Starting Over

Apr 24, 2017

i had sleeve surgery almost 6 years ago. I lost down to 187.  I have slowly over the last three years gained back to 214 & then back down to 204.

I had gall bladder surgery (emergency) one week ago.  I came home & had gained 10 lbs. while in hospital.  After one week I'm one pound lower than weight before surgery.

I'm determined to reset my sleeve and my mind.  Stopping the bad habits I had fallen into once again.

Goal: 160 weight.

Goal timeline: 203 now- April 24, 193 - May 24, 185 June 24, 175 July 24, 170 August 24, 165 Sept. 24, 160 Oct. 28 ... my son's wedding date!

May 20th, Psych Eval Done

May 22, 2011

I met with Dr. Valuilus in Shreveport, LA on Friday, May 20th.  The meeting went fine.  She asked lots of questions.  She wants a copy of my lab work and a drug test and then she'll send over my ok for surgery.  Got to get the drug test done Monday and then fax everything to her.   I go for my nutrition meeting on the 25th.  Will tie up all loose ends then and then...I start preop diet.  Surgery on June 3rd.

Well, Dr. Merriman's office contacted me to say that he is going to be out of town during the time my surgery was scheduled.  My surgery has been moved up
I cannot believe it.  I have to change the date of nutrition meeting, change date of EGD, and change date of psych eval.
I don't know what we will do if they are booked up and I can't get in before surgery.  Tried to call today, but offices were closed for Good Friday.
Will try again on Monday!

I'm getting really excited about this.  I can't believe I'm actually going to have the opportunity to do this.  I thought I had my one chance and I thought I blew it.  I never imagined I'd be given a second chance.   Surgery in 2 months minus one day.
Yay ME!!!

Well, I'm trying to start getting everything together again for my upcoming surgery.
I had my band removed the Thursday after Labor Day of 2009 with emergency surgery.

My stomach had become twisted and the blood flow to part of my stomach had been cut off.

I luckily found a doctor  that would see me.  I had been hurting for a whle and had been refused by all doctors I had contacted due to the fact that I had my band placed in Mexico.
I was scheduled to go back to my doctor in Mexico the next weekend, but didn't make it.

As I said, the band was removed.  I was given the option to have another one placed at that time if my stomach looked okay.  I said, "No!".

I stayed in the hospital for 2 days recovering.  I told myself I would not gain the weight back.  I'd just stick to the band rules.  Well, it didn't work that way.

I've gained all of my weight back,  plus some.

I've met with a doctor about the sleeve and I have it scheduled for June 13th.  Now I'm just gathering info and trying to get myself ready to start this again.  Praying it is better than the band.

Nov. 11, 2008 - April 3, 2009

Apr 03, 2009

Well, I went in November to get a fill.

I had a stomach virus the weekend before I was to go.  It caused me to be swollen and I could feel a lot of acid rumbling around the rest of the week.

When I got to the doctor they did flouro on my and found all the acid and the swelling.  The took out 1 cc.  and put me on Nexium for one month.  I immediately felt relief.  I knew it wasn't right, but it is frustrating that the stomach virus caused all of this.

Now I have 1.3 cc. and I have to make it through Thanksgiving and Christmas with an unfill.

I did fine.  I stayed the same all the way through the holidays w/ no problems.

I'm not losing!!!  Think I need a fill.

Scheduled a fill for Feb. 11th.

A friend went with me to Mexicali.  I got a fill.  Now I am back to 2.3 cc.

I felt fine the first week I was back then I got very tight.  I started having reflux ... but I also have terrible sinus / allergy problems right now.  The drainage is awful for my band.  It makes me feel tight all the time.

I have also started working out.  I joined a fitness challenge team.  We will workout from Feb. 10 - April 18th.  The team and individuals receive points each day they work out.  We also receive points if we attend 4 different kinds of classes (mind / body = yoga; weight training; water aerobics; spinning or zumba)  Points are awarded each week if we lose weight or our waist decreases in size (5 points per pound lost and 3 points per inch lost on waist).  There are meetings once a week concerning different topics of interest = 5 points per meeting; and we earn extra points if we participate in 5k races or triathalons scheduled for the challenge.

I have started working out.  I ride my bike or the stationary bike at the gym at least 12 miles 5 times each week.  I have lifted weights a few times, but found that I was so sore afterwards it was hard for me to complete my bike ride.

I have to ride 12.5 miles on the 18th of April to complete my part of the triathalon.  I have decided to concentrate on that right now.  I will change up my exercise after the 18th.

With all the increased exercise, I am still not dropping the weight.  I am have lost about 7 pounds in 7 weeks.  I am very frustrated.  I think I should be losing more.

I have made arrangements for my 2nd fill.  I had 1 cc put in my band at surgery time.  Exactly two months later I returned to Mexico for my 1st real fill.  Dr. Lopez put in 1.3 cc.  Now I have 2.3 cc in my 4cc band.

It has been 4 months and 24 days since surgery.  Almost 5 months out.  I've lost a total of 50 pounds.  I have started being hungry.  I still fill restriction, but have gained about 9 pounds back.  So now I'm going back and for between 40 and 50 pounds lost.  It depends on the day.

I wish I could leave the scales alone.  It is an addiction.  I walk by them and feel like I should step on them.  For years I kept them beside the frig to try to keep me from opening it or getting into the pantry beside them.  Apparently it didn't work.  I guess I should move them.  Old habits are hard to break.

I will get my 2nd fill November 14th.  I don't know if I need one or not.  I think I do.  Then somedays I am still tight and don't think I need one.

Last time I definitely knew.  I will let you know what the doctors say when I get back.  Airfare: $320 w/ reservations made 2 1/2 weeks before date.  My mom and dad are paying for it as an early birthday / Christmas present.  Mom is taking off work to go with me.  I will have to pay $80 for hotel and $80 for flouro.  I will also take a little to tip Ernesto.

I'm still way under the 20,000 it was going to have cost me to have the surgery here in US.

I have not been very good about posting updates.  I will try to do better.
Currently I am4 months out from surgery.  I have lost 47 pounds.
I have a 4cc band.
I had 1 cc  put in at surgery time.
I went back to Mexico and had 1.3 cc put in at my 2 month anniversary under flouro.
I still have good restriction but I can tell it is easing up.
I am currently hooked on Snicker Protein Bars (Low Carb).  This is my standard lunch right now.
I usually have a protein shake on the way to work.
I have been tight until after lunch for the last few months.  This has eased up in the last week or so.

I will begin making plans to return to Mexico for a checkup and possible fill.  It will probably take a month or so in order to get a good price on plane tickets.

Dinner, I just eat what everyone else is having (less the bread). Small bites and chew very well.

I still have trouble getting in enough water.  Need to work  on this.  Still haven't started exercising.  Must start doing this.

Well, I had my first fill on August 5th.  It was exactly two months after surgery.  I had lost 30 pounds and regained 7.

I had my fill under flouro w/ barium swallow.  The first swallow showed no restriction.  The barium went down like a waterfall.  I drank water to clear the path and picture.  We waited a few minutes and then did another medium swallow.  This time Dr. Lopez began to fill.  It was amazing watching the waterfall diminish into a small stream.

Dr. Lopez said, "You have restriction now.  You will begin losing again."

Dr.  Aceves recommends 2 days of clear liquids after fills, then 2 days of full liquids, and then 2 days of mushies.

I went down on Tuesday to have fill.  We spent the night at the hotel and then flew back on Wednesday.

I weighed on Friday and had lost all 7 pounds.  Back to the 30 pound loss!

My weight has started to creep up.  I am scheduled to have a fill on the 5th of August.  That will be exactly two months after surgery.

I am not following a schedule right now at all.  I'm trying to get my classroom together.

My new goal is to start on Friday (not tomorrow...I'm going to visit my grandomother at the hospital)...  posting everything I eat / exercise / etc.

I want to start carefully tracking everything.
