Jumping through hoops

Jun 24, 2009

I have been researching this operation for a few months and have attended a Seminar outlining the possible types of surgery and visited a doctor who has agreed that I would be a good candidate for RNY surgery.

I have entered a Programme with NAS Hospital which requires a candidate to complete several tasks over a period of at least 6 months to qualify for this surgery.

So far I have visited my Doctor twice to talk about it.  I have seen the Psychiatrist who has given me the green light and I have seen the Dietician and completed an 8 week Shipshape Course.  I have also attended 3 different support group meetings, which is half the amount required prior to surgery.

The hospital I will be going to is a Military facility and it's surgeons are often called away on duty to other places.  At the moment there is a shortage of surgeons so the earliest that they believe I could be scheduled for surgery will be August.  I am fine with this because it gives me an opportunity to continue to lose weight naturally between now and then.

Since about November last year I have been watching  my weight and eating as few carbs as possible (with the advice from my Fertility Doctor) and have been exercising at the gym, walking and swimming.  I have managed to drop from 318 pounds to 285 pounds in that time and feel great.  Even better, people are beginning to notice and I have found my clothes fitting better and I just feel better in myself.

I am on the road to a new life, and I AM EXCITED!!!
