Where do I start?  I have had a problem with my weight my entire life.  I'm like most and have tried all the diets that are out there.  I have lost weight many times only to regain it all back and in most cases even more.  At the beginning of this year I made the decision to make an appointment with my PCP and discuss gastric bypass.  I felt that I was really ready to make a lifestyle change for the better.  She agreed that I needed help and referred me on to Dr. Kearns who is in the nutrition clinic at Valley Medical Center.  In March 2008 I went to my first WLS orientation and met Dr Kearns.  I learned a lot from the class and was ready to take the next step forward.  I was told that I would have to take nutrition classes, have a sleep study, have my metabolic rate tested, go to group therapy for the surgery, exercise, and lose some weight.  I went to the nutrition classes and learned a lot.  I  started exercising and to my surprise I enjoy it...gives me energy and helps me sleep better.  I had my sleep study done and got a CPA machine to help me throughout the night with sleep apnea.....OMG does the CPAP make a world of difference!  I had my metabolic  rate tested and will get the results in a week...just waiting for an appointment with the nutritionist to read them to me.  I've been going to WLS group therapy and that's also helpful.

I met with Dr. Kearns a week ago and he told me that I only had to lose 6-7 more pounds before he would refer me to a psychiatrist for evaluation.  Then I go meet with the surgeon and hopefully all goes well and I will be given a date for surgery.  I had all my blood work done and it all came back looking great.  I'm working out more than ever and being really good about what I eat so that I can take that last bit of weight off that's needed to move forward.  Hopefully I can take off more before surgery.  Keeping my fingers crossed :)

I will keep you updated as things fall into place.  Thank you so much for taking the time to read my page.  An extra thank you goes out to all that have answered my questions.  This site has me so informed and keeps me going!!!  Anyone have comments or suggestions please send me a message.

Have a great day,
