IVs are no fun.

Mar 02, 2008

Well last week Friday I had an upper GI scope performed by doctor.  He needed to get a good look of my esophogas, tummy, and upper intestine.  The longest part of the procedure was getting prepped for it.  It began with them poking my right hand for the IV...and nope...my veins are too small and hard to see in the hand.  So then I was poked in my left hand...but the needle again went through the vein and now I have a nice bruise on that hand.  So then they numbed my left wrist and the IV was inserted there.  All was forgotten once I got to the procedure room and the anethelogist began that magic stuff...I was alseep in no time.  The next thing I remember was waking up with my mom next to me in the recovery area.

Because of the difficulty with the IV and me doctor decided that I am going to have a catheter put into my neck when I have surgery.  Should make it easier for blood to be drawn on their part and easier on my part (less poking and prodding).

Only 57 days left before the big day!  That's less then 2 months!  I know it seems like a long time but I'm sure time is just going to fly right by.

FINALLY!!!

Feb 21, 2008

Well...after months of worrying and waiting I have an approval and a scheduled date!  I can't stop saying that I am so proud of myself for making this decision.

I had my follow up with doctor on Wednesday (2/20/08).  I have been working so hard at trying to lose weight.  Last time I saw him before the holidays I actually had gained 3 lbs.  Well...I was down 8.4 lbs on Wednesday.  I have 12 lbs left to go...but slimfast in the morning, slimfast in the afternoon, and then a dinner.  No eating after 7pm...I think it's working...

I have to go to the hospital on Friday (2/29/08) and have an upper GI done.  Doctor said I will be asleep and he will scope me down to my stomach.  I'm a bit nervous.  I have never had any type of procedure like that...let alone surgery.  But...Mom is going with me...things will be ok...as long as I'm drugged up!  LOL...

Well...I have been a lurker for quite some time.  Like everyone else here I am seeking surgery.  My doctor, Dr, Dibenedetto (aka Dr. D) informed me that I have to loose minimum of 20 lbs prior to surgery.  This will help improve overhealth, reduce risks...yadda yadda yadda.  I gained some over the holidays but I think I'm on track now.  I'm trying the slim-fast method here...one in the morning, one for lunch.  Mid morning I'm having a banana and in the afternoon some carrots and celery.  My weakness is when I get home from work...my eyes and appitite go bonkers.  But one day at a time right...

I was suppose to have a follow up appointment with Dr. D today, but that got postponed.  My insurance hasn't been approved yet.  Feeling a bit bummed here...but I'be been pursuing this since May/June 2007 seriously...a little more waiting can't hurt.  I'm trying to be optimistic...
