10 days out!!!

Nov 30, 2013

Hi every one.. I am now 10 days out from surgery. My surgery was 11/20/13. I started my pre-op diet on the 6th and at 270 lbs. Surgery day I weighed in at 265 lbs, so a 5 lbs loss. at my 1 week appointment I was 259 lbs so a total loss of 11 lbs. Have not weighed my self and will be waiting to see my Dr on Dec 12 to find out.

Surgery experience:

The night b4 I did not get any sleep as my sisters had just gotten into town and I left my packing till the last min. Left my home at 3 am. Needed to be at the hospital at 6 and it was a 3 hr drive. (Thank you sis for driving me) The check in process was quick and easy. Every one was kind and easy going. Soon I  was called to a room where I would stay until surgery. There I changed into the gown and booties. An IV was started and I met with the surgical nurse, anesthesiologist, assisting surgeon and my surgeon. At this point I expected the nerves to kick in, but they never did. I said my see you later to my sis and  off  I went to surgery.

Waking in recovery:

I had a very hard time with the anesthesia and it was very hard for me to come out of it. I even scratched my eye in the process. I also needed the assistance of a catheter to be able to empty my bladder. After all that drama (lol) I was whisked up to my room where i finally got to see my sister. I was in some pain, nothing out of the ordinary. I was given a pain pump and  soon after asked to get up and try to use the rest room on my own. ( i was not able to) Hrs latter they had to re catheterize me and it was left on for 2 days.

Hospital stay:

Day one I got lots of rest. Day 2 I had that nasty barium test thank God it all went well and did not have to do it aging. At this point I was given jello, water and watered down juice. (it took me for ever at first then it got easier). Walking and sipping to help with the terrible gas. (passed very lil while at the hospital ) I went home the end of day 4.

1st week home :

Gas and the weakness in the stomach muscles was the worse. Every day it got better and I got stronger. Water was easy for me to take in but the shakes were way to sweet so I did my best to get it all in. Pain meds helped a lot. But my favorite item at home was the walker my friend brought me. It helped me brace my self to sit or stand and it gave me a lil independence in the rest room as I had a hard time due to my toilet being so low. The pain on the lower left side was constant and very uncomfortable. Still is today just very mild.  On Wednesday i had my 1 week follow up and Dr said everything looked good and that my incisions looked great. (will see him aging in 6 weeks 2014 ) Gave me the go ahead for puree stage. I did very well with it and have had no problems. i weigh everything and puree with my chopper take my time eating and don't drink with my meals so far so good .

Today:

I am in high spirits, I feel a bit more like myself. ( energy is still sluggish which is to be expected). I have now been with out any assistance for 2 1/2 days and managing well on my own. I drove for the 1st time since surgery to go get my meds yesterday. The drive was not bad but getting in and out of my low vehicle was very difficult.  I am blessed that to this point everything has been txt book. I am super thankful to my sisters that helped me in so many ways the week they were here.

Sorry so long just wanted to cover it all in one topic.. Thanks to all of you the wished me the best and prayed for me. It can only get better from here.... xoxoxoxoxox
