This morning I went to a follow-up with my Dr. My Vitamin D level is so low, the numbers didnt even register!!!!!!!!!!!!! My protein  and iron levels are also still very low- I am at my wits end; I have always had low iron but the low protein and vitamin d bothers me a great deal!

I have nothing new to report; still having stalls and weight fluctuations.

8 months update...

Mar 09, 2008

Well its been 8 long months since my lap rny...for the most part I feel and look great! I can wear 1x tops- I dont ever remember wearing a 1x! I can wear 2x skirts but choose not to because of my legs...my surgeon told me that having surgery on my legs is more dangerous than having gastric bypass! my primary care doctor told me that having surgery on my back to repair damage done during my rny is extremely dangerous and there's no guarantee that the nerves arent permanently damaged! (both of those facts are hard to swallow; I've decided to not have surgery on my legs nor my back; neither are worth the risk!) As usual my protein is low, my iron is low and my vitamin d is low. My weighloss stalls a lot now, but I will not complain- I have lost a tremendous amount of weight already and I am so thankful for that!

6 months update

The last six months have been an emotional roller coaster for me! I have nothing new to report. My weightloss is going great- my eating; not so much! I am still not getting in enough protein and water.  I went to see my PCP on yesterday. The focal point of the visit was my back. The surgeries that I need are extremely risky- my mother does not want me to have any back surgery. A back specialist will not even consider doing back surgery until I lose about 100 more pounds. It hope to lose those 100 pounds by my 1 year anniversary on July 9th. I am nervous about the back sugeries myself. In some instances, I have heard that your back problems can get worse after having the surgeries. I will keep you all posted. I will also post full body pictures soon!

and yet another progress report

I wanted to update all of you on my progress to date. First, I would like to thank you all for your support, encouragement, advice and most importantly, your prayers. I appreciate BAF so very much! I mostly lurk around the board because I have nothing to post about (lol). I had the staples from my bowel obstruction removed on December 10th. I had labs drawn the same day. I went to my surgeon on this past Tuesday; as usual, my iron is low, vitamin d is low and my protein is ok- it could be better. As for my back, it is getting worse!!!!!!! The pain is horrendous! My surgeon finally admitted that what a specialist told me was true; when I had my wls on July 9th, I was on the table for four hours; I was positioned ackward on the table and due to that ackward position and all the poking and prodding, the bones in my lower back misaligned! My back is upper buttocks is still numb, there is still a lot of itching, pins/needles and stabbing pains going on. It was a relief to hear her say the real reason for my back issues- she down played my symptoms to the end and acted as if I were making them up. I'm looking at back surgery next year to have those bones taken off of my nerves. Continue to pray for me because through it all, I am thankful to and praise God that I am here!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU! MAY THE LORD CONTINUOUSLY GUARD, GUIDE, PROTECT AND KEEP YOU AND YOURS AND SHOWER UPON YOU AN ABUNDANCE OF BLESSINGS!

On last Sunday 11/25/2007,  at 3 am, I went to my local ER because I kept throwing up and I had horrible stomach and back pains. They did a cat scan and found that I had a small bowel obstruction. I was immediately taken by ambulance to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston (2 hours away). Once there, I was prepped for emergency surgery- they couldnt find any veins in my arms to draw blood for labs, so they went in through my groin (ouch!). After being prepped for surgery, I went in to surgery for four hours. In recovery, my surgeon told me if I had not gone to the ER when I did, I would be in trouble! Apparently, my small intestines rerouted itself, formed into a big ball (like a ball of yarn) and lodged itself through another part of the intestines that had sutures from my gastric bypass on July 9th, 2007- yes, the sutures had come undone. On top of that, twp hernias were found and repaired. My surgeon started my surgery laparoscopically, but once inside, she saw that the intestines were too twisted and there was so much scar tissue from my gp so she had to do it open. I have an incision from the inside of my navel to under my breastbone. Then I have four laparascopic incisions...all with staplessssssssss! They also had a tube inserted in my nose that went down in to my stomach- it was in from Sunday to Wednesday (it was so painful!) I am depressed because I feel that I have been going through so much since this surgey; I never had any surgery prior to my gp. I elected to have this surgery and I look good and have lost a lot of weight; however, the bones in my lower back are still pressing on my nerves which means I have no feeling in my lower back or upper buttocks. Two weeks prior to the emergency surgery, I was scoped because I couldnt keep any foods or drinks down- they told me I had a small ulcer/ gastritis...I am very emotional right now..I am just feeling down and I’m seeking encouragement from my OH family.. Things have to get better because they cant get any worse. I am so afraid that different complications will continue to arise as I move further along in my journey.
