an awesome quote

"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...
it's about learning how to dance in the rain."

What an amazing quote.  It sure makes you think.  The storms of life will pass you just have to learn how to get through them.( or dance through the rain)

Well i had to go to the dr's office today because unfortunately yesterday while walking i fell on some ice and screwed up my leg.   Anyways at the appointment they checked my bp and it was 118/68  which is a number i have not seen in years.  I am so excited.  The doc wondered how i could be so happy when in pain...lol... I havent had bp meds since the night of my surgery.

My first WOW

Jan 30, 2009

Post Date: 1/30/09 4:04 pm
I had my surgery Jan 5 of this year and since then have lost 25 lbs and have gone down in pant size and bra size which i thought was so cool.  Then today comes my big WOW.  I went to the bank that i have been dealing with for a year now and the teller said to me just before i was leaving, "Dawn you sure have lost some weight, keep up the good work"  I was and still am so excited about the comment.

I have been blah this week cause i am at the infamous 3 week stall but this brightened my week.  Even with the stall i feel great and know there will be more WOW moments ahead.  There is so much inspiration here on OH and I appreciate it.

Surgery is done

Jan 08, 2009

I had my surgery on jan 5 and was home jan 7 in the afternoon.  I am not able to take pain meds at all because i throw them up and well that hurts more than the surgery.
My biggest problem is the pain in my neck and my head that is driving me nuts.  I have never handled headaches well.  They usually debilitate me which i dont need now.  I am glad i had the surgery, i feel good other than the head and neck pains.
I was told not to weigh myself for at least a week because of the fluids they pump you up with.  So i have not stepped on the scale yet.  I know the swelling has gone down because my hands finally look almost normal  I will update more soon.

The start of something new

Dec 26, 2008

I have contemplated for over 4 years now about bariatric surgery.  When i first investigated it i read up on and dwelled on all the bad things that could happen.  I didnt give myself a chance to learn about the surgery or the benefits.  Unfortunately i put it off and continued to gain weight.  I went through weight watchers 4 times and when i hit my plateaus i got frustrated and gave up.  That only added more weight to me.  About 3 years ago i found out i had blood pressure issues as well as insulin resistance and  impaired glucose readings.  The doctors said i didnt need pills for my glucose just watch what i ate.  Well i continued doing things as always and then when my dad passed away almost 2 years ago i made some changes in my eating and coffee habits.  Since then i did a body for life challenge and lost 25 lbs and 18 inches all over.  That felt really good and then I hit another plateau.  I found that i continued to eat pretty well and couldnt lose anymore weight.  Work took me out of town for most of the summer and it was then that my blood pressure was dangerously high.  My doctor has put me on medications but it doesnt seem to be working all that well.  My family doctor who 4 years ago wasnt supportive of bariatric surgery is now more informed and supportive of it.  He talked to me at length about the surgery and made the referral for me.  I have a few friends that have had it done and have joined the support group here in Windsor.  My family is very supportive of my decision.   This is the last Christmas i am going to spend feeling uncomfortable and fat.  I look forward to my surgery on Jan 5, 2009 and know that this year is going to be the best  one yet.
Ill keep udating as i go through the process.
