my insurance approves the lapband, the gastric bypass will also be approved. After researching both surgeries, I decide to go for the gastric bypass.
My mom has stated she wished she could have had the surgery before she was 50 years old. The surgery has change her life. She was 317 pounds before surgery and is now 150 to 160 (size 10-12).
I'm currently following the same road as mom. She continued to gain weight over the years and got diabetes. I'm currently don't have any health problems but like one doctor I talk to stated "why should you wait for health problems before having the gastric bypass, the surgery safer if you are in better health."
I'm getting all my documentation together now. I'm hoping to schedule surgery for April 2009. I'm still trying to decide on a doctor.

I had my appointment with Dr. Schmitt. The appointment when very quick but I had asked all my question at seminar. (Which I suggest you ask most of your questions at seminar because the appointment is all about setting up the surgery.) I feel Dr. Schmitt cares a lot about his stats of successful surgeries and he specializies in bartric surgeries. My insurance does not requirements is to have a BMI over 40 and your doctor thinks it is a good idea. Dr. Schmitt required me to get surgery clearances from my family doctor and a heart doctor because of shortness of breath and family history.
My surgery is schedule for 03/23/2009. My parents are coming to stay with me, to help out. I' m excited!!
