Bike Rides

Jul 14, 2011

Well, yesterday and today I rode 20 miles in the early mornings!  It's beautiful watching the sunrise.  However...I was 180, now I'm 185!  I haven't changed anything except my exercise.  I must be building muscle!

July 2011

Jul 11, 2011

Well, we had a great 4th as well as the following weekend too...another fireworks day ;-)  I bought a new bike. It's a cruise.  No speeds, brakes are in the pedels.  Just like the bike I had as a kid. Theres even a luggage rack..lol.  I've bought all kinds of assessories for it.  Head and tail lights, a mirror, odometer, old fashioned horn, cup holder, pepper spray, glove box ;-)  My riding gloves are retro crotcheted primary colors.  Matches my hat ;-)  I'm gonna have to think of a cold weather hat though. Anyway, I'm loving my bike.  I'm glad that I'm using it for exercise too.  Man!...I use lots more muscles than with walking (even tough I do 3 miles in aan hour with a 5 incline!  Great cardio!  But, I really like being outside.  It's been so bloming hot here too.  Heat index 112!  So, I ride early mornings or late evenings.

David and I went to Hilton Head for vacation the week of Fathers Day.  My sister Millicent put us up in a 'cottage' (which was really as a mansion).  We stayed at Berkeley Hall.  It's a private golfing comminutiy.  You can only be in there if you are a member or a guest.  My sister is very generous.  We wouldn't have had such a nice and cheap vaca if it hadn't been for her!

Well...I was basically in a stall for 2 months.  Now the scales has stated to move, but it's really slow.  I'm down to 180 though!  I want to lose another 50 pounds.  I'd like to be 130 pounds.  It's slow going though.  I feel like alot of my 'malabsorption is gone.  Now I have the 'tool' of a small tummy to help me.  I'm exercising and eating right.  Counting my calories too.  Can't wait to be in a solid 170's.  Haven't measured myself, but I'm gonna ;-)  I have also developed a small umbilical hernia.  It's annoying.  My PCP said to watch it.  He didn't think I needed surgery right now.  I did however buy a girdle.  That helps alot and it also holds my little panni in.    I also bought some underwire t-shirt bras.  The girls haven't looked this good in ages!  Glad to be out of the sports bra all the time.  That uniboob was getting old!

My Facebbok group has 477 people now.  It's a busy place.  Lots of support there!  I'm not going to my monthly support group meetings.  It's 45 minutes away and during the workweek.  My FB group definitely makes up for it.

I did by the retro bicycle, as I mentioned earlier, but there is also a motorcycle that I hope to look at.  It's called a Honda Silverwing.  If it fits, I think I'm going to try and finance thru the bank ;-)  That will be fun too.  I'm suprised at how many girls are getting motorcycles and tattoos to make hitting Onderland!  I think I'm one of the older members, at 55 years old.

Well...another OT subject is my work.  I love my job.  I do however work in a small room with one other person.  He's a volunteer, founder of the organization and president of the board.  He's 85 years old.  He's a funny, kind and loving man.  But sometimes he can drive me crazy.  Yesterday was a perfect example.  He brought in his own music to play, sang along, stomped his feet, whistled all day too.  I couldn't concentrate at all!  I'm Administrative Director and the nurse practitioner.  I'm trying hard to get everything ready for our state survey this fall.  The organization is Spencer County Hospice.  Anyway, I'm not sure how I'll go about getting him to quiet down!  First, I think today I'll get to work early and hide the CD player.  Then I'm taking my earphones.  Going to listen to my own music.  I'll still be able to hear the phone.  I hope my plan works.  He does have a daughter who lives locally.  She and her hubby are super nice.  I think I'm going to talk to them too.  Hiping that they can drop him a hint.  I've got to concentrate!

Well...I'm going for a bike ride this morning.  It's already straming hot...heat index today is suppose to be 112!  So...as far as being ON TOPIC...I've lost 110 pounds total and have developed the umbilical hernia.  Gonna keep eating right and exercising.  I'm going to give myself until March 26th, 2012 to lose another 40-50 pounds.  It's really slow going though!

Thanks to anyone who read my blog.  I haven't been here on OH forever!
Adios, Bridget

Memorial Day

May 29, 2011

Well...I've been in a wicked stall for a month.  Bouncing back and forth 2 pounds.  I'm walking every morning and tracking everything that goes in my mouth.  So, I'll keep doing as I am and be patient...waiting for the scales to start moving again.  I did take a picture where I fit into one side, one leg, of a pair of capris!  What a great feeling!  I wish I had measured myself and kept track of it in my journals.  They do measure me at the bariatric center...I'm going to have to get those from them.  I'll be 8 months out soon.  I'm wondering just how much your weight loss slows...???...  I will however always have this tool, a smaller tummy and I'm going to keep on eating right... as I have made these dietary lifestyle changes for the better.  The whole changing of my eating, overall, has been easier than I thought it would be.  I think 'head hunger' is the most challenging.  But I'll brush my teeth or eat a SF jello...popsicle...gotta find what works for ya I guess.  I can't say that I have a cross addiction with anything.  Guess I'm boring ;-)  I do love my walking...it's a great way to meditiate too.  It's funny though...sometimes the hour flys by and others it seems to drag ;-)  I usually listen to rock 'n roll which keeps a good beat.  My husbad has lost 15 pounds!  I'm not much of a cook.  So, he's fending for himself ;-)  My favorite cooks are a chix veggie stir fry and crock pot meat balls.  Since this is Memorial day, I'm going to try my first grilled ribeye.  I don't like chewing so much.  I really don't.  I probably burn up a gazillion calories just with chewing!  So...we'll see how it goes.

So, in summary...I'm close to being 8 months out, walking everyday, watching my calories.  Getting in all my protein and supplements.  I have to say that my journey has been easier than I thought it would be...by God's Grace!

The FB group True Confessions-No judgement is great!  Such a compliment to OH.  We have a little over 450 people now!  So, that keeps me busy too!

Well...until next time ;-)...

Mothers Day

May 09, 2011

Well, I had a great Mothers Day.  Took a bath in a long time and it was great!  Was able to cut my own toenails too ;-)  Cleaned out ALL of my clothes and gave them away.  I'm down to nuts and bolts in the clothes department.  As you may notice from some of my recent headshots that I am wearing a wig.  It's a great piece!  Natural.  My own hair was thinning too much. Besides I'm a big advocate for wigs anyway.

We are all having a blast on my FB site...no judgements-true confessions.  Great people, knowledgable and friendly.  386 people so far ;-)

I'm currently in a stall.  I go thru cycles....but anywho...that's all folfs ;-)

Update

Apr 29, 2011

Everything is going well.  I've lost a total of 90 pounds and would like to lose anot her 40.  Had my 6 month checkup and labs were all good ;-)  I'll have my 7 month surgiversary on May 4th.  I'm eating alot of Wendy's chili ;-)  Everybody raves about Subway...this I've yet to try.  Also...I have hot flashes that are getting to be nuisance.  I'm also waiting for the energy that suppose to come with the weight loss.  I'm not sleeping well and seem tired all the time.  I'm already seeing a sleep Dr. routinely.  No Cpap and no B/P meds!!!  No diabetes!  I'm also into Click ;-)  I also discovered SF Jolly Ranchers.  Man, now if I need something to break the munchies, that will do it.  And, they help right after eating.  It makes that 30 minute wait before drinking go by fast!

Way OT of weight loss:  Kate and William got married yesterday!
I'm also studying tarot cards....  It's been awhile since I've picked them up and I'm excited about it.  Carl Jung, psychologist, identified achetypes for the majot arcana, there is numerology, astrology and meaning connected with the Kabbalah.  I particularly like self-study as it relates to life events and the psychology within the cards.  It is however amazing at how accurate the readings are!  I found some beautiful midevil/renaissance period cards that are Christian based.  Many pictures are Saints and Jesus!  This I like.  It's not like the 80's when you had little selection, now there are thousands of cards to chose from.  But I think the symbolism is very important.  There are many cards that although beautiful, they lack in their symbolism.

My daughter Cassie will be moving into her new home soon!  Hubby has been helping her get the house ready.

I've been journaling the old fashioned way too.  I think I have at least 4 journals going on at once!

Well..that's my life in a nutshell right now.

pain and the ER

Apr 16, 2011

Well...Yesterday morning I began having left upper quad abdominal pain.  I just knew it was my pancreas...it was in that location.  It became more and more severe...enuf that I went to the ER.  They did labs, got a CT and gave me iv pain meds.  My pain did improve.  But, all my tests were normal!  They couldn't explain why I was having such severe pain.

This is totally bizaar, but I had acupuncture last week and for 2 days afterwards I was sore all over my body.  By an off chance, I'm wondering just how powerful this acupuncture really is!  The Dr. Said it was just the energy in my meridians opening up...my chi energy.  Anyway...it may have opened a big ball of wax for me yesterday.

So..I was sent home with a few Percocets...which knock me out!  But, I haven't needed any today...thank God.

My weight loss continues to be steady but slow, averaging 2 pounds a week.  I'm 6 months out now.  I did have my labs done but don't know the results yet.  MAYBE, no news is good news ;-)  I'll see the Dr. next week.

These hot flashes are becoming bothersome too...debating as to start taking hormones again.

My sleep has improved  since the acupuncture though...

progress

Apr 13, 2011

Well...I'm 6 months out now.  Had my labs done...11 vials ;-)  Anxious to see the results which will be later this month.  I'm exercising and doing well with diet, but I'm still what I consider to be a slow but staeady loser.  On average I'm losing 2 pounds a week.  I've been busy with my FB group, which is awesome by the way!

onderland

Mar 03, 2011

Yes, I'm in onderland...198...well...I'm 5 months out and have only lost 40 pounds since surgery on 10-4-10.  So, it's slow but steady!  I'm happy.  I've had numerous NSV's.  I've lost a total of 80 since I began this surgery a year ago.  Not only am I changing physically, but I am changing emotionally too.  I do have a better sense of self-worth, self-esteem...confidance...  And, my sex life has improved...that was just one of my goals ;-)  YAY!  Another goal I have that I haven't tried yet is to get into the bathtub.  I LOVE baths and I can't wait to fit comfortably in there.  I want the water to actually cover my body!!
I'm walking 2.7 miles every morning...sometimes 3.  I need to stretch before and after the walking...I'm bad about that.
Next month I get my 6 month check up with labs!!!!!!!!!  Can't wait to see how things actually are with my labs ;-)

A big issue I've been having is trouble sleeping.  I'm not using my CPAP anymore and still take Nuvigil.  When I take the Nuvigil, I'm awake/alert.  On the weekends when I don't take it I sleep all day.  But, invariably, I cannot sleep well at nite.  I fall asllep on the couch around 10pm, go to bed, I'm up at 2am...then sleep on the couch till 4-5am.  Then I'm up!  The Sleep Doctor put me on an additional medication to help sleep.  I've only taken it three nites.  I thought it was working at first, but it didn't last nite.  So, it all works out...I get up early enough to do everything before work...and get there on time.

My husbands birthday is tomorrow, March 5th.  Mine is the 26th.  They both land on a Saturday, so I want to go out and party!  I love the Springtime!
