1 week ago- I was in Surgery!!

Nov 13, 2007

WOW---This week has really flown by.  I have to give "shout outs" to my surgery buddies, Cathy and Deidre!  THEY HAVE BEEN TERRIFIC!!  We are all so much alike and they have been such a support to me and an encouragement.  Thanks gals! :0

I came through the surgery great.  Dr. Bour said I did have some scar tissue from a previous gall bladder surgery but basically that was it.  I had a REALLY hard time waking up from the anethesia.  I was in recovery for almost 5 hours!  TIP: The very best thing you can do when you are in the hospital and when you get home is WALK....and then walk again....and then keep walking!
So far -I am doing good- better than I expected.  The protein is so very N-A-S-T-Y!! but I knew it was going to be tough.  I take the Prostat and then a protein drink.  For lunch I have chicken broth then at night have some more Protstat.  The Prostat is thick and yucky..but for a small amount it has lots of protein.  So far I have gotten all my protein in every day.   Go me!!   I go to the office on Thursday to weigh, meet the dietitian and see Dr. Bour.  It will be soooooooooo exciting to see how much weight I have lost.  Can hardly wait to see my surgery buddies too.  So far no regrets!!  The drain is a littel bother but nothing compared to the end result.  Everyone hates the drain....so I was prepared.  I thank God that all went well and God is giving me the power to overcome any temptation.  I will update as often as I can!

12 hours to go!

Nov 05, 2007

In less than 12 hours I will be in surgery.  I weighed in again today and I lost another 5.2 lbs!!  yeah!!  I was excited!   A total of 33 lbs lost since July.  Tomorrow is the big day.  I am on the schedule for 11 am.  I know it will be rough in the beginning, but every day I will get stronger and better.  Good luck to my surgery buddies!! I will see you in the hallways walking!  :)
Until I get home from the hospital........

Surgery is just around the corner!!

Nov 01, 2007

Well...I lost 5 lbs this week on Optifast. (total a little over 10 lbs)  I have lost 28 total since I began the journey.  Today Dr. Bour's office called and I have to weigh in on Monday ....because I am 4 lbs shy of my goal and he may cancel my surgery! I am so frustrated!!  Everyone is different at losing weight.  I think the optifast makes you constipated...so for the next 4 days..I will be walking and drinking!  I have got to lose more.weight ....it is just basic science...not eating much...lose weight .......right?

One of my biggest concerns regarding surgery is my hair loss. My hair is past my waist.  I have been taking prenatal vitimins and biotin for several months.  Does anyone post-op have any tips on what may have worked for you to make hair loss minimal?  I will take any suggestions.  I know it may happen around 3 months post-op......what has worked for anyone?
Thanks! :)

Please pray that I can lose these last 4-5 lbs by Monday.  I will be wearing the lighest clothes that I have!!!! lol  I may even be naked!! just kidding..that would not be pleasant sight.  Til...Monday................
sigh..ugh!!

1 week down!!

Oct 16, 2007

I am one weeek into the Optifast.  I did good. I lost 6.5 lbs.  I met my goal. I miss "chewing" but found out I can eat celery and pickles which are "free" foods.  There are 3 of us having surgery on November 6th and we are in the same support group.  Great ladies!!  Only 3 more weeks to go........yeah! It is going be great!  I'll post more later! :)

One Step at a time

Oct 10, 2007

I had my EGD on Monday and it was no problem what so ever!   I really do not even remember anything about it! :) lol  I slept good that night too.  I started my optifast today - so far -so good.  The chocolate is really good in the morning as "hot chocolate".  The vanilla I have to add some flavor to.  I am determined to make my weight loss goals.  I will take one day at time.  I think it is good that at least we can get used to drinking all these liquids and we can eat just 1 meal a day.  Surgery is November 6th!  Yeah for me!:0

*** I HAVE A DATE !!! ***

Oct 01, 2007

Well...............I have a date ~  November 6th.  Carmen from Dr. Bour's office called me yesterday!! WHoo hoo!!!!!The journey has already begun so....it does not start with just the surgery.  My partner in surgery and friend that I met in support group- Joan - has her surgery  on Oct 23.  We were hoping to have dates closer together, but oh well.   I did mention to Carmen that if anyone cancels or something changes...to let me  know because I was willing to be moved up.  I paid the rest of my fee $$  (ouch$$) -but it will be worth it.
I have my EGD this Monday- Oct 8th and I start optifast the next day. Many thanks to all of my friends who are supporting me through this web site.  Most weekends I spend quite a few hours scanning different profiles to learn and read about the good, bad and the ugly! lol
I know that people come in all shapes and sizes and I respect that 100% .  Each person must decide for themeselves what will work and what does not.  I thought orginally that I would never have the surgery myself.  However, I changed my mind and I am ready to embrace a healthier lifestyle.  It will take discpline to make the correct choices.
I am moving this weekend so I may not have my computer up and running for a few days.

This week has been so busy!!

Aug 02, 2007

Today is Sept 5th-
I got both appointment moved up with Dr. Bour and Dr. Armstrong.
I saw Dr. Armstrong yesterday and she has cleared me for surgery.
I go one week from today for my appointment with Dr. Bour. 9-12-07- I am getting there. One day at time!  I am gettting more excited when I read posts and blogs about other people and all of their weight loss success.  Lots going on this month but trying to stay busy and motivated. I enjoy going to the pre-surgery meetings.  Every week it has been something new and informational. I'll blog more later!

Today is August 3rd- I went Monday-7-30 to a support group meeting. It was standing room only!! The room was packed. Dr. Bour led the group that night and we watched a video of the actual surgery.  It was a little gross...but interesting.
On Wednesday..I met with the Nutritionist...that lasted about 1 1/2 hours. very enlightening too!! :)  It was about the pre-diet and post diet.  It will be change in mind set for sure.  They have started requiring that you lose 8%-10% excess body weight during the month prior to surgery or it will be cancelled.  ( You take your orginal body weight- ideal body weight = excess body weight)  For me I would need to lose about 12-17 lbs.  Which I think is do-able because we are only eating 1 meal a day and 5 protein shakes.  This should cut down on people cheating and not following the rules. They will know ---if you are not loosing the weight.  Still trying to get family doctor -Saindon to fax my 5 year weight checks and information.  Patience is not my strong trait!! I have called twice and given then 1 week each time to get information together.

Until next time! :)

I am NOT crazy!

Jul 23, 2007

I went today for the infamous Psych test.  WOW...What a weird set of questions. Now we just wait to see the results.  I have to start attending my support group meetings.10 meetings with pre-surg and 5 meetings of post-op. Got my appts for :
Nutritionist: August 1st @ 3:00 PM
Dr, Eric Bour: September 26 @ 2:30 pm
Just got changed to September 19th!! One week earlier!!
Dr. Armstrong-Psychologist-@  Oct 8th @ 12 noon

Lacey reassures me that all of these appts will be changed and moved up. But Dr. Bour is in Australia doing some teaching and upon his return they will be able to move up some appts. !!!

Taking one day at time!

Life Quote

Jul 18, 2007

Love your life through all circumstances. Blessings are abundant, (even in the worst of times), if we only will have the attitude that allows us to recognize them. A positive attitude gives us strength, makes life sweeter, easier and more joyful.  I am going to try to love my life.

7-17-07-Next step

Jul 16, 2007

Well..I have my first appt scheduled for Wednesday- July 25th
I will go over all the insurance stuff and have my "Psych" test!
Things are coming along ...one thing at a time.
**God Thing*** Go GOD!!
My mom went with me to the information seminar  and as we talked after it---the biggest hurdle was the enrollment fee ($2000).  I knew I could come up with $500, but the rest was a step of faith.  tHe very next day...my mom got a bank statement from an account she had forgotten about---guess how much was in there...guess.??? $2000!! So being the great mom that she is.....she offered to me to help get the PARTY started!!   How great is that. God is so awesome--always providing for his children!  Just wanted to share and build your faith.
Talk to you later!
