Where should I start?  I'm 40 years old, married, & I have 2 wonderful kids.  Courtney is 11 & Hunter is 5.
I have been overweight my whole life, starting at the age of 4.  Through out childhood, my Mom would put me on one diet after another, starting at the age of 8.  There was always lost weight.  Then she wouldn't force me any longer & the weight would come back plus some.  Hence my yo yo life style that has continued to the present.
I have tried every diet known to man.  My heaviest weight was 276, my lowest weight has been 150, & my goal is & has always been 135.  Having tried every diet, I'm living proof that they all work.  Sadly, I'm also living proof that unless you make a life time commitment to change, the weight comes back.
Why am I here?  I need to get control of my life & be healthy.  I have 2 young kids & need to live as long as possible for not only myself, but for them as well.  I was blessed with horrible family genes.  My Dad died 14 years ago of a heart attack.  Heart disease runs in the family.  My youngest sister died 2 months ago at the age of 36.  She left behind 4 kids, 17, 16, 10, & 5.  She fought breast cancer for 5 years.  My Mom was diagnosed a month after she was.  They fought the first year together.  My Mom is in remission.  My sister never was.  Cancer also runs in my family.  I have a very large extended family.  Probably half of them if not more are diabetic.
You reach 40, spend the last year caring for a very loved sister, & stand beside her bed when she dies...it changes you.  There isn't any time left for failure.  The time is here & now for me to regain control of my life, reach & maintain a healthy weight, & live as long as I can as a healthier & happier person.
Why butterflygirl85?  Why the catterpillar?  Today, I'm the caterpillar.  After my surgery, I will become the beautiful butterfly.  Free of my weight problems & free to enjoy & live my life.
   My journey has begun.
