Wasting Away!!!

Mar 21, 2009

Wow! I haven't been on this site for like 9 months! A lot has happened during that time.  In August I noticed my stomach bulging around my surgery site. Had a lot of pain and nausea too.  Turns out I had a huge hernia from my ribs/sternum to my belly button, at the site of my bypass incision. Had it operated on in September but it failed a couple months later.  I had to have it re-operated on in December. They did a double mesh to cover it and prevent it from busting out again. I had such bad pain and nausea that I lost 26lbs in two months! Too much too fast! I am all better now but I continue to lose weight.  I am concerned.  I have reached my goal of 200lbs weight loss and have lost 10 more lbs.  I am getting too skinny.  How do I stop this? I started drinking my protein shakes again and I started taking digestive enzymes with every meal or snack.  The enzymes seem to really help my diarrhea so hopefully I am absorbing more nutrients.  I think it is time to go back to my bariatric surgeon...I don't want to waste away

I will let you all know how it goes.

My One Year Anniversary!!!

Jul 19, 2008

I can't believe it has been just one year and I have lost 154 lbs so far (and am still losing, albeit slower)!!
I just got back from a big family reunion and my family couldn't believe it was me.  It felt great to be comfortable in shorts and tanks and I noticed my confidence was so high that I was a social butterfly.  I had the best time.
Next week I see the doctor for my year post-op.  My life has certainly changed for the better.  I am working again after 2 years off, I have no hypertension, no sleep apnea, no border-line diabetes and minimal back pain.  Will probably need skin surgery around my belly, legs & hips...saving the $$$$ for that.
Check out the split images of my 1 yr anniversary pix.

Working & losing weight again

May 20, 2008

Been working for 1 1/2 months now on graveyard shift and I love it!!  I love that I am a productive member of society but most importantly, I love what I do!  I work in the Donor Testing department of Puget Sound Blood Center on the Serology Team.  I test the units of blood that people donate for the blood type, Syphilis and CMV Virus.  Other teams test for HIV, Hepatitis A & B, West Nile etc.  Its challenging & fast-paced (the busiest time is graveyard shift).  And it seems working has gotten me off my two-month plateau!!  I have lost 15lbs in the last month!!!!  Bringing my weight loss to 140lbs.  On a downer note, I am really noticing the sagging skin.  I think I look worse in shorts now than I did fat.  Especially around my knees.  Add that to my skin surgery list.  I think my GI is improving though.  I thought I would suffer from chronic diarrhea forever but lately I have had normal BM's.

Never thought I would cheer for normal BMs.  Thats all for now.  I will upload a recent pix soon.

I got my dream job!!!!!

Mar 27, 2008

I got the job!!!!!!!!!  I had my second interview last week and it went really well.  They called me last night to offer me the position of Technologist I in the Donor Testing Lab at Puget Sound Blood Center.  It is excellent pay & benefits and I get to get off Social Security Disability and Medicare!!!!!!!!!!!  I used to work at PSBC but had to leave because of a back injury.  Well, I rehabbed like crazy and had the Gastric Bypass and am well enough to go back to work!!!!!!!  I start April 7th and am soooo excited I can hardly wait.

Plateaued again :(

Mar 13, 2008

Very plateaued again.  I have a good appetite but food seems to be exiting too fast.  I wonder if my pouch has stretched???  I do seem to be able to eat more but I think one of the culprits is the fact that I have been drinking with my meals..  I know thats a no-no but I get so thirsty when I eat...not before or after, but during.  I have been really working hard on not doing that.
I went jeans shopping and was ecstatic when I fit into 36/32 jeans!!!!!!!  I haven't been in this size since college (that was a looooong time ago) and, damn, if they don't look good on me (if I may say so)!!
I feel so good now that I am applying for positions to get back to work.  I have been off work for 1 1/2 years due to a back injury and my morbid obesity, but both are resolving.  I just had an excellent interview today and felt so self-confident.  They were thrilled with me, sayed I was a strong candidate and immediately scheduled a second interview for next week with the big-wig!!  Wish me luck!!   Roberta

My Century Mark!

Jan 02, 2008

I haven't been online lately but I had to write and cheer my making the century mark (Yeah Me!!!).  All the attention I am getting is intoxicating (or is that from the Meyers Rum & OJ).  I even have the confidence to get up and sing karaoke!!!  My family is thrilled, friends are so supportive and my doctor is elated.  My high blood pressure is gone, as is my sleep apnea and stress urinary incontinence. My chronic back pain is minute now, where before it was constant and debilitating.
I still have 93 lbs to go but I am thrilled with the progress so far.

Still alive

Oct 04, 2007

Just a short note to say I am still here.  I have been very depressed, what with my girlfriend dumping me and all.  Spending way too much time at the bar.  But it does get me out of the house and socializing.  That's all for now.

Went Fishing Yesterday!

Sep 08, 2007

I have been on a plateau for about 3 weeks now...294!!  Frustrating but yesterday when I went to get my gear ready for fishing (must always bring rain gear  when you live near Seattle), I was sooo surprised to see I fit in my rain gear!!  Last time was like a year and a half ago.  Plus, my jeans belt is sinched in eight notches from where I usually wear it.  And, when I went out the other night, I put on one of my shirts and it was so big on me it looked like a moo moo.  Had to pull a shirt out of my "way too tight clothing" bag and it looked damn good, even a little loose.
So, whats up with that?  Could I be losing so many inches without losing poundage?
Just want the scale to move but feeling good about the inches.
TTFN.

OK, I am plateaued again!

Sep 03, 2007

And my partner of two years left me last week.  She said she was tired of dealing with all the changes and in the same breathe said she was tired of waiting for me to change.  I guess she meant getting healthy.  What the hell, I am healing as fast as I can!!!!!!!!!  I have heard some overweight partners of weight loss surgery people can't deal with the other person's weight loss but I don't know if this is necessarily the case...I just don't really understand her explanation.  In between crying my eyes out, I have been very social...meeting friends for drinks, checking out the scene and even went to a Fergie concert by myself. Yeah Fergie Ferg!!!!!
Back on a plateau. For two weeks now I have been hovering around 294lbs.  Have had no appetite since Melissa left and am finding it difficult to do shakes, vits or even my regular meds.
Not much more to say...swaying between depression and meeting new people.
