*** 4 month update *** What a journey!! ***

Mar 04, 2008

WHHOOO HOO!! Time flies!   Only 2 more days til my 4 month's since surgery.  I FEEL LIKE A DIFFERENT WOMAN!  I went by Dr. office today to weigh and I lost 6 lbs last week!  That is the most I have lost in 1 week since the beginning. I am using the elipitical (sp?)machine (not a lot yet)and I guess it is helping.

A few weeks ago we had a guest speaker at support group and he talked about having NSV - Non- Scale Victories moments He told us the scale is stupid! All it tells you is a number...not  how much is water retention, muscle, or fat.  Although I have had weight loss surgery....and weighing in and losing weight is the plan/goal...THERE is a bigger picture.   People who are sucessful with surgery do not focus on the scale but NSV moments.   That has stuck with me for 3 weeks now.  Now is the time to break bad habits and make changes in my eating.  The surgery is doing most of the work now...but in a few months that will change.  I need to focus on the NSV-  like not wearing a seat belt extender on a plane, having someone not recognize me because they have not seen me for a few months..etc.....  I love the wow and NSV moments. I am going to look for some more in my day to day life.  This has been a stressful time in my life. I am going thru a some very stressful times and I am used to emotional eating.  Everyone was so worried -could I handle all these changes at once?    I have lost a total of 89 lbs since July and 55 since surgery.  I thank God everyday for giving me an other  opportunity to live a healthier life. Many thanks to all my OH Support. Thanks for lettitng me share! Til next time!~~~~~Angela

**** 3 month Check up ****

Feb 07, 2008

Well..............had my 3 month check up today with Dr. Bour. I just love that man.  I have lost 45 pounds since surgery-79 total! YEAH!!! I feel so much better.  His Goal for me is the 160's. I would like to get to the 140's to say I lost 200 lbs...but not sure if that is realistic.   Here are some photos...the weight is coming off!!! I thank God everyday for blessings He brings my way. God is Good--ALL THE TIME!  Thanks OH family for all your support.
I tried to copy and paste photos...but it did not work so I have upload them over on the side!

**Priceless moments ** Mastercard moments

Well....I finally got all the bills for my surgery and who knew the price to pay would be so costly. Originally I was told between $30,000-$34,000 would be the cost.  So here goes..........

EGD test prior to Surgery                 $679.00
Hillcrest cost for EGD                       $1791.30
Anesthesia for Surgery                      $2497.00

Dr. Bour surgeon fees for surgery        $7199.00
Radiolgist fee for dye test day after surgery $83.00
TOTAL COST OF RNY-GBS     $62,327.50
I feel so much better so really the price to pay is ...
priceless.....Just like mastercard.
I can fly in a plane without seatbelt extenders
I can wear regular panty hose now
Clothes are fitting better.
Confidence level is growing.

I know there will be more priceless moments to come

Ugh...so hard to believe what a difference 75 lbs makes. I am getting stronger every day.  Each day gets better and better.  It's all a process.  I am getting my energy back and my smile! :)
I will post "After" pictures soon- need to get film developed.
Thanks for all your suport, prayers and kind words.

The weight is coming off!!

Jan 15, 2008

Well...I had a slow start, but I weighed tonight at support group and I have lost 8 more lbs!! Go me!!  Total of 70 lbs!!  I really need to excercise more. It has been so cold to walk and I have meetings 2 nights a week.  Excuses....excuses....
Tonight at support group we talked about "Stress eating" and I still have some issues with stress eating.  They did surgery on my stomach...NOT MY HEAD!  It was a good group meeting.  I really appreciate all the support I have received from OH, my surgery sisters and the people at support group.  We are all at different stages and we can all learn from each other.
My surgery sister Deidre looks great!  She was there in black leather pants and was looking mighty fine!! Then Deidre and Joel cooked me dinner. It was yummy. A turkey mignon wrapped in bacon ( you can buy @ Sam's club ).....IT WAS SO DELICIOUS!! Thanks guys!
I feel better every day!  NO regrets...this is all a process.  My life will never be the same.   I need to use my "tool" wisely.  Thanks for listening! til next time

Transition to solid food

Dec 27, 2007

This journey is all about learning new things...........I met with the Dietitian yesterday and I am transitioning to the next phase of solid food.  I had lost 9 more pounds!! WHOOHOO!!!  TOTAL weight loss = 62 pounds! 28 since surgery.   I feel like I am doing well...with the exception of keeping food down.  I may have a stricture so we are going to wait and see if it gets better or worse in the next week.  I mostly throw up at night.  Breakfast has come up only twice. ( I eat 1 scrambled egg every morning!) I am still going to drink my pure protein shakes for awhile. (Banana is my favorite!! yum)
I am trying to excercise more. Walking is about all I can do right now.  Once I pay off all medical bills..I may join curves again. I did enjoy that ....but the finances are a little tight.  I also have a pool at my house so  I know that in the spring/summer time  I will be swimming every day. I am like a fish.( I am a Pisces!!) .I love swimming! I have a friend taking pictures of me....so maybe on my 2 month out (Jan 6) I will be able to post some new pictures.
Til next time amercia........

I had 2 wow moments this weekend

Dec 17, 2007

ok......for only being 5 weeks out I was not expecting to have some early WOW moments.  This weekend I flew to Ohio to see my baby sister graduate from Kent State.  I just flew to Texas in July..so it had not been that long since I flew....but I did not have to wear an SEAT BELT extender!! Yipee!! and then on my sister graduation day..I wore real panty hose and not trouser socks!   Another wow moment!  I was so excited!  Little things make a difference.  I had a hard time keeping food down...hoping that I get better with that.  I chew and I chew and I eat slow...but I keep "throwing" up a little bit..I hope this passes soon.
Christmas is only a week away!!!  I missed my WLS sisters. I will have to call them tonight and see how they did over the weekend!
Til next time............

1 month post-op

Dec 09, 2007

I saw my Doctor on Friday and I was really concerned..because I do not feel like I am losing as fast or as much as I should be losing.  I lost alot the first week..and then it's slowed down.  When I went on Friday to my appt. I had lost 2 more pounds.  So Total since Surgery=18 lbs....from my highest weight=52 lbs!! Dr. Bour was very encouraging and told me that everyone loses at different rates and to keep walking and doing what I was supposed to and it would come off.   I thought he might "rake me over the coals" but he was very supportive and great about it.  I wish he would have given me his weight goal for me--My goal is to lose 200 lbs!! I am 25% there.   I go back to dietitian to start on Solid foods tomorrow....Hopefully I will have lost some more since Friday.  I am going out of town this weekend (flying) and I hope it all goes well.  I am going to see my little -sister graduate from Kent University and I will be staying with  my Dad and step-mom. I hope I can show them that I am doing well and the surgery was the right choice for me.  Till next time! :) lol

Dec 04, 2007

Someone recently gave me a plaque that reads " Faith is taking a step...when you do not see the staircase"  That is where I am today. Life throws you some curves  and you have to know how to take them.

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back.

Don't be afraid that your life will end, Be afraid that it will never begin.
