I go to see the Dr. Schirmer today to set a surgery date.  I'm excited and nervous.  More later.

I had my surgery consult at UVa Thursday.  Because of the insurance I'm required to do a 3 month doctor supervised diet.  So it looks like surgery sometime around Nov. or Dec.

Sorry for the length of time between posts.  Life is incredibly busy.  The stress test came and went without much trouble.  My heart is in good shape.  Good enough to cancel the second day of testing.  This is one more step towards WLS.  Now I feel like I'm hanging out in space waiting to hear something from the doctors at UVa.  I'm calling Dr. Marsh in the morning and make sure he has contacted Dr. Schirmer.

Things are going way fast, faster than I imagined.  Yesterday I recieved my pulse oximeter for my sleep apnea study.  I'm going to do it this morning when I get home from work.  I am required to be asleep for 4 hours.  That should be a struggle as I hardly sleep more than 3 hours at a time lately.
My doctor's office called also and left a message saying I had two stress tests scheduled for next week.  March 26 and 27 will be the test dates.  I have a feeling these are going to be hard on me.  I have very little stamina and I'm afraid I'll have a heart attack, but I know it is necessary towards the goal.  Included in the message was a possible surgery date with Dr. Schirmer on July 24, 2008.  I'm not sure about it and I'm not holding my breath until I can confirm it with Dr. Marsh.

What a busy weekend!  On Friday, I had my visit with Dr. Marsh.  Jackie and I both went in with him for my exam.  I explained to him what has been going on with me these past few weeks and my general health for the last few months.  Based on my blood work, things look pretty good.  My B12 levels were a little low and my TGL were low.  Then we discussed lap-band surgery.  He said that we could do two things; take the medicinal route with metabilism boosters and other diet medications or we could go with the more drastic...surgery.  I looked him in the eye and said I was ready for drastic. After that discussion, he performed an EKG, urinalysis and A1C.  The EKG showed something odd, but he said he wasn't worried about it.  He recommended that I have a stress test done anyway.  The urinalysis and A1C came back normal.  I was worried that I may be diabetic, so that was a relief!
After the doctors visit Jackie and I had a good long talk about what we had to look forward to, she is so reassuring and I could not ask for a better partner.  I am a lucky man to have such a beautiful and caring woman.
Later Friday afternoon, I went to a Civil War reenactment in Newport News, Virginia.  I love reenacting and one reason for the surgery is to be able to do this hobby with gusto.  It turns out that one of the men I serve on staff with had gastric bypass a number of years ago and offered to be my support throughout the whole time.  He said he was going to travel down from Gettysburg for my surgery.  We sat and talked about the benefits and complications that will come with surgery.  And he assured me that the benefits outweight anything bad.
On Monday, I had to call the insurance company to see if they will cover lap-band surgery.  They will! I just have to jump through all the hoops but I am ready for it.  I called Dr. Marsh's office and told them the news and they started setting up my stress test and sleep study.  It seems like I've got the ball rolling.  My parents and sister are firmly supporting me, that helps quite a bit.  A good weekend.

I meet with Dr. Marsh this morning to start my journey towards WLS.  I'm nervous because I have had a few spells over the past weeks of passing out.  I believe it is due to high blood pressure.  My blood work came back normal two weeks ago.  My cholestrol was only 179!
