We didn’t start with a diet.
Jan 24, 2026
There were no strict rules, no calorie counting, no sudden promises to “do better.” Instead, I began with the simplest place I knew — our kitchen.
I cooked the same meals, just a little differently. Less oil. Fewer fried foods. Smaller portions. I didn’t announce any changes. I didn’t say, “This is healthier.” I just placed the food on the table and ate the same thing with him.
I learned quickly that support works best when it feels normal.
In the evenings, we started walking. At first, only ten or fifteen minutes. Sometimes he was tired and we turned back early. I never pushed. Those walks weren’t exercise — they were just time together.
There was no scale in the beginning. No numbers. Only questions like:
“Do you feel less tired today?”
“Did you sleep better last night?”
Looking back, I realize this stage wasn’t about change yet.
It was about creating safety — a space where trying felt possible.
