As many of you, I too have always struggled with my weight all my life. I remember weighing 180 lbs in the sixth grade. In high school and college I was able to maintain a healthy weight due to exercise and diet.I started becoming "morbidly" obese after the birth of my son five years ago. I gained 50 lbs and weighted 220 lbs. After he was born, I couldn't bounce back to my old size, but continued gaining.

I became depressed and increasingly fatigued. I gained 40 more lbs. My health continued to declined. With the insistance of my family, I finally went to see a doctor and discovered I had hypothyroidism. My doctor stated that  having a baby brought the condition to the surface. So I began taking synthyroid, armour thyroid, and hydrocortisone. I felt better, but the weight never came off. I was not gaining weight, which was great; but I still could not lose weight. I learned about weight loss surgery about a two years ago from my husband's cousin who had it and she looked terrific.  So that began my WLS journey.

I went to Dr. Titus Duncan's seminar in October. He was very knowledgable  and informative. However,  I learned that my insurance did not covered. I left the seminar disappointed, but moved on with my life. I continued praying and thinking, " What will be. Will be."

Let me tell you how good my God is because a few months later,  After telling my mom how badly I wanted the surgery and how my insurance would not cover it, God spoke through her," Check and see if your husband's insurance will cover it. It is worth a try."  I never even thought of it. So I talked with my husband and he checked his insurance. His small company had just been bought out by a large corporation, ironically; they cover gastric bypass surgery. God is good to the faithful.
