APPROVED!!!!

May 15, 2007

I received the call this morning (05/15).
I can't believe this!
I am SO thrilled!  I feel like I've been holding my breath this entire time and now I can let it out!
Even though my process thus far has been shorter and less stressful than most people on this site, it was still a little nerve racking for me just because I had no idea what to expect.
Now the hard part (and work) begins!
I am faithful and know that God will see me through this safely.
I am in a constant state of reflection and prayer since this process began.

I am really, really ready!
Now I have to begin stocking my apartment with all the supplies I'll need and working out regularly to start a routine.

More to come later (hopefully less)!

Good Grief!!!!

May 07, 2007

It's been a while but so much has happened.   My paperwork was sent to the insurance specialist at the hospital on 04/24/07.  I thought by now, I'd be waiting for approval from UHC.  Of course in all of my anxiousness I called UHC on Thursday.  They said they haven't received anything. So I called Jen at Dr. Kini's office. I didn't receive a call back on Friday so I called back today and she was in office hours with Dr. Kini.  I spoke to Nadia and she gave me the phone number for the insurance person at Mt. Sinai. I spoke to her and she said, 'your surgery isn't until June 20th, I haven't submitted that one. I have people having surgery this month that I have to call for'. Can you believe that!
I told her I'd like to know if I am approved so that I can plan my life. I have been on hold just waiting on this process.
If I'm going to need to appeal or reschedule I'd like to know sooner than later.  This whole process is so stressful... I can't wait until next month....Is she insane!?
Anyway, at least Weight Watchers is going OK....3lbs lost in 3 weeks. I wish it was moving faster but at least I'm not gaining.
I also attended my 1st support group meeting last week. It was great! I met a few really nice people and received some really good advice.
Now that I have made up my mind about this surgery, I am no longer scared.  I know that God will see me through safely and I am really excited to get through the actual surgery now.
I also went out and got a 2nd job. I have to pay the taxman! I owe about $1300 so I have to hustle.
But I am faithful it will all work out.
I just need to stay focused.

More soon. Hopefully an approval announcement.

Moving Right Along!

Apr 24, 2007

Today was a really good day.  I received a call from Jen at Dr. Kini's office.  They have received my PCP letter. She said it was really good. They are ready to submit to the insurance and will do so by the end of the month.

We have set a tentative date of June 20th. So I have to go back for the 2nd consult on June 6th. At that time they will put me on the liquid diet and give any additional pre/post op instructions.  Of course I have to have lost the 20lbs by then.  So I need to step up me exercise game along with the WW which going well.

It was a lot today but fairly good day.
I will keep posting as I get more.
Next step...APPROVAL!
Here's praying for the best!

Still Trying

Apr 21, 2007

On Wednesday, I went to my PCP. She completed her letter and told me she would fax it to Dr. Kini's office.
I've haven't heard from them yet but I will call on Monday after lunch if they don't call me before lunch.
On Friday, I signed up at Weight Watchers. This is one I've tried before but some of my co-workers are doing it so I thought I'd go in too. This way maybe we can all keep each other motivated.
Today, I made up a list of my favorite and usual foods and their respective point values. I will tape the list to my refrigerator.  I think it will be easier to follow the plan if I don't always have to look up food values before I decide what to eat.  We'll see :)
Also, on Friday while my co-workers and I were leaving the WW center, I was approached by a guy on the street. He was interested in taking me to lunch but I declined.  My co-workers took his number and told him I would call him. He also told them that he would be at the same location next Friday when we go back to wait for me. They are all excited but I am a littel ambivelent. I am still very afraid of disappointment when it comes to the dating scene. I also want to keep working on me some more before I deal with someone else and their baggage. But I guess we will see if this goes anywhere.  I doubt it will......
But at least my wls journey continues and things are looking good. I am just praying for the best.

Whew!

Apr 06, 2007

It's been a while since my last post but I've been trying to get this show on the road. I have only been going to my current PCP for about 4 months. the PCP letter has to go back 5 years so I've been trying to get my records from my former PCP for the last month. Turns out he lost his license and shut down his practice with no notice. So it's been a nightmare. My mother had to go there in person with an addressed envelope to get the records sent.
Finally, last night my PCP called and said she received the records and she now feels comfortable writing the letter based on the info that she now has. Everything else is all done and submitted. Now, once her letter is in we can submit to the insurance and schedule a tentative date. So that is all going well. Unfortunatly, I still haven't lost the 20lbs. my surgeon wants me to lose before surgery. In fact I have gained 10 lbs. since Feb. when I met with him. Come Monday it's on though. Have been doing good with diet this week but we will have to step up the exercise. Just have to get motivated. But I think I am motivated as I get closer to my new 'beginning.' In the interim, I am praying for motivation and approval!

Almost There!!

Mar 19, 2007

Today (3/19/07) I took the last step before approval! I had my endoscopy(?) and I saw the nutritionist. I can't believe I had to pay this so called 'nutritionist' to tell me absolutly nothing new. She just gave me a booklet and basically read everything in it to me. What a mess!! But it had to be done, so I did it.  Now my surgeon just needs the clearance from the endoscopy and the letter from my PCP to submit all papers to the insurance. I will call my PCP tomorrow to see if she has her letter and then just wait. The surgeon should be able to submit by the end of March.  This is really moving quickly.  I only began researching (seriously) this surgery in December.  If I get it all done (Lord willing) by May or June that will just blow my mind!!!

It's My Birthday!!!

Mar 14, 2007

Literally!
Today is my Birthday!!! Had a good day...Still hoping to get a new B-Day soon!

It's On...

Mar 12, 2007

So I finally met my surgeon a few weeks ago (2/26/07). Dr. Kini and his staff are very, very professional and nice.   He wants me to lose 20lbs. before the surgery. All my paper work should be sumitted to the insurance by the end of March. If approved within 30 days as expected, I should be able to schedule a date sometime in May. So I don' have much time to lose this 20lbs.  I've been slow to go but I went into the gym Sat., Sun. and today. I feel really good about myself for going. I am tired though.  This is going to be tough (I am the heaviest I've ever been) but it will be worth. I want to do all I can to make this new lifestyle successful...
